Giguere wins the Conn Smythe... I think he definitely deserved it, considering it's an award for the entire playoffs.

Giguere wins the Conn Smythe Trophy.

I thought it was pretty cold hearted for the Devils fans to boo him

Definitely, the guy gave it his all for the entire playoffs, and he just couldn't bring the Ducks all the way... but shit, he looked incredible throughout the playoffs.

Did you see Niedermayer's mother looking as bummed as Giguere?

its a travesty to see a team like Anaheim to lose like this.

Though I think this is going to be NJ last cup for a while. I can see 2 if not 3 Devils leaving this year.

I'd like to give the New Jersey fans in attendance a big "fuck you." If they don't have enough respect to cheer for the Mighty Ducks' effort then I don't have any respect for them. And I highly doubt New Jersey repeats anytime soon.

The Devils played a masterful game. A well deserved win and a well deserved Cup.

The New Jersey fans booing Giguere for winning the Conn Smythe........I understand why they did it.......a case for Brodeur or Friesen or Niedermayer...whoever could be made...... but it's so damn disrespectful I actually felt just a twinge of disgust.

Giguere wins the Conn Smythe Trophy.

It was. But what made up for it was the class shown by the Devils team. They were the first to applaud him.

I think that the image of Jean-Sebastian Giguere crying will be one of the moments that I remember about the 2003 playoffs. It's not like the Lakers players crying. It was obvious that winning this game was the only thing he wanted, and he was crushed by it not happening. Giguere crying, in a coldhearted way, shows exactly what the NHL playoffs are about. He knows that he may never make it back to the Cup Finals, and he was a win away from being on the other side of the emotion spectrum.

I congratulate the New Jersey Devils. Not only for their win, but for their appreciation for the effort put forth by the Ducks and Giguere. A team with an ignorant fanbase could have easily shown as much class as their fans and ignored a 26 year old kid playing his heart out, and getting the MVP trophy for it. Instead, they chose to applaud.

Congrats Devils.

Damn.

Congrats to the New Jersey fan, and to J-S Giguere. He earned every bit of that Conn Smythe.

The March to Stanley 2004 begins RIGHT NOW for Ottawa.

Cold Hearted?

I mean, Scott has had three cups with the Devils which are a rich financially team, and a star player.

Rob has been bounced around, and you don't know where he'll end up, or if he'll ever get to the finals, let alone win one.

Obviously it would be nice to see both brothers win the stanley cup final.

I called it!

When? It doesn't count unless you call it before the playoffs start.

Congrats Devils.

I completely agree with you maxpower.

I wanted Jersey to win really badly but even I felt so badly for Gigeure and Steve Thomas.

Seeing Kariya and Stevens hug reminded me of why I love hockey.

Congratulations to the New Jersey Devils- they certainly deserved it.

And congrats to Giguere- He caused me to fail two of my finals but he gave me goosebumps in so many of those games.

Congrats to the Devils, and the Ducks sure did give a great effort. Anyone notice how Giguere shaved so fast?

I feel for Oates too. Poor guy. One of the best offensive/faceoff guy to ever play and he's won 3 Finals games total.

I love watching teams celebrate a championship. Just something about seeing grown men so exited over winning games that kids play.

The ducks should of did the knuckle puck and got Goldberg. ;)

I like how after they are done hitting each other for 3 periods at the end they shake hands.

Man Jiggy needed a hug. The amount of emotion they put into these games is amazing. It maybe a hockey game to regular people, but to them it's their life. They worked so hard to get to that point and not to win it all or win it all must be a big emotional drain. I rarely watch hockey, but after watching the playoffs now I understand why people love it.

Also Man cranking up the sound on the tv and listening to the bodies crashes to the boards is awesome.

:headbang:

You could have posted live updates to the board during the getting jiggy part.

For anyone that's been bitching about Jiggy getting the Conn Smythe trophy (of which I've heard A LOT of in real life, and happily haven't seen much here) I had only one response:

Without Giguere in net, do the Ducks get within 60 minutes of winning it all? And then name one Devil that had the same impact on his team's winning it all. Even Brodeur shutouts tended to be 2-0, 3-0 type of wins, so if he lets in a goal in each of those games the team would still have won. And with the team defense in front of him, he didn't even face as many quality scoring chances of Giguere.

And am I the only one who pictured Giguere just dumping that trophy on a table when he got off the ice, rather than really even caring about it at that point?

He did. I read somewhere (ESPN, SI.com or NHL.com) that he had a league official carrying it for him. If you watch the press conference on NHL.com, he doesn't carry it into or out of the press room. He REALLY wanted the Cup.

He no question deserved the Smythe. I wanted to punch Melrose again, when he had the gem, "Well, there's still controversy about whether Marty really deserved the Conn Smythe." Just shut the fuck up, you greased up rat. Can't you just give them a SMALL amount of credit for what they accomplished?!

He's probably in his hotel jacking off to the Devils team picture with the Cup right now.

Melrose is an absolute moron. Which makes him fit right in on ABC hockey coverage.

There was absolutely no controversy about the Conn Smythe whatsoever.

I thought it was pretty funny when Bettman got smacked in the face with the Conn Smythe trophy, you're a lucky man Giguere.

I agree that Melrose is an asshole, I saw a clip of him in the '93 finals against the Canadiens and he had one of the most HORRIBLE looking mullets I've ever seen -_- I nearly puked at the site of that!

btw, what is the deal with Boomer on ABC? was he trying to pop a rating or something? Oh well, I'll stick with HNIC thank you very much :)

(needs to find something else to do on Saturday nights for the next 3 months)

I think that Chris Berman was put there for the specific reason to piss me off. I hate him, and after Melrose's bullshit, I'm not too warm on him either. I don't know why ESPN holds Melrose in such high regard. Oh, he coached Gretzky? How fucking hard was that?

"OK, now Wayne, when you get out there, skate fast and put the puck into their net."

"Really?! THANKS COACH!"

Ferraro has been doing better, but Melrose is holding him down. They should bring someone in that's new this next year. I can't survive with Melrose on ESPN/ABC and fucking Denis Potvin on FSN.
