Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 8, 2003 The thing is, stats don't make a good defender and alot of people don't see that. Shawn Bradly and Raef Lafrentz both are amoung league leaders in shotblocking...are they great defenders...I think not. Doug Christie will get you a shit load of steals, but gets eaten alive by the guy he is defending(as any Laker fan will tell you) He gambles, and dives passing lanes...sure. But a great defender can leave a game with no blocks, no steals, nothing on the stat sheet, but ask the guy he was guarding how good a defender he is. Guys like Raja Bell, Greg Buckner, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson(who is routinely outsized by 6-7 inches and god knows how many lbs.) Clifford Robinson, Michael Finley...these are the guys in the league that go out everynight and play great D to no praise but hacks like Kobe and Christie that get torched but dive passing lanes get treated like basketball gods. Ever REALLY look at how many steal Joe Dumars averaged...Or Alvin Robinson...those guys are a couple of the greatest defenders of all time, yet they weren't stat guys. Man I miss the good old days when people paid attention to more than when the ball fell through the hoop.
Guest Bricks Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Hmmm, you think I underestimated the Spurs? I didn't catch the game due to SportsNet airing the Blue Jays game instead, but why is Shaq only getting off one more shot than FREAKIN' Kareem Rush?
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Shaq has been called on Offensive fouls everytime he touches the ball. Let's not forget that Bruce Bowen out performed your boy Kobe in the game. 7-8 in 3 Pointers, you see what happens when you leave a defensive role playa wide open.....he will burn your ass unlike a certain white boy. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 8, 2003 It's not being a crybaby when it's true. The fouls and injuries have killed the Lakers this year, bottom line. Oh and maybe it's because Bowen and Artest aren't as good of defensive players as Kobe. That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted May 9, 2003 83-61...AT THE HALF?!?!?!?!? And, dammit Iverson, make your free throws. The 76ers had that game if AI makes at least 1 at the end.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 9, 2003 It is a must win game for the Mavs Derrick Coleman did help to lose the game also in the final minute he missed a simple jump shot in the paint.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 9, 2003 And, dammit Iverson, make your free throws. The 76ers had that game if AI makes at least 1 at the end. Yeah, I was mad that he missed them as well. Oh well... better luck next time, Philly.

Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I have to admit that I really didn't Artest play too much this year, but the people who make the desisions said he was wasn't as good as Kobe, so guess what? He's shit out of luck and Kobe is a pretty damn good defensive player.IMO And Holy Shit Dallas went the fuck off tonight! But that's what happens when two teams with shitty defenses play each other. Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Bobby Jackson to play with Steiner/Nowinski mask in game 3.
Guest Mole Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Damn, 132 - 110. Mavs kicked some major ass, and I can't believe they scored 83 in the first half.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 9, 2003 After seeing Webber hugging Gerald Wallace while Wallace lightly caressed Webber's upper thigh I'm thinking Shaq's Sacramento Queens was pretty accurate.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 9, 2003 If and when the Spurs take care of business, then I will have no reason to care who wins between Dallas and Sac. I just hope the refs won't be pressured into helping the Lakers win tonight.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted May 9, 2003 If you're so damn good, it doesn't matter how the refs are calling the game. It also comes down to Phil Jackson's unwillingness to update the roster. His refusal to move guys like Horry and Fox and Shaw to try to get some younger and more atheletic pieces around Shaq and Kobe has doomed this team to self destruction. They should've moved those guys while it seemed they had something to offer because now they're stuck with them. I agree with those points 100%. Devean George, a better and more active defender/rebounder, proves that... and it's also proved by the unwillingness to resign Lue. The only thing I ask ref-wise is consistency, and that is their biggest problem. If your going to start calling charges on Shaq, call hooking on Duncan. If your going to let Bruce Bowen harass Kobe like that, Fisher has to be able to get away with it on Parker. And it goes League-wide as well... if Kobe got all the touch fouls Iverson gets, he'd be at the line 30 times a night.

They are trying to make up for years of bad calls going against the opponents of the Lakers. Its so funny to hear Laker fans talk about consistency when all I recall is Laker fans calling other fans/teams whiners and babies for crying over the refs all these years. Guest Bricks Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Game 3 prediction on how bad Antoine Walker will be tonight: Hmmm, they're playing at home, so I expect him to score more than 3 field goals like last game so... 4 for
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 9, 2003 After Byron Scott's comments, I am looking for the C's to come out and thrash the Nets at home. Antoine is due to break out of his slump.
