Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 13, 2003 The Austins and Foleys weren't stars yet when WWF signed them, so they were hired fairly cheaply and busted their asses to get on top and to entertain the audiences. They were fresh. Am I the only person alive who thought Mick Foley, CACTUS JACK, was already a legend in his own right, before ever even signing with WWF? Hell, Steve Austin was a pretty major in WCW also. He wasn't a main eventer and never had the title, but they did make him out to look like a force, and for a while was one of their main, and over, heels. Obviously WWF took him and just shot him to the sky, but still. In my eyes, Steve Austin was already a "star" when WWF signed him, and damnit to me, Cactus Jack was already a legend. They were stars to some degree DISPITE their treatment in WCW. Also, being a legend in Japan is different than being a legend state-side. Plus there is no way you can compare their fame in WWF compared to previously.

Plus there is no way you can compare their fame in WWF compared to previously. I had never seen Cactus Jack perform in Japan prior to his coming into WWF. Hell, I always looked at him as a legend just by his matches IN WCW. His feuds with Sting and Vader are just classic to me, and I took them just like that. Hell, even his match teaming with Max Payne going against The Nasty Boys in the street fight is a classic to me. I just loved the guy back then, it's how I'd almost rather remember him (with the Mankind deal), because his change to Mick Foley was just totally forgetable. So yeah, Cactus was a legend in my eyes based on his WCW work alone. Yeah, he wasn't REALLY just based on that, but to me, he was. No, I obviously can not say they had as much fame in WCW as they had in WWF/WWE, that would be insane. I will say this however. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, also became much MUCH bigger stars by joining WCW.

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, also became much MUCH bigger stars by joining WCW. Hall and Nash were NOTHING in WCW...the first time. They came to WWF. They became Razor Razor and Diesel. Razor became a record-breaking holder of the Intercontinental Title, he had a huge fued with HBK that is still remembered today. Nash was a 9-month-long WWF Champion, held the Tag Team Titles, fueded with Bret, HBK, and some of Vince's hand-picked hoss challengers. In WCW they were put in an angle that was destined for success (it could have been nearly any 2 guys from WWF at about the same rank). They became tag champs several times, Hall was a JTTS and Nash held the WCW World Title. Other than the the "main event" status granted to them by being the founding nWo members, they aren't MUCH better off than they were in the WWF. Even so, they would have never had that much status in WCW if they hadn't had their runs in WWF. It was just another case of WCW taking established talent, but in this case they actually had a good use for them.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted April 13, 2003 Meltzer said in the latest WO newsletter that Sting is proberly being brought in around June. I hope to God not. I really liked Sting back in the 1990's. I know he got kind of lazy towards the end of his career but I just don't want him to come to the WWE and have Vince McMahon and his merry band writer morons piss all over his career. Sting doen't need to come in and I don't see why he even would. Doesn't he hate the current direction of the WWE? I just don't wanted his career to be tarnished by the WWE. I feel pretty much the same way. Sting is probably one of my top five favorites of ALL TIME. He was one of the first workers that I became a fan of, way back when I first started watching wrestling over a decade ago. I don't want to see him in the WWE, because they'll just piss all over him. I don't want his career to finish in a state as sorry as, say, Ric Flair's is today. I can honestly say that if / when he signs, and is made to job to HHH or Taker, I think I may cry. Hell, Steve Austin was a pretty major in WCW also. He wasn't a main eventer and never had the title, but they did make him out to look like a force, and for a while was one of their main, and over, heels. Obviously WWF took him and just shot him to the sky, but still. In my eyes, Steve Austin was already a "star" when WWF signed him, I agree with this. There seems to be some sort of revisionist history when it comes to Austin pre-WWF. True, he was never pushed to the huge limits he was in the WWF, but he WAS one of WCW's main heels for a LONG time. He was solid midcard, occasionally upper-midcard. Austin was at least on the level in WCW that Edge is now in the WWF.
