Tony Schiavone and Paul Heyman? How about that? Plus, you could bring the Natural Disasters 2003 along...only problem is we'd have to find a way to keep Team Angle on Smackdown...

When did JR start becoming a joke? That's my question. I was watching some old NWA stuff, and he sounded like such a credible announcer. Very straightlaced. He actually gave matches a truly "legitimate" feel... like the way Tazz works now, noting stuff like psychology.

I'm sure it doesn't help that he's stuck with that equally over the top motherfucker Lawler

I say they hire two legitimate sports commentators from basketball, baseball, or football... train them in wrestling knowledge, moves, psychology etc, and throw them out there.

JR just annoys me now. He has to sell every thing as it is either the biggest miscarriage of justice of all time, or the greatest thing to ever happen to the planet earth. I watched the Wrestlemania X8 match between HHH and Jericho last night, and his verbal blowjobs for HHH are just pathetic, made even more so by the fact that the crowd just couldn't give a shit. And don't even get me started on the "STONE COLD, STONE COLD, BA GAWD!" shit.

I just hope it is for a while, but to be honest I can't see his absence being for more than 2 weeks.

This isn't anything against you, specifically, but I've watched HHH/Jericho more than a few times and the crowd isn't as dead as people seem to say it was. And I'm not saying it was super hot, but it wasn't dead. I think part of the reason for it isn't because of who was in it, but because it was second down the line from the superhot Rock/Hogan. But I don't buy claims that it was dead or they couldn't "give a shit."

Again, that's not personal against you. Just something I don't understand.

While JR can be overbearing and is getting a bit sloppy, I still love him for nostalgic reasons. It may be time for someone else to take the spot, though. I wouldn't mind Coach, since he's the best of the second tier, IMO.

You've got a point, but the fact is for the main event of Wrestlemania the crowd reaction was pretty poor. The odd muffled Y2J chant and a pop every now and again for the odd spot. Maybe it isn't as bad as everyone makes out but JR's shilling of the match as one of the "gutsiest efforts I've ever seen" among others just looked completely stupid due to the crowd lack of enthusiasm.

JR has turned into Tony Schiavone, over shilling everything to the point where he has no credibility. Last weeks speech was so bad it was funny. "He can't beat him and couldn't find anyone to beat him" a night after The Rock pinned him clean.

Saying that the marks love him as we saw last night so I can see why they keep him around. I guess we are in the minority.

The marks love him because they love Austin... that's it. And he's sort of a WWE sacred cow/mainstay. Plus... the crowd was pretty hot all night regardless of what they were handed

And I didnt find his shilling of HHH/Jericho nearly as annoying as the "mixed reaction" comments he was giving during Rock/Hogan

JR's an institution. And, as Vince should be finding out now, the past DOES NOT = ratings.

For my money, put Stone Cold as PBP with Heyman as Colour. It'd be borderline chaos, but great at the same time.

Just because Austin is good at promos, doesn't mean he would be good at commentary

See: Anderson, Arn

Name me one person who wouldn't mark out at a combo of Heyman and Austin.

Ideally they should get Joey Styles in B-)

Austin/Heyman could be entertaining... but I'm skeptical. I think Austin's voice is a little too raspy... but maybe I'm just being picky

Anyway... Joey Styles?!? I hope I'm not the only one here who feels he's just a little overrated. I can't stand his "Oh My Goooooooood" especially when he uses the blood curdling scream technique when saying it

He would be better than JR though... I'll give him that

Aye. I remember watching it on DVD on my computer and listening to it through headphones and smiling at the odd "Y2J" chants (though some of them ended with "SUCKS!" which i suppose is a credit to Jerky doing his job well. But yes, it was a bit too quiet for a Mania ME.

Hasn't anyone watched those couple of Celebrity Deathmatches where Stone Cold did the guest announcing? If that was actually him, that'd be funny as hell. Although we'd have to hear "Hell Yeah" and "Can o' Whup Ass" a thousand times a RAW broadcast.

And I still want Austin/Hogan dammit, at Wrestlemania 20.

They should have a sock-puppet do the announcing... Vince McMuppet they could call him. It'd be fantastic.

"ONE...TWO...THREE! HE'S GOT'EM! Oh YES HE'S GOT HIM! IT'S ALL OVER! ONE, TWO AND THREE... Oh wait a second, he kicked out...OOOOH MEE OOOOH MY~!"

