John Cena is EXTREMELY OVERRATED

Recommended Posts

Guest GameCop

Did you see his match with Taker on the last Smackdown? Cena's performance was horrible! The guy isn't fluid in the ring; he looks like he's lumbering all the time. Angle was able to make him look like a competent wrestler in his inaugural match, because, he's well....he's Angle AKA the best wrestler in the world.

WWE management also saw Cena's lack of in-ring ability as well, and are considering a Benoit vs. Lesnar bout at Backlash.

Moreover, what do you see in Cena's rap skills? He doesn't look very legitimate; in fact, he's worse than Jamie Kennedy in the new film, Malibu's Most Wanted.

Er, no. I love Angle's ring work and all, but he's (pro-wise) not worthy of that title. Yet.

Cena's okay with me, but yes, he is overrated. However, he's going to be pushed huge since he's another OVW product and he's young.

I Liked him better before this Vanilla Ice on Steroids crap.

When he officially debut on Smackdown as just a up n coming wrestler, he seemed more interesting during the Ruthless Aggression stuff than him trying to rap and getting squased by Brock and Mostly by Taker.

I think while a lot of people here may think too much of him too soon, it is because he is young, these flaws he has now can all be gone with more experience. Kurt Angle is the exception, not the rule as far as career development.

I think the deal is that he's viewed by many in WWE as a total package. He's decent in the ring (remember, WWE has lower standards than smarks), entertaining on the mic, and is a fresh new face that is drawing lots of attention. That's all that really matters.

If you ask John, er...Banky, he'll sum it up like this: "he's entertaining." They see him as having more long-term potential and marketability than a lot of smark favorites.

I certainly think he's overrated too, depending on what you are referring to. His workrate is far from impressive and doesn't warrant anything near main event level at this point.

As far as mic skills go, I actually think his stuff is pretty good and original, at least. At least he's forming his own character, which is a positive. And he's getting decent heat from the stuff on the mic, once again, which isn't a bad thing at all.

John Cena will be a guy who allows his natural charisma to carry him throughout his career, rather than his in ring talent. He's not horrible, but rather, "average".

Well to be overrated you have to be.......rated over what he is, but all I see is people liking a guy who's showing promise.

No one is claiming him to be a wrestling god. Are we not allowed to say, "Hey that guy's got potential and he's entertaining me right now"?

I like his raps. He's got good intensity and he's not horrible in the ring. Plus I like his finisher. Cena didn't do much in the Taker match cause he was squashed for most of it.

When people see him as "the future" I'm thinkin he is being overrated.

Yeah. I won't complain too much if he gets pushed, because while he may not be a great worker, he may got a lot better, and at least he has something else to fall back on (mic skills).

As opposed to other guys that lack mic skills or ring skills, or allegedly have good mic skills but are utter shit in the ring. For example, Jones, who supposedly is very charismatic, but I've yet to see it.

Let me just say right off the bat, as a big time Benoit mark, that would be FUCKING STUPID!!

Anyway, anyone with eyes and a brain could tell exactly why Cena didn't look too hot on SD. 'Nuff said. As for his raps, he has great lines but not-so-great rhytym. But with nothing to lose with Rock/Goldberg on the Backlash card, and a built-in storyline with Brock, there's no reason why Cena shouldn't get the title shot. It'll kill some time before the first SD-brand PPV in July.

John Cena is EXTREMELY OVERRATED, what do you see in this guy?

The "look."

When Sting debuts, just watch them give Cena the gimmick of Sting's personal "Little Stinger".

The "look" isn't anything remarkable though, just a dime-a-dozen physique (at least, a dime-a-dozen in the WWE; land of the roid).

I just don't see *it* in him. I enjoy his promos but they don't make me want to pay to see the matches they promote.

He has "it". In the future people will be looking for the "next John Cena" and in a good way, not the horrible "next Marty Janetty" comparisons. This guy will be big, trust me.

I agree he'll be huge also, I will agree with that. I saw that in him even before he was on WWE TV.

C'mon, he's the next Mike Sanders.

I will not say that isn't a possibility, as I at one time also thought Mike Sanders would one day be huge also.

Mike Sanders never had the chances John Cena does, Mike Sanders didn't have the size that the WWE loves and Cena has. Cena was amazing in a house show a few months ago, he was even my highlight of the night, that was back in October so it shows you how talented the guy can be. His skills have grown in leaps and bounds since then too.

Yep. Basic worker, good mic skills, clean look, some people on the net looked at him as the future.

Well when your facing a guy that let's you get in a total one offensive move in a 15 minute match and only let's you beat him with a three man beat down and multiple chair shots, well your gonna look like shit. I think Cena is overrated at this point but I think people hype him because he does definently has potential to be something special. I personally think at this point he shouldn't competing for the #1 belt in the company but it has more to do with how he's been built rather than his in ring ability as why in the world would anyone take him as a serious threat after the way he was treated by Undertaker?

I almost think they are forced to have Benoit go over this week because at least Benoit is seen as a legit threat. I hate the idea because whoever faces Brock isn't going to win (nor should they since its his first title defense) and Benoit runs the risk of getting the choker lable, as not being able to win the big one. I personally think you almost run the threat of killing Brock's heat in a match with Cena at Backlash. If Cena gives him a good run the marks will wonder why Brock had such a tough time beating Cena while Undertaker dominated him.

I will say that John Cena has a better chance than Sanders did/does, simply based on the fact that Cena is a WWE product, and you know how they love to focus on them.

So did a lot of people.

Hell, when I read about who is or isn't apparently "the future", I can't help but think of which names were brought up when the question was asked in, say.. 1999? The names Billy Gunn, Test and Hardcore Holly come to mind.

You just never know.

I actually think Cena has a good future. He has charisma, decent look and mic skills, and not a bad worker. The young Sting comparisons are pretty accurate imo. And the best part is, he can and will improve ALOT.

It's hit or miss, and no one can truly say who will or will not be the future. Hell, I never thought Rocky, HHH, or even Austin would have ended up as huge as they are now.

Sanders doesn't have it, Cena does. Comparing Sanders to Cena is comparing a hamburger to Prime Rib in WWE's eyes.

I think alot of people were seeing Austin as a Flair-heir apparent as early as 92/93. But the megastar thing never really crossed my mind...til the pops started getting huge in 97/98.

I think the reason why everyone likes Cena is because he really does seem to be enjoying what he's doing and he's bringing that attitude onto the screen. He's bringing life to his character and really, that's all it's about.

And yes his in-ring skills aren't the greatest, but I'd like to think he could get better with the in-ring skills. Besides, it's not like he's horrid. He's about average.

I ALWAYS saw Austin as a main event world champion, but the thing is, I saw him as a 100% heel career champion, and I most certainly didn't ever see him becoming what many say is the most over Pro. Wrestler of all time. Austin was a natural, but I never thought he would have become the future, and as big as he is.
