Well I'll wait another 15 minutes before making the pick but I'll still call all teams that didn't pick in the 1st round (Redskins, Dolphins, Falcons, Buccaneers) if no one else wants them.

How long should we wait between picks? I don't see DawnBTVS logged in and they have two of the next three picks.

Rex Grossman

QB, Florida

Ht: 6'1" Wt: 217 40: 4.92

Notes: Comes from an affluent family. Has a reputation for not making the greatest decisions off the field. Enrolled in January 1999 to participate in spring drills but used his redshirt year in the fall. Started eight games in 2000 and completed 131-of-212 passes for 1,866 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a sophomore in '01, when he was named Associated Press Player of the Year and first-team All-Southeastern Conference. Started all 11 games and completed 259-395-3,896-34-12. In '02, completed 287-502-3,402-22-17.

Positives: Has a quick release and an over-the-top delivery. Has handled pressure situations well in the past. Has a good -- not great -- arm and throws an extremely catchable ball, especially deep. His mechanics -- especially setup and compact release -- are assets. Seems to be aware in the pocket and buys time with his feet. Has football intelligence and the toughness of a pit bull. Also has good mental toughness. Likes to lift with the linemen. Teammates love his self-confidence and bring-it-on attitude. Can get the ball into tight spots because of his intermediate arm strength. Has a burning desire to win.

Negatives: Can be lazy and rubs people the wrong way at times because of his confidence. Likes to party. Got by on natural talent at Florida. When things didn't go well in '02, Grossman was out of sync a lot and made too many off-balance throws. Can escape pressure but is not a threat to tuck and run. Has average overall mechanics. Accuracy down the field is limited, as it is when he throws on the move. Will need to be schooled on what the "football classroom" means. Struggles in new offense weren't entirely related to fresh scheme and changes in his surroundings, but teams will critique his ineffectiveness without Steve Spurrier and the wealth of talent that left for the NFL in 2002. Didn't display great accuracy at his Scouting Combine workout.

Summary: Another year at Florida probably would not have hurt Grossman, but he figures to be drafted on the first day.

With the 34th pick in the draft, the Detroit Lions select OLB Lamarcus Mcdonald out of Texas Christian

Notes: Did not play in 1999. Played in 11-of-12 games in 2000, missing one game due to academics, and recorded 33 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. Started at inside linebacker from Game Two on in '01 and was a true impact player, getting in on 80 tackles, including 25 for loss, and six sacks. Started all 11 games in '02, recording 113-28-8, with three forced fumbles and four passes broken up. Was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. Looked like a rabbit playing at 209 pounds at the Senior Bowl, but felt he needed to add 20 pounds to play linebacker in the NFL and has lost some speed and quickness.

Positives: Big playmaker. Flies around the field with excellent lateral movement and change of direction. Passionate player who is very productive and has great football intelligence. Natural player who can be quick. Keys and diagnoses plays. Very aggressive. Attacks and takes on block. Works through tackles. Has a knack for slipping blocks. Very strong for his size and plays bigger and faster than he is. Has fine instincts. Great special-teams player and great covering kicks.

Negatives: Lacks height, weight and speed. Marginal student who didn't like school. Lacks consistent burst, size and acceleration. Street guy who does not use his hands well to shed blocks but tries to get by on athletic ability. Needs to get better hitting and shedding. Freelances and plays his own defense. Not a major factor in coverage. Doesn't have great football intelligence.

Summary: Slow 40 time hurt his stock, but he plays faster than he tested and should be an immediate contributor on special teams.

With the 35th pick in the draft, the Chicago Bears select Safety Mike Doss from Ohio State.

Mike Doss

SS | (5-10, 207, 4.55) | OHIO STATE

By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played in every game as a true 18-year-old freshman in 1999 and started the final two. Started every game in 2000 and '01 and was an All-Big Ten selection and a Sporting News All-American in both seasons. Had 43 tackles and broke up two passes in 1999. Had 94 tackles, including 13 for loss, with six passes broken up, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries for touchdowns in 2000. Posted 87-10-4-3 and four fumble recoveries with a touchdown and two blocked punts in '01. Started all 14 games in '02, recording 107 tackles -- 65 solo and 42 assists -- five tackles for losses, two interceptions for 80 yards and one fumble recovery. Was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, a consensus All-American and a Jim Thorpe Award finalist.

Positives: Big, explosive hitter and top competitor who is well-built. Good feet and hips, and above-average range tackler. Honor student with great football intelligence who is very good reading his keys and diagnosing plays. Gets a very good jump and adjusts to plays. Very good in run support. Shows awareness and instincts in zone coverage and can cover the slot.

