A few years ago it was boybands and teenage female pop stars. And while they're still popular they're not the "in" thing. Pop/Punk had a little run and it's still popular. Most reciently it's been the whole dirty-garage-sounds-like-it-was-recorded-in-a-basement sound (White Stripes, Queens, Vines, Hives, Strokes). And somewhere in the middle of all that "Nu-Metal" with it's clever spelling was it.

I am feeling we're slowing Inching our way back towards Metal like the 1980's.

 

I expect a Surge of Bands Led By Shadows Fall and new Breed to bring us back to the way it was in 1987.

 

Will we see Spandex and Big Hair and Glam? No...We're coming into Post-War America and Weak Economy America and that would mean a changing of the guard in terms of our music...

 

The New Generation of Kids will become disinterested in the Nu-Metal rapcore styles...

 

Bands like Disturbed, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage will all lead the way...

 

Then the Metal Craze will split into two...

 

One Pop-Metal ala Glam Rock

and Just Plain Metal.

 

 

Rap is slowly returning to the Way it was in 1993. Wars are starting to formulate...

 

Aftermath Vs Murder Inc will become a Major blood war similar to East/West...only this time...It's legit heat.

Seriously after all of the lyical battles going on, using a DJ to pimp out the propraganda of a hip hop label is the next step for rappers. As they will migrate to appearing on TRL instead of 106 & Park to keep it real for the bottom line.

And if/when Shadows Fall becomes one of the top 10 highest selling bands in America...I will be there to laugh in the faces of those that think Of One Blood is their first album, going "you don't even know who their original singer was," and then remembering how fucking awesome it was when only 10 people in my town knew who the band was...

 

...yes, I will become an elitist fuckwad when my favorite band becomes huge.

 

But, I don't see that happening for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if psychobilly bands like Nekromantix become popular. The music is fun, well-crafted, and the lyrics are pointless horror movie fun. If Nekromantix can stay in the running long enough, they'll probably gather a cult following just a little less grand than the following for The Misfits.

Bubblegum pop will be back, it always jumps in and fills the void when whatever the big revolution is loses steam. There's about one of them every decade. I'm not sure what it's going to be, but it's going to be theatrical and extravagant.

I'd predict that Tiger Army would get bigger, faster than Nekromantix simply due to their association with the major label darlings AFI.
