Ducks in 5 to piss on Hockey's chances of US Popularity...

or Devils in 5 to piss on hockey's chances of US popularity and then take a shit on it for good measure.

The choice is yours.

The only way this series has a chance to enhance US popularity is if Gary Bettman declares that the rosters of both teams be replaced by their respective conference's All-Star team.

The makers of Sominex must be throwing a hissy fit...this series will completely eliminate the need for their product.

Looks like the best Stanley Cup Final ever.

I can't think of a finals series that I've had less interest in. The ONLY thing that this series has going for it is to see if Gigeure can become a bonafide superstar during what will pretty much be his coming out party. I can't see any way (win or lose) that he doesn't get the Conn Smythe, I think Lagenbrunner is about the only other player who could realisticaly challenge him for it, and he'd have to get something like a hat trick every game.

I can't predict this series, either. I can see Anaheim sweeping Jersey, but I can see the Devils kicking the Ducks ass, too.

Madden is a better chance getting the Conn Smythe over Lagenbrunner.

and I could think of a worse one...

meh, Detroit and Washington was pretty bad.

You gotta love Anaheim because they had a hell of a path to travel, and they traveled down that path quite well. They bumped off two out of the three biggest powers in the league, then took out a hugely underrated team. Meanwhile, Jersey trapped their way past Boston and Tampa Bay, no real task, and salvaged the Senators series by a hair. So you at least have a cool story behind the Western team and build interest as to whether or not they can defeat the Triple H of the NHL, whereas all the East can offer is "Yeah, it's the fucking Devils again. We know."

I couldn't give 2 shits about Anaheim. Sure, it's kind of a feel good story, but besides the Gigeure stuff and kind of rooting for Steve Thomas, there's nothing there to make me cheer for them. Also, I don't want to see the name 'Mighty Ducks' etched on the Stanley Cup, but that's another story.

As for the Devils, meh, it's the Devils. I don't like them, but no one really does.

The Colorado/Florida finals was kind of cool in that it was upsetting to see the Nords win it one year too late for Quebec fans and the exciting story of an exciting 3rd year team from Florida (plus the whole rat thing added interest).

Washington/Detroit was nothing special, but I kind of like Detroit, and it had the cool backstory of the Wings going after their 2nd straight Cup, as well as the whole Konstantinov angle added.

This series just looks to be boring from the start. I'll probably watch it and hope that I'm wrong, but I don't expect that I will be.

It'll be boring in the sense that there isn't really a back story. I don't think Anaheim is a boring team, based on the way that they've played so far. I think Anaheim can carry Jersey to a good series, and the name "Mighty Ducks" will be on the Cup.

Stevens looks like a felon in that picture.

What game is that from?

NHL '95. I had to plug Oates in there from Boston.

Yes he does look like a felon there, but does he look like a model citizen now?

I think that's more a function of the teams they played than their own play. The Detroit and Dallas series were some of the best hockey I've seen in these playoffs; the Minnesota series was a snoozefest. Jersey plays a similar style to Minnesota, so there's no reason to think it won't be more of the same.

Well,I switched my day off from Wednesday to Tuesday so now I can watch game 1 at least. And probably game 4 as well.

I'm ready......I think this is gonna be a competitive series.

Hm... For a trap playing series, this is quite fast pace so far.

I was watching. My TV is in the other room.

Good 1st period. Jersey looked good, but Anaheim looked a bit rusty.

I thought it was good for both sides.

At least they are letting them play it out. Not penalty infested.

This has to be by far the worst game Anaheim has played in the playoffs.