Negatives: Inconsistent in coverage. Does not play the ball well and misjudges it. Makes mental errors and bad mistakes, giving up some big plays. Allows receivers behind him. Lacks height and size for a strong safety and is best in the box. Will miss a few tackles coming in too high. Must get better in coverage to be a complete safety, but size puts him at a disadvantage against tight ends and most big receivers.

Summary: Doss will be one of the top safeties drafted because of his smarts and knack for being around the football, but he'll have to work to be more than a great college player.

With the 36th pick in the NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select RB Larry Johnson out of Penn State.

Notes: Father, Larry Sr., is Penn State's DL coach, and his younger brother, Tony, is a wide receiver on the team. Redshirted in 1998. Carried 43 times for 171 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 74 yards and a score in '99. Also returned 13 kickoffs for 230 yards. Carried 75-358-3 in 2000 while also catching 9-22-1 and returning 18 kickoffs for 444 yards. Rushed 71-337-2, caught 11-136-2 and returned 17 kickoffs for 454 yards and one touchdown in '01. Was part of a RB-by-committee approach his first three years but emerged as the chairman of the board in '02. Started 12 of 13 games in '02, carrying 271-2,087-20 and catching 41-349-3. Returned 11 kickoffs for 219 yards.

Positives: Good size, speed and production. Patient and uses blockers well. Has some elusiveness. Can break high tackles and make catches while facing the quarterback. Good quickness (both lateral and rear) and good in-line. Good vision, anticipation and use of blockers. Can pick and slide, get wide and redirect. Tough, finishes runs and has great moves. Johnson can see the cutback lanes and cut upfield. Good agility and balance to make first man miss. Very good hands. High character. Top special-teams player who had three blocked punts in his first three years. Versatile halfback who catches the ball well and returns kickoffs. Made great improvement and came on in '02 as a featured back.

Negatives: Gets narrow and a little upright. Struggles breaking low tackles. Not a pile mover. Average blocker who is reluctant to face up. Lacks explosiveness. Has an average lean and at times, dances too much. Not overly aggressive. Struggled against tough competition. Carried 51 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns vs. Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State, but 200-1,800 vs. everyone else. Not a home-run hitter on a consistent basis.

Summary: A solid, durable back with size and deceptive speed who can also return kicks, Johnson benefits from a weak, weak RB class and likely will be a first-round pick.

If the Carolina pick comes up while I am gone just make the pick, don't bother waiting at all.

Ok bravesfan oked me to make the Zona pick

With the 37th pick the Arizona Cardinals select Bryant Johnson (WR) Penn State

Although the need was addressed earlier with Washington there is no professional caliber player in the Arizona receiving corps and at this point Johnson makes a good value pick

Bryant Johnson

WR | (6-2, 214, 4.55) | PENN STATE

By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: High school sprinter and basketball player who ran an unofficial 10.65 in the 100 meters and competed in the Penn Relays. Caught seven passes for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns as an 18-year-old freshman in 1999. Worked at both wide receiver and defensive back in 2000, when he caught just 4-85-1. Became the Nittany Lions' go-to receiver in '01, catching 51-866-3, including 6-149-1 vs. Miami (Fla.). Started 13-of-13 games in '02, catching 48-917-4 and averaging 70.5 yards per game. Returned 41 punts for 528 yards and scored once.

Positives: Great hands and concentration. Will extend and catch with his hands. Nice size and body control. Good character. Aware and tough over the middle and in a crowd. Makes some adjustments to gain separation. Great body and hands and good feet. Excellent athletic ability. Can beat defenders deep with a double move. Big, physical receiver whose route-running, consistency and concentration have improved. Can make you miss.

Negatives: Not that quick or explosive or sudden. Has build-up type of speed. Tends to round and gather on cuts. Inconsistent adjusting to the ball. Questionable speed and explosiveness into and out of breaks. Uses body to shield defenders. A little stiff in the hips. Doesn't have superquickness in and out of his cuts. Will have to beat defenders with a double move more than with great vertical speed. Doesn't have great second gear. Lacks burst and playmaking ability.

Summary: Could move up to the top of the second round with a good workout.

I'll stick with St. Louis, but if I'm not here when they come up go ahead and pick for me.

If you need to pick for St. Louis, they need an offensive tackle, middle linebacker or wide reciever. There should be some good players around at these positions when St. Louis is on the clock. I'd rate the tackle highest priority followed by MLB and then WR. Or just go for best player available.
