Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 20, 2003 what worries me... that the winner of game 1 has won the series in the last 18 conference series finals. That doesn't worry me at all, remember the Suns series? Sure, it wasn't the Con. finals, but this game reminded me of game 1; Spurs blew the lead and missed free-throws at the end. Spurs still win in 6. true... BUT that was the first trend that san antonio snapped this year. prior o the suns series, san antonio had NEVER won a series in which they lost the first game. lets hope they continue their strong response. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 20, 2003 This may be old shit, but I was at a graduation and bored today. I was reading some ESPN articles from Page 2 and realized that T Mac almost led an 8 seed past the 1 seed. Sure the guy who wrote the article was on his nuts, but I think that fact was overlooked. Furthermore, they played a 7 game series, which should favor the better team. Just something to think about. I barely saw this post, but this just goes on to prove the theory that T-Mac > Kobe. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 20, 2003 but then the realization hits that t-mac was on an 8TH SEEDED TEAM!!! sorry, but mvp candidates should be in the higher seeds.

You're correct; however, IMHO, the Spurs already played their toughest opponent -- and no, it wasn't the Lakers; it was the Suns. The longer the series goes the Mavs will tire out...mark my words. Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 20, 2003 Honestly, the Lakers got way too cocky and thought they could come back at anytime. Dallas won't make the same mistake. They actually want to win a championship. The Spurs better watch their back and Duncan better show he's an MVP or their asses are fishin' with my boys.....in 5! Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 20, 2003 The series will go at least 6 games.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 20, 2003 San Antonio has no heart. Dallas will win this series. That's one of the biggest loads of crap I've ever heard. San Antonio has plenty of heart. They don't have has much talent as some people act like.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 20, 2003 Dirk was simply awesome last night. There is nothing wrong with the Spurs. They did the same thing when they lost game 1 to the Suns. They are just a young team that is learning as they go. It was a very enjoyable game and I am actually enjoying the NBA playoffs for the first time in 4 years. I wonder why. Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 20, 2003 San Antonio has plenty of heart and talent. Hell, they only lost the first game. The Spurs and Mavs split the season series 2-2. This will be a good one. I swear people lose to the Mavs(the number 2 record in the league mind you) and you act like they are crap. The Mavs are not given any credit.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 20, 2003 If I am not mistaken, I think the Mavs actually ended with the same record as the Spurs but the Spurs are the 1st seed because of some mathematical calculations.

Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 20, 2003 Name me one absolutely crucial game that the Spurs have won by willing themselves to victory. Just one. I present counterexamples: Game 1 vs. Phoenix: Should have put it away easily in regulation, but let Phoenix hang around and hit those two ridiculous 3s to send the game to overtime and then win it. Game 4 vs. the Lakers: Had a huge lead and pissed it away. Game 5 vs. the Lakers: Should have lost this one, and would have if the Bob Horry from last year was taking that shot. Game 6 vs. the Lakers: L.A. folded up like a cheap card table in the 4th. Game 1 vs. Dallas: How could they lose this one? HIT YOUR DAMN THROWS! Should have won going away, but pissed away another lead late and actually made the Dallas defence look like an NBA-calibre D, not an easy feat. This doesn't look like a team with the heart of a champion to me.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted May 20, 2003 If I am not mistaken, I think the Mavs actually ended with the same record as the Spurs but the Spurs are the 1st seed because of some mathematical calculations. IIRC, two teams from the same division can't be 1 & 2. The Spurs had already clinched the divison and #1 seed in the West before they played the last game of the season (where they sat out Duncan) against the Mavs and lost, that gave Dallas their 60 wins. Since they were tied 2-2, Spurs got the edge because they had a better win/loss record in their Conference.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted May 20, 2003 The moral of Game 1: Not even the MVP can score in triple coverage. Hopefully Kobe is taking notes. Good God... the Lakers are done and you still can't lay off Kobe. Newsflash: Dallas and San Antonio are playing an exciting series, how about ending the Laker-hate and start enjoying the new series...
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 20, 2003 I'm enjoying how all the local am sportsradio programs are jumping off the Laker bandwagon and beginning to constantly bitch at Mitch Kupchak and all of his personnel moves. I was at the mall over the weekend and all the Laker jerseys and gear were on sale. I am loving this! I am thoroughly enjoying the Spurs/Mavs series and I think this is very healthy for the NBA to have some new blood at the top. Vince should take some notes. BTW, word is that Kobe wants to exercise his option to get out of his contract next season to test the market. This puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Mitch to make some solid moves this summer or it could be bye bye Kobe

Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 20, 2003 pr- you actually enjoyed last night's game???? that was the worst high-scoring game i ever saw. sorry, but the fouls for both sides were laughable. phantom calls on both sides, shaq-a-bowen, no flow. the only amazing thing was the amount of free throws taken by both teams. if that game were called like a regular NBA game, neither team would have had more than 20-25 (30 tops!) free throws (as it should have been). if the series goes more uptempo then i could see this being an enjoyable series regardless of the winner but last night was not good basketball. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted May 20, 2003 This Mavs/Spurs series will go at least 6, if not 7 games. I see a split 2-2 after the Memorial Day weekend, with the winner of game 5 firmly in the driver's seat and probrably winning the series.

Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I had to rip on Kobe. What was I gonna say about Game 1? I wish I didn't sleep through the 2nd quarter? Anyway, I have to agree with...uh....whoever it was, for a good team the Spurs sure get lazy. Seems like every other game the're letting somebody come back from a double digit lead. And there's not many things you can do about the other team making thier free throws, but one thing you can do is make your own free throws. I'm interested in seeing how the Spurs react to such a fucked up loss. And to see if Popovich has the balls to play Ferry at the end of the game instead of Bowen again. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 21, 2003 for me... 10X better than Game 6 actually, the first 3 quarters of game 6 were close and it was a well-called and well-played game. the 4th quarter blew from a drama perspective but the result was nice for spurs fans.
