Guest redbaron51 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 hey barron... remember Ken Dryden??? he post this kind of stats when Montreal won the cup in 71, and he didn't have huge ass equipment either, and really the greatest defence too.
Guest treble charged Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Max, do you think the Sens could beat the Ducks?
Guest redbaron51 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 the only team can beat the ducks, is that team from Iceland.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Max, do you think the Sens could beat the Ducks? It would have certainly been a bit more of an interesting series. Ducks have Neidermeyer, Rucchin, Carney, and a few other cover players. Ottawa has a balanced attack, spread out over 4 lines, with defensemen jumping into the play. Ducks have Kariya, and some GREAT other offensive weapons. Ottawa has some underrated defensemen (underrated by their skating ability), who can cover, and quickly break out. Jersey, on the other hand, has an attack that is usually a player on each line that scores consistantly at times. They are GREAT on coverage, and GREAT on defense. They have SUPERB goaltending. However, Anaheim has met up with two of the top teams in the league this year. They have gone against some of the top forwards in the league in recent memory, and shut them down. Plus, they have gone against some fantastic defensemen, and beaten them. I think Ottawa would have made it more interesting. Ottawa can get people in front of the net, and has the speed on defense to cover for a breakaway.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 No. Not right now. Anaheim is on FIRE. I don't think anyone can beat them.
Guest redbaron51 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 but if Giggy goes down, so does the team. but that Iceland team is the only one that could beat them...triple deek.
Guest Karnage Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 The Ducks can defeat Iceland if they use the FLYING V~!
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 but if Giggy goes down, so does the team. but that Iceland team is the only one that could beat them...triple deek. If Giggy goes down, obviously the team goes down, but he's only been down in 2 games this postseason, and when he's on, he's ON. Ask Minnesota. The triple deke didn't work. Maybe if they put in the chick goalie with the fast glove...
Guest The Czech Republic Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Wouldn't the Flying V be an awful play in real life? That was my first thought when I watched the Mighty Ducks movies.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Iceland showed how to counter it in the championship game. Clobber at will.
Guest redbaron51 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 also Anaheim needs the Basher Brothers
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 And Ken Wu, the little figure skating kid.
Guest Karnage Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Wouldn't the Flying V be an awful play in real life? That was my first thought when I watched the Mighty Ducks movies. It worked in Slap Shot 2...which is a horrible movie by the way.

Guest The Czech Republic Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 And Ken Wu, the little figure skating kid. How about the Mexican that can't stop, or the cowboy that got a penalty for illegal use of a lasso?
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 They need to stay away from Gunner Stahl, that's for darn sure.
Guest CanadianChris Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Isn't it funny how Barron only comes out of the woodwork when the series is over? Can't weasel out of bandwagon-jumping on a technicality. Anyway, a word or two (hundred) on these Senators. There's a story about the Edmonton Oilers in the early 80s that goes like this...after the Islanders beat the Oilers in the final to win their fourth straight Cup, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier went to the Isles' dressing room to congratulate them. When they looked inside, they saw the Islanders absolutely devastated by the playoffs they'd just gone through. It was then that the Oilers realized exactly what it meant to be a championship team. And they went on to win four of the next five Cups. The point is...the best team doesn't always win a given series. Some of the time, a veteran, experienced team will beat a young, talented team. Ottawa was the better team in this series (slightly), just as Edmonton was a better team than New York back in 1983. But they lost. It happens. In losing, though, they found out exactly what it took to win a series like this, and that knowledge will take them a LONG way in the years to come. Let's face it...the Senators are going to be the best team in this league for years to come. The ownership situation has been resolved, and the new owner has the means to keep this team together. They have one of the finest coaches in the league in Jacques Martin, and a proven winner in GM John Muckler. Their nucleus is undoubtedly the best in the league. Alfredsson is 31. Lalime is 29. Redden and Chara are 26. Phillips is 25. Hossa is 24. Havlat is 22. Spezza is NINETEEN. Looking around the league, all of the better teams are getting really long in the tooth...Colorado, Detroit, Dallas and New Jersey are all going to be losing a lot of production from some key players over the coming two or three years. Ottawa is poised to take over atop the league for the rest of this decade. And is it any coincidence this all happened when they traded away Alexei Yashin? That the team learned how to win in the playoffs the moment he left town? His attitude -- someone who played only for a paycheque, without passion or desire -- infected the entire team, and it showed. The Senators may have been labelled chokers since they started to win, and deservedly so, but Yashin was the embodiment of that label. Yashin won a total of eight playoff games in four playoffs with Ottawa (he sat out the 1999/2000 season, where the Sens lost 4-2 to Toronto). Since leaving, he has won four playoff games in two playoffs with New York, while the Senators have won EIGHTEEN GAMES in those same two playoffs, and three series. When the player who is supposedly your leader plays without heart or desire, the entire team is doomed to fail. Since his departure, the Senators look to be on the cusp of a glorious run through the NHL for years to come.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Well said, Chris. Think they're going to go President's trophy again next year?
Guest The Czech Republic Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 They need to stay away from Gunner Stahl, that's for darn sure. Not to mention that Icelandic chick. Oh, it may seem likea fun date, taking the foreign girl out to have ice cream, but team morale will go right down the shitter!
Urban Warfare Posted May 24, 2003 Author Report Posted May 24, 2003 Any Predictions For The Finals? Mine: Ducks in 6
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Looks like me and Bob are the only two picking the Devils.
Guest bob_barron Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 For the 800th time- There are no Devils fans thus there is no bandwagon thus there is no bandwagon to jump on.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 For the 800th time- There are no Devils fans thus there is no bandwagon thus there is no bandwagon to jump on. Bob, what do you call the people at Devils games, wearing queer little Devil costumes, screaming LET GO DEVILS at the top of their lungs, wearing replica/authentic jerseys of their favorite players? Do you call them Rangers fans?!

Guest CanadianChris Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 For the 800th time- There are no Devils fans thus there is no bandwagon thus there is no bandwagon to jump on. I could say HHH's title reign is good for WWE 800 times too. It doesn't make me any more right the more I say it. I say Ducks in 6.
Guest CanadianChris Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Well said, Chris. Think they're going to go President's trophy again next year? I couldn't really tell until I see how the off-season moves shake down. I certainly don't think it'll be an overriding goal of theirs.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Honestly, it would be hilarious if the Devils had NO fanbase whatsoever. Or if the people of the state of New Jersey decided even they hated their team so much, that they disown them and take the state's name out of the team's name.
Guest Choken One Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I feel for Hockey Fans... Anaheim Vs New Jersey? HOW THE FUCK IS THAT GONNA SELL? Ratings: 0.000001 Anyways: Ducks in 5 to piss on Hockey's chances of US Popularity...
