Thoughts - - Good show. I am terrible with estimating the number of people at any given place, but I would guess there was around 500 people there. The place was pretty filled. THe tournament participants were lined up at a table before the show giving autograpahs. Charlie Hass came out before the show started and said a few words putting over ECWA and the tournament. They then did the usual introductions with London the most over and Spanky second. Video highlights were also showed on the screen which is a fun touch. Simon Diamond was brought out between the first two and last two first round matches to talk about Jeff Peterson who he had trained. They played a video package of Jeff's two biggest Super 8 matches (against Daniels in '99 and Jet Jaguar in 2000). Simon understandably got shaken up. The non-tournmanent stuff was pretty forgetable. The six man and the battle royal had great heat....the ECWA wrestlers are really over with the regulars, but the matches weren't all that great. Daniels actually pulled a watchable match out of the Japanese Pool Boy, doing the storyline of "the underdog with no chance taking it to the champ." The crowd just didn't get into it. Daniels put him over big post match.

All the wrestlers in the tournament looked good. Strong was the least impressive, looking a little off on some points, but def. wasn't bad. Arion looked far better then I had ever seen him. He worked stiff and had a fun little match with London. Def. the best match of the first round and one of the best of the tournament. Sabin/Kazarian had a good match to start off the show that was one of the better matches also. Spanky looked good, but did seem to be a little off. He wasn't as crisp as he has been in the past with some of his moves and his matches, while solid, weren't anything great. Beckett got busted open hardway on his chin during the first match. Repeated bandaging attempts didn't help and he blend from the chin all the night. Beckett was booked as the break out start of the tournament. He showed some nice fire and intensity and looked good in the ring. He was real over by the end of the night and the crowd was split 50/50 between him and London in the finals. Beckett kicked out of the shooting star press and ended up passing out to a neck submission that was a first for London. London put Chance over on the mic afterwards claiming that while he has made his reputaiton on the sixe of his heart and his determination, Chande showed him a whole new level of "heart" tonight.

Overall, good show. All three London matches were in the "good" range. The Sabin/Kazarian match was good and there wasn't a real bad match in the tournament. Just no MOTYC's or anything.

Dammit, people said I was full of it when I said Kendrick wasn't going over. Looks like a solid show. Wish my boy Sabin would have gone over in the first round though.
