Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 16, 2003 There's no crying in basketball. You go out and play your best and win or lose, you know you gave it your all and there's no shame in that. Buy crying? WTF, this isn't figure skating. I'm not Shaq's biggest fan but at least he has the decency and the humility to admit that the Spurs were the better team and won fair and sqaure. If you put your heart and soul into something whether it be figure skating, basketball, or cricket, to only have it taken from you, you'd cry too. Not to mention the Lakers were trying to do something that hasn't been done since the late 60's and early 70's.

Not to mention the Lakers were trying to do something that hasn't been done since the late 60's and early 70's. Nothing was taken from them. They only have themselves to blame for losing and getting punked at home. They were so arrogant and cocky that they just assumed they can turn it into another gear whenever they want to. Instead of being humble when they won, they were cocky and arrogant. Now that they are on the other side of the fence, they should be just take it on the chin and try again next year but crying has no place here unless you realize a lifelong dream and WIN a championship. Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 16, 2003 ABC has no respect for the Spurs. They won the game and spanked the Lakers by 28 on the road, but who does Jim Gray interview first after the game? Kobe "I'm Crying on TV because I suck" Bryant. What's up with that? We lost and all, but dude, don't show your ignorance by saying Kobe sucks. He is still one of the three best players in the league. kobe sure as hell doesn't suck, but iverson, duncan & shaq (at the very least) are all better than he is. because they can command a team and be leaders. kobe proved in this series that he cannot. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Does anyone beside myself, bob barron and Johnson1620 see the Nets in the Finals? Where's the love? They'll more than likely get there, but they won't win, though. On Kobe and Fisher crying, I laughed my ass off for a good while(and yes, I *have* played competitive sports before, so don't pull out that tired excuse). I could understand if there some reasoning behind other than "We didn't get another chance to win a championship". Seriously though, fuck that noise, they won 3 in a row and therefore, have no business to be bawling like lil babies. I don't ever remember seeing NJ, Philly, or Indy have players crying after Shaq and Co. steamrolled them to win their 3 titles, so LA gets NO sympathy from me. Guest Luke Cage Report post Posted May 16, 2003 (edited) The way one acts during times of adversity says much more about individual character than one's behavior during good times. If certain Laker players didn't behave in such an obnoxious classless manner (disrespecting their opponents, total lack of humility) perhaps people wouldn't take such glee in their defeat.. being seen on national TV crying is no way for a champion to behave. Win OR lose. Having said that, it will be interesting to see how many bandwagon Laker fans rock purple and gold during the off season. It's easy to attach your ego to a winning sports team...let's see some support now that they have to wait until next year. Regarding Mr Duncan, he may not be Mr. Excitement on the mic, but one cannot equate all sports with pro wrestling. Edited May 16, 2003 by Luke Cage

Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I see the Pistons vs Nets in East Finals, it does not matter who faces the Spurs in the West as both the Kings and Mavs match up well against them.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I'm actually pulling for the 76ers to beat Detroit. We'll see if Van Horn shows up to play tonight. I think if they win game 6 then the series is theirs.

But they didn't get the fourth and that would have meant more then the third anyday, since nobady had done it in 30+ years.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I said the Nets and Suns in the preseason(I always pick the suns out west) with the Kings filling in for the Suns if they didn't make it. By mid season, I knew the Spurs were coming out the West if they didn't catch the suns in the first round. They caught them...and won(damn them) So I still see them in the finals. BUT The New Jersey Nets can beat ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE in a 7 game series. East/West, it doesn't matter. I know everyone has just been staring out west but secretly Jason Kidd has been god like. Kenyon Martin has been a superstar and Richard Jefferson has been amazing. Along with the rest of the team knowing thier role and doing it well, they are the team to beat in my eyes. And to say because they won 3 championships in a row that this one shouldn't have meant anything to them...that is crap. You have to remember, it has been nearly 4 years since they experienced a lost in the playoffs. These are guys that care about this game (as anyone that played sports and GAVE A SHIT IF THEY WON OR LOST) would know. Yes you saw other teams dropping tears after dropping to the Lakers...and yeah, the arrogance of some of the Laker players have brought alot of backlash. But they shed tears when they lost because they cared about the game and like it or not, they played their hearts out....well Shaq, Kobe and Derek Fisher did...they were the ones I saw crying and they had the right. they left it out on the court but lost to a better team. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I wouldn't say that. Slow them down by running a half-court game and the Nets are fucked.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Of the remaining teams... What games makes the Best Ratings FOR ABC? Spurs/Nets? San Antonio is a small market although N.J is large but S.A Vs N.Y drew small in 1999... Spurs/Pistons? This would go down as the lowest ever with no question since the teams are devoid of Personality and charisma... Spurs/Sixers? This could be a good draw, since Iverson is a major mainstream name and that always helps...Philly is a big market (bigger then the other three remaining east teams). Kings/Nets? Likely, It would be the best series and it could draw well. Kings/Pistons? Not very exciting to think off... Kings/Sixers? This would be a great draw and series... Mavs/Pistons? This would be akin to the Super bowl...Offense Vs Defense... Mavs/Nets? Kidd Vs Nash. That is great but does it appeal? Mavs/Sixers? THIS would be the most explosive series of all time perhaps and In my mind, would draw the best...

The NBA just isn't that popular at this moment. I don't see anyone matchup doing alot better than any other one.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I totally agree with you...I was just saying which series will draw best? It's obvious that Phila/Dallas would out draw Spurs/Pistons...

Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2003 The real question would L.A really done much difference? I think so... Because LA is either nationally loved or dispised and that is ALWAYS good for ratings but last year it was what 9.3 ave? So if the biggest team in NBA can't get a 10+ rating...How low will the Spurs go?
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I agree about the Lakers making a difference. Dynasties=Ratings.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Spurs vs Nets will draw on the Parker vs Kidd storyline of the possible trade talks in the off season. Can the young up and comer beat the veteran who is in his prime?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Why would casual fans care where a guy whose gonna get good bank anyways winds up Playing? How does that make those people want to watch...
Guest Bricks Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Game 7 of Lakers vs Kings last year drew about 40 million, so people are probably more associated with The Kings. And, the highest rated Finals of the last 3 years was the LA vs Philly one, where people got to know Allen Iverson. So, I'm thinking Kings vs Sixers would be the one for the ratings draw.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I def. See that being a Potential draw...Not as much as Dallas Vs Philly because after the Lakers...Mavs Nash and Nowitzki Jerseys are second highest selling and Iverson has a HUGE following... As long as Detroit and San Antonio aren't in the finals together...I doubt we'll see much decrease...
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted May 16, 2003 I'm hoping for Mavs vs. Nets and the first 300 point game. The West Finals will kick ass by the way. Of course we knew that in preseason
