Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 10, 2003 ..Mint. TORONTO, April 9 /CNW/ - Well-loved for its thirst-quenching blend of lemon and lime, the Sprite brand is leading the soft drink trend for the newest flavour sensation -- mint. Sprite Ice, the first flavour extension for the brand, has a hint of mint for maximum refreshment. Available in stores later this month, Canadians will be the first in North America to try Sprite Ice. The new beverage will only be available in Canada and Belgium. "Sprite is the number one lemon-lime soft drink in Canada because it delivers unmatched thirst-quenching refreshment," said David Vivenes, Group Manager, Coca-Cola Ltd. "When we explored ways to provide an even deeper sense of refreshment, the crisp and cool attributes of mint made it a logical addition to Sprite's winning formula." Sprite Ice will be packaged in clear blue plastic bottles with blue and silver graphics to reflect its icy-cool persona. Sprite Ice will also be available in 12-can packages. In an attempt to break out of its traditional role as companion to chewing gum, chocolate and candy, mint is emerging as the flavour of the moment. From bar drinks such as mojitos and juleps to salsas, mint is popping up on food and drink menus everywhere. A new advertising campaign for Sprite Ice will begin in May. MMMM...minty fresh Sprite. Im intrigued, but it doesn't sound that good.
Guest B-X Report post Posted April 10, 2003 What the fuck? A "deeper sense of refreshment"!? Huh? If I want a "deep" sense of refreshment, I'll drink goldschlaugger.
Guest ElectricRaccoon Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Mint soda? Mint...soda? Yike. I though bubblegum soda was the worst idea for a flavour I'd ever hear, but man, that doesn't really sound appealing at all. The julep reference is a good point - I guess it could be used to adulterate otherwise perfectly good bourbon without being too disgusting, but other than that, it doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd want to drink. At least Scope has alcohol in it right out of the bottle. EDIT: The bottle design does sound pretty badass. Like Dasani...FROM THE FUTURE. At least it'll make for wicked BTers, even if the soda ends up being discarded.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Ill also add, in a semi related note, that Pepsi has announced they will be making Vanilla Pepsi and it will be available in the US sometime in the summer.

Huh. Vanilla Coke works for me because the vanilla flavour overpowers the nutmeg taste, and it really brings Coke together as a whole. I wonder if it'll jive with Pepsi (which is less "syrupy" I find, although not as complex). Man, I think about soda WAY too much.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Pepsi sucks. Vanilla Pepsi will just taste like Vanilla mixed with suck.

Have to agree with you on this, looks like this beverage is being marketed to alcoholics who like to indulge in mix drinks. Have bad breathe......drink Sprite Ice. They need to get that rapper Snow to do commericals, to keep it real, ya know what I sayin'.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Mint soda? Well, I guess it will go down as something was a good idea at the time.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 10, 2003 I haven't tried it yet but my buddy did and he said it tastes like the shit you have to rince your mouth with at the dentist. I'm gonna pass on it I think.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 10, 2003 The newest flavour sensation Tropical Sprite Remix just arrived at my local conviented store. It taste like Clear Coke with a light hint of berry flavor, I give it thumbs down, unless you plan in mixing in some alcohol.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Sprite Ice appears to disgust most of you, but right now, I'm jealous of Canadians. It sounds like something I'd like to try (I love mint juleps).
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Yeah, really. I want to try it. I love mint.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I went out looking for it today. It was advertised, but I could not find it. On the plus side, I did finally find lime Crush which I have been seeking for about 2 years now. It was well worth the wait.

Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted April 16, 2003 Well, I am drinking some now. Basically, it's like drinking a piece of mint gum with a lemon lime twist. Not something I would buy ever again, unless I needed fresh breath.

Guest HungryJack Report post Posted April 22, 2003 I didn't mind it. I forgot what it was when I bought it, most likely because I have half-sloshed and needed something to chase vodka shots with.

Chunk 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2003 I though bubblegum soda was the worst idea for a flavour I'd ever hear, but man, that doesn't really sound appealing at all. I dunno about that. Over here in the Uk, you can get Cotton Candy flavour soda. It takes about two mouthfulls before you feel like your teeth are about to fall out becuase it is sooo sweet. As for dnL, when I first tried it I thought it tasted like washing up liquid, and it looks the same to. The more you have it though, the better it gets. ChUnK! At that 0point, they migh as well just bottle their high-denisty industrial fructose or whatever, because by the time you've reached cotton-candy flavoured soda I'd be willing to bet that it's about 99% sweeteners anyway. Bubblegum soda is wrong, but cotton candy soda is outright horrifying. Also, the Tartar Control Sprite bottles don't even look as cool as described, although they're more durable plastic that all Sprite bottles are, and have those cool divots, still making them pretty slick for the aforementioned after-market uses. Too bad you have to pour out the damn soda. I tried one, and I regret it. I didn't even finish it. Edited April 26, 2003 by ElectricRaccoon
