Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted April 17, 2003 I'm pulling for the Blues to go as far as possible so I can maybe go to a game. Giguere was THE MAN. Cujo wasn't near A game. I told my dad as they went into OT "I hope Detroit scores quick cause Cujo looks kinda shaky" At least the Lightning are making a series of it.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted April 17, 2003 Well, Dallas still has to get by Edmonton (which I think they will, unfortunately. Edmonton needed to win game 4, and with Dvorak gone they'll have a tougher time), but it's either them or Colorado right now. St. Louis or Vancouver don't match up to either of them. Qualifier: I picked Dallas to beat Edmonton. I am hoping they don't, but I'm being realistic in my Oilers fandom. I don't feel bad about Chimera subbing in for Dvorak. Chimera can skate like hell, likes to throw hits, and has made a habit in his rookie year of coming up with some big goals. Something the Oilers need right now. And as much as I like Comrie, if I was Mac T, I'd consider sitting him for Game 5. The hand is making him useless out there. Throw Rita in and see what happens. Shuffle the lines. Until the cast is off, I don't know how much use a short little offensive centre who isn't great defensively actually is. Re: Anaheim - Detroit. Nobody picked it, nobody could be expected to pick it, but I am not sad it happened. Detroit doesn't really need to rebuild, but with Yzerman and Larionov, Chelios expected to retire (or even if they don't, be well over 40 or have the mileage they might as well be) , I think you have to start thinking they are due for a bit of a decline. They have been trading so many prospects and picks for their 'Win right now' philosophy that the system isn't that deep. Jason Williams might be good for one spot, and they can probably sign yet another UFA for the other, but in the end, that doesn't make them too much younger. Detroit might be sliding down to around the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference next year.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted April 17, 2003 The Ducks were freaking awesome last night. I got home in time to catch the overtime and I must say, I have a new found respect for hockey. I always thought that it was boring but its nothing like Soccer at all. I'm actually more stoked to watch the NHL playoffs than the NBA.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted April 17, 2003 You think the Wings may shop Joseph around in the off-season?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 17, 2003 I think it is going to be an interesting off-season in Detroit. Potentially losing Yzerman, Federov, and McCarty as well as the likely blowing up of a team that got swept bt the freaking Ducks. Do they have a decent backup goalie? If they do I could see them trading Joseph, otherwise who is really available for an upgrade. As another note now that I got a freaking awesome ticket for a game 7 I guarantee that the Flyers-Leafs series ends in 6.

We have the best backup goalie in the business in Legace, though CuJo didn't perform all too badly. The problem was, again, Giguire was just fucking amazing, just like hot goalies normally are. I doubt we'll lose McCarty, but Yzerman is almost certainly gone. Fedorov is a mixed bag; he could go, and he's shown signs he might, but no one can really guess. Detroit has Manny Legace who is a pretty decent goalie- I don't know if I would depend on him to start. If Cloutier ends up blowing it again I really hope the Canucks can upgrade their goaltending. Cloutier just sucks Tickets for Game 6 go on sale on Saturday and I'm going to try and see if I can get a cheap ticket. I kind of gutted my bank account going to Game 3. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 17, 2003 I end up watching the rest of Detroit v. Anaheim and then I studied till four am. I got a whopping three hours sleep! Luckily I have 11 days off so I can stay up and watch hockey.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted April 17, 2003 Cloutier ends up blowing it again I really hope the Canucks can upgrade their goaltending. Cloutier just sucks I actually ythink Cloutier has been pretty good. A lot of the game 1 goals were of the "no-chance" variety, more due to massive defensive lapses than Cloutier just fucking up. Does he deserve some of the blame? Of course. But the anemic offense and the pathetic defense should take it's share of the blame too. And, oddly enough, I think Osgood deserves some props. For game 4 at least.

Cloutier just sucks I think that Legace has the goods to be one of the better ones, but since in Detroit you have to be a proven winner out of the gate, they're unwilling to pull the trigger and promote him to starter. Getting Joseph this year proved that. So I see Legace as being the one shipped out, and thriving somewhere else as a starter.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted April 17, 2003 And honestly, thats whats going to get to Detroit eventually. They built their powerhouse through shrewd drafting and trades. Much of their core they drafted. Lidstrom, Yzerman, Federov, McCarty, Dandenault, Holmstrom. They signed or swung big deals to build on that core. The problem is they do not have that kind of core to build upon again when guys finally start retiring. Right now, there is Datsyuk, Zetterburg and Fischer. Jason Williams may be a good player. They have been drafting alot of role players/grinders because they have the money to sign the stars, but at a certain point, when the Red Wings do not look like an odds on favorite anymore, they will not be an automatic consideration for free agents anymore, and they will have to develop their own core to build upon with their money. They are not going to collapse over night, but their time as a powerhouse is waning. Much of it depends on who decides to quit this season, and what they have to replace them. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 18, 2003 You gotta feel for the people in Detroit. They better hope the Pistons make it too the NBA finals, or you're stuck with the Tigers. Can anyone tell me why Lemaire didn't start Fernandez in Game 4? Roloson struggled in Game 3, and the Wild had rotated goalies all season, except for when Fernandez was out.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Because, for the most part, you never go anywhere in the playoffs if you rotate goalies. You've pretty much got to just choose one and run with him.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I understand your point. It just doesn't seem like a good decision to mess with something that's worked all year.
