Guest cartman Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Exactly what he said above. I don't care how great a goalie is, without a good Defense in front oh him, he wont win. There is NO goalie that can constantly stop every breakaway, two on one, or three on one advance. If the Bruins had Brodeur and the devils had Shields/Hackett the Devils would still most likely win most playoff series'. The Bruins have ZERO Defense in fron of DECENT goaltending. The devils have GREAT defense in fron of Great goaltending. If it was the other way around as I said above, the bruins would have ZERO Defense and GREAT goaltending, and the Devils would have GREAT Defense and DECENT goaltending. Which would YOU want your team to have?
Guest bob_barron Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 As someone who grew up in NY- I've watched a lot of Devils games. The Devils may have a good defence but it's Brodeur in the end that get's the job done. He's carried the Devils to many victories throughout his career. He's a fantastic goalie and anyone who denies that should be asked the question- Do you actually watch hockey?
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Do you actually watch hockey? Brodeur is a fine goalie, but he has never had to play behind a weak blueline. Who cares. The guy is up there with Patrick Roy as the best goalie of the past 25 years. A great defense has nothing to do with it. Besides; Stevens, Daneyko, and Shmelik are shells of their former selves, Neidermeyer is great, and Tverdovsky is a above-average yet disappointment player on whatever team he has been on. Winning the playoffs all comes down to goaltending. Patrick Roy either wins or loses games for his team. Same with Hasek. The Canucks have a great defense, but a brutal goaltender, and look at them.
Guest LaParkaMarka Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I'm not sure if you can say the Canucks defense is great...maybe above average, but not close to a team like Jersey. It isn't all Cloutier's fault, though he didn't do what a good playoff goalie does, ie stand on his head and win his team a game despite bad defense (see Hasek, Dominik...for a more recent example, see Giguere, J.S.). Unless Cloutier manages to regain his early season form, the Canucks won't get past a quality team like Colorado or Detroit. Osgood looked *horrible* yesterday, which is why the Canucks can win this series. After that...who knows.
Urban Warfare Posted April 12, 2003 Author Report Posted April 12, 2003 4-1 flyers!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck the leafs
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I can't believe I'm typing this, but GO FLYERS
Guest treble charged Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I hope Yashin gets a hat trick tomorrow.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Weird...why would you wish for that and not a Senators loss?
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I hope Yashin gets a hat trick tomorrow. I hope the Leafs get their asses kicked by the Flyers...oh wait. Nevermind.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Gentlemen, let us compromise. BOTH the Leafs and Senators are going to go down. Its just a matter of fact. And as I have said from the beginning, the Flyers are going to win it all. They are dominant. Their team is stacked beyond words, and if they hit their groove - NO ONE will be able to stop them. No one.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Except Cechmanek. Or was I the only one who noticed that the Leafs had a harder time putting the puck into an empty net than past Cechmanek on Wednesday?
Guest treble charged Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 This is ONE game, I'm not really worried too much about it. The Leafs just need a goal or two in the 3rd to have something build on for Monday night. Just a few goals to shake Chechmanek's (or 'Chermanek', as Don Cherry likes to call him) confidence.

Dude, the Flyers dominated game 1, and they played horribly. The Leafs are really not a good team. They would be toast without Mogilny. Its over. The Leafs can't bully the Flyers around like everyone else. Everyone is on point tonight; Roenick, Gagne, LeClair, Recchi, Amonte, Primeau, ect. This is the game that will put the past playoff jinx behind them. Watch out, watch out.
Guest treble charged Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 The Flyers didn't dominate game 1. They dominated the 2nd period, yes. The 1st and 3rd periods were pretty even, in my opinion. Have they dominated game 2, from 5 minutes on, no question. I just want this game to end soon so they can go to the news and then the Oilers/Stars game quicker.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Quick update: Oilers 1, Stars 0.
Guest treble charged Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I think Brewer scored, but I think Dallas has tied it up now.
Urban Warfare Posted April 12, 2003 Author Report Posted April 12, 2003 yeah, zubov got it. amzingly, dallas has had 5 powerplays in this game
Urban Warfare Posted April 12, 2003 Author Report Posted April 12, 2003 2-1 dallas. young may have tiped that one in.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Stars score again...AGAIN on the PP. Young from Sydor and Zubov, it looks like.
Urban Warfare Posted April 12, 2003 Author Report Posted April 12, 2003 Tonights Games: New Jersey wins, 4-2 Philly wins 4-1
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Good...the sooner the guy who took 5 Bruins is eliminated from my hockey pool, the better.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Shit...Young scores again. This is shaping up to be a blowout.
Urban Warfare Posted April 12, 2003 Author Report Posted April 12, 2003 edmonton has to have a BIG 2nd period, like in Game 1.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Grapes is going NUTS over all the chintzy penalties against the Oilers.
Guest starvenger Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Speaking of game 2s, my predictions for tonight: Jersey over Bahston to go 2-0. Brodeur once again shows why he's one of the best. Philly over Toronto to go 1-up. Hitchcock bitchslaps his troops and hopefully we see a Brashear/Domi fight late in the 3rd. And I plan a trip to the Peel Pub or Shoeless Joes next Saturday afternoon (which will piss my gf off. She has yet to grasp the meaning of the term 'hockey widow'.) Oh, and somebody gets hurt. Let's say, Kim Johnsson, for shits and giggles. Dallas over Edmonton to go 1-up. Marty Turco overcomes his playoff jitters and stands on his head. 2-for-2 so far. I even called the fight!! Not that I'm happy about the Leafs losing, but there's too much parity between the two teams to expect one to win 2 in a row.
Guest starvenger Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Grapes is going NUTS over all the chintzy penalties against the Oilers. Bah, Don Cherry's a rednecked xenophobic idiot.
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Do you have a dish? Digital cable...almost as good.