Shit, they could do a gimmick with it...

They could have the Puppet come out in different clothing each week and pretend to be a wrestler and shit. It could even pretend to be JR and still manage the same amount of facial expressions. It could piss-off all the boys in the back and it will become this one big mystery angle.

"Who's the Puppet-Master?! Who his controlling Vince McMuppet?!!!"

Even though it's perfectly obvious cause you can see Vince under the table - but everyone plays along because Vince is out of his mind and they don't want him to fire them.

Fantasy/Reality

It would be fantastic satire.

Announcing.

The fun is in seeing how long it would take for Cole to crack.

Even if you think Joey Styles is overrated, he still would be a much better voice for RAW than Jim Ross.

Haha, exactly. I was thinking the exact same thing when I heard it, and am suprised it was not brought up earlier.

Why stop at the PBP position, EVERYONE can be a puppet! (lord knows they are already)

This is Terri backstage and I am here to keep you up-to-date with all the happenings in the locker room and beyond! Many wrestlers have made me their bitch in the past and I am quite familiar with having bodyparts shoved up my ass, so I am quite comfortable barking up their trees. Back to you Vince McMuppet.

Thank you Terri, did you hear that king? She's their Bitch! Haw Haw Haw, Un-Be-Lievable! ANYTHING can happen in the WWE haw haw haw. Oh me Oh my! Haw Haw Haw. What do you think about that King?

When did JR start becoming a joke?

I think he started becoming a joke when the product starting faliing. When the product was good, Ross was perfect for selling something HUGE. He could add to an event because he gave a huge happening a huge feel, and, in some cases, even mimic the feelings of the fans on something that happened. Unfortunately, the booking became rather lazy, and, after awhile, Ross was just mindlessly shilling every non-event. For me, he became a self-parody when the Big Show joined the NWO and was damning his soul to hell, as I wonder why I should care about the heel turn of some guy who spent the last year just being mindlessly thrown into tag matches.

Not to mention his latest thing of ranting against midcarders and Bischoff. It comes off as everything from hypocritical to just plain confusing considering how all over the place the booking has been.

I am quite glad he's gone away for awhile. The Coach may not be that good, but, he was better than Michael Cole when he first started on Smackdown, and now Michael Cole has found chemistry with Tazz and turned into a decent announcer. Hopefully, the same will hold true for the Coach.

One of the main problems with the commentary is the nature of the beast today as opposed to the 80s. Back then, they didn't have as much television exposure, so the commentators could talk about the history of the feuds, keep fans up to date on the wrestlers themselves, and maybe an upcoming big event or two. Nowadays, each segment is filled with shills for the main event later on, or the the upcoming PPV, or a new DVD or book coming out, or when one of the Divas is appearing at a mall near you! No matter how good a commentator they put in there, he/she will always be hampered by the voices in the back telling them to push the PPV, push the product, forget what's going on in the ring and tell the viewers to STAY TUNED!!!

Guys like Styles would never be allowed to cut loose the way they did in their heyday. Guys like Cyrus would never be allowed to push themselves over the rest of the product. And shitheads like Schiavone will never regain their knack for decent PBP after so many years of "This is the greatest night in the history of our sport!" It's a shame that JR, at one time the measuring stick of PBP men, is sadly heading down that road.

And shame on you for mentioning Dusty Rhodes or Stevie Ray. I'd rather listen to a thousand annoying hours of that pathetic loser Coachman than one second of those wCw idiots.

First off... the Ring sucks lol. I've seen Angela Lansbury movies that are more frightening

Secondly, Dusty Rhodes is a joke as an announcer. Listening to him is like listening to someone scratch their finger nails across a chalkboard. I've watched matches with his commentary with casual fans and non-fans, and I can't think of a single person that didn't hate him afterwards. I want WWE to move away from the cartoonish feel... and bringing back Dusty's nonsensical style is the last thing they need.

I think they should have JR and Steve Austin switch places.

Austin (on commentary): Damn that Triple H straight to... WAIT A MINUTE! IT'S JR! BUSINESS IS ABOUT TO PICK UP NOW, BAH GAWD! GOOD OL'! GOOD OL'! GOOD OL'!
