More Bullshit From The Raiders

Recommended Posts

Guest MrRant

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have asked a judge to prevent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers from wearing their uniforms for games in California because they violate the Raiders' trademark rights.

The Raiders claim Tampa Bay's pirate logo is too similar to Oakland's. And the Raiders object to the Panthers' uniforms because two colors -- silver and black -- match those of the Raiders.

NFL spokesman Joe Browne said the issue is one of a handful that remain from a 1996 suit by the Raiders listing multiple grievances against the league. Some were transferred to courts in Los Angeles, where another Raiders case against the league is being fought.

Others already have been dismissed by Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge John Herlihy. He did not rule Tuesday on the Raiders' efforts to seek a court order against the NFL banning those uniforms in California.

Papers filed by the Raiders in the San Jose case say the Buccaneers' logo "is likely to dilute the distinctive quality of the Raiders' mark, thereby lessening its capacity to identify the Raiders and causing irreparable harm that cannot adequately be compensated by an award of damages.''

NFL attorneys argued there will always be overlap among logos and colors. One of them, James Hunt, said "Michigan could say any uniforms featuring predatory cats'' would be prohibited in that state, given that the Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars also have such animals in their logos.

Herlihy seemed sympathetic to the NFL's position.

If California tells Tampa Bay to wear a new uniform for games here, he said, then Florida might say "when the Raiders come to Florida, get that logo off your uniform,'' Herlihy said, suggesting the Raiders might "put a daisy on your uniform'' as an alternative to their pirate.

The Panthers had no comment on the suit.

Now I can somewhat understand them bitching about Tampa's uniforms.

What the fuck are they doing bitching about Carolina's? Carolina has black shirts with mainly tealish blue numbers and letters and a touch of silver...what's the problem.

Oh my god...

I can't believe the Raiders are bitching about something as minor as this.

It's really quite pathetic.

I despise the Raiders, and this just fuels my hate for the Raiders even more and gives me an excuse to say this:

Fuck the Raiders!

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

It's too bad all my favorite players are on the Raiders, because now the're all represented by Al Davis.

As cool as the Raiders are, without Al Davis, they would be like the coolest thing on earth.

This is actually old news as this came up with the Bucs debuted their new uniforms in '97. The Raiders are currently now involved in a trial about the NFL and the city of Oakland of essentially tricking them into moving back to Oakland. I shit you not. Raider fans continue to blindly support this moron as well even though he doesn't even respect their loyalty. Its like a beaten wife who keeps going back to their husband.

I will give them the Bucs...

Where does the Panthers have anything to do with this bullshit?

Who Cares anyways? Who WON the game? That's all that matters, Davis.

I'm not sure if you live in the Bay Area and read about this every day but I do. Here is the gist of the lawsuit. Oakland promised Al Davis that if they moved back to Oakland they would guarantee a sellout of every game in addition to adding luxury boxes etc. The Raiders fail to sellout half of their games each year despite being one of the better teams the last few years. Al is a business man first and foremost, so if you tell him you are going to do something and don't, he's going to come after your ass.

Ridiculous. You don't see the Eages suing the Falcons and Ravens, do you? Just because Al's team got its clock cleaned in the Super Bowl is no reason for this crass and quite childish behavior.

Come on now, it's not like the 'Raider Nation' thugs are gonna have a clue as to how much of a moron the team's owner really is.

This is just another example of Al Davis losing his grasp of reality. Hey Al, guess what, the Bucs bitch slapped your Raiders, get over it.

People the unifrom lawsuit talk started in '98 so it has nothing to do with the Super Bowl, not that it makes it any less ridiculous.

Yes I did live in the Bay Area all my life until last November and I was basically summing up that lawsuit. Yes I know the terms of it but Al Davis also outpriced his fans by having the most expensive tickets in the league and PSLs that weren't lifetime and that's why that hadn't been selling out. Al also under estimated how many people in the area said "fuck you" to the Raiders after they left Oakland the first time and didn't want them back. Al screwed himself in the end.

As much as I love the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders and as much good Al Davis done for the team recently, I wont shed tear when he finally steps down. The Raiders need some fresh blood in the front office and ownership. Al Davis right now, has to step down for the Raiders to move into the future.

This has nothing to do with the Super Bowl, like Bored said its been going on for 5 years. Its no secret the Davis and Taligabue hate each other with a passion. As a Raider fan in Los Angeles I feel that Taligabue interfered with The Raiders new Hollywood Park Stadium in essence making them move back to Oakland. But thats another issue.

You should then know that Al Davis has nothing to do with the tickets or the prices, hence his lawsuit. City of Oakland promised him sellouts. They in turn created Oakland Football Marketing Association to handle ticket sales. OFMA from day one has been a joke, I know, as I bought season tickets when they came back. They also set prices, etc. and have mishandled it from day one. Al and the Raiders have zero to do with marketing and selling of the tickets but as you can see they suffer when tickets aren't sold.
