Anyone mourning the loss of The Wiz?

Man, this seriously sucks. Blame Cablevision for this one, even though big national chains like Best Buy are starting to muscle into the Northeast's turf Nobody Beats The WIZ was doing crazy buisness.

 

Weird for me because I live close to the one in Scarsdale and that had been open for some 15 years, now granted I haven't really shopped there regularly in years (been going to Sam Goody's or Borders for CD/DVD needs and when Best Buy came to Scarsdale/Yonkers about a year ago I started to go there for Home Entertainment devices) but it does feel like another part of my youth is leaving. (Thats a whole other thread)

The Wiz was overrated. I went to PC Richard and Son, Best Buy and Circuit City for electronics or Borders, Sam Goodys, FYE, and Coconuts for CDs/DVDs. Or regional stores for video games. I'm seriously glad Cablevision's falling apart and let it go and die, because continously they rape the average customer (for their cable or at The Wiz). Except for Optimum Online, which is the only decent thing about them.

This is why I'm mourning it. My local Wiz store has been on that corner (W. 97th & Broadway) for like the entire time I've been in this neighborhood (nearly 2 decades), and I spent much of my grade school/high school years buying music from there. Apparently, the chain was mismanaged for years before Cablevision took over...I wonder why they could never turn it around.

 

And they just redecorated all the stores too. They should've had more competitive prices on stuff...most DVDs could've been found at lower prices at Best Buy or other local places.

Yeah....The Wiz on Fordham has been there since I can remember and it was pretty damn cheap compared to the other places in the neighborhood. There aren't any Best Buy's in the Bronx and now I have to travel my ass off to get DVD's.

 

Oh, AC...Sopranos Season 3 sold out the day I went to pick it up at 50% off....bastards.
