News On Goldberg Overruling Booking In Second Raw Appearance

Posted By Widro on 04.17.03

Could backstage forces already be working against Goldberg?

Incredibly, the second appareance of Goldberg on Raw on April 7 was changed by Goldberg and the creative team after the show had been written.

During the show, Goldberg was booked to be beaten down by the Rock. This caused Goldberg to veto this booking, as if he is going to be taken seriously as a major threat, being beaten down in his second show, and his first not as a surprise, would make him look terribly weak.

While it was viewed as strange he would be booked that way, it did make a few waves that Goldberg was already getting involved with his booking.

Goldberg was in the right here. It would have been dumb for him to get beat down by the Rock in his second night back.

Yeah, still don't like the guy though.

I don't either, but that is not the way to use him and we need ANYBODY who can stand up to HHHitler.

Fuck Goldberg.

I hope HHH's ultimate veto eats him alive in the end.

I'm kind of hoping we do see HHH/Goldberg. That way Goldberg will injure HHH, and HHH will get Goldberg fired.

It's win-win.

So...Rock isn't supposed to get revenge? I see nothing wrong with that booking. If Rock can get speared and not 'look weak', then it should work just fine in reverse.

But that's probably because I hate Goldberg.

No.

Rock is already established in the WWE... Goldberg is not. They will not want to waste all of his momentum just so Rock can get his revenge.

Maybe the booking was the usual ? of sanity...but I seem to recall Goldberg taking out Rock in his first appearance...and I can guarantee he's going to win the match on the ppv...

so why can't Rock look strong once against Goldberg going in?

As the face shouldn't Goldberg be fighting to get back for something?

Well Rock is playing the cowardly heel so the only way he should "beat down" Goldberg is by way of sneak attack.

If Rock was booked to cleanly "beat down" Goldberg man to man, then no it wasn't proper booking.

Goldberg may be right this time, but it's only going to get worse.

Hey, if Goldberg vetos looking at all weak against the fucking Rock (the biggest star in the company)...we should be in for a nice long year of Goldberg never looking weak.

Hey...Now I know why people chant Goldberg at Brock.

He just needs to stroke his ego a little after getting punked by Jericho.

It is sad though, Goldberg takes out Rock in the first appearance, Rock runs away from Goldberg second appearance, third week Rock feigns being thousands of miles away from Goldberg because he is scared, yet Goldberg is afraid of looking weak by being jumped from behind from the top star in the industry.

I'd normally say Goldberg should be out on his ass but he was absolutely right. A guy being brought into the company with as much hype as him and being positioned for the push he's going to get shouldn't be laid out in his second week in the company, even if it's by The Rock.

This stinks of Trips' involvement, as he's already desperate for reasons not to job to Goldberg now that he's used him as an excuse not to job to Booker T.

I made a great picture for this thread, that would have made a few wince though there wasn't any nudity.

I took one of those pictures of 'Berg leaning over the ropes, making his funny faces, and Photoshopped in a male stripper behind him, appearantly, uh, at it back there. And "FUCK GOLDBERG" in giant letters.

And then my power went out before I could save it. God hates me. :(

Regardless, I think that FUCK GOLDBERG is the new Ban Agnes.

Not to offend you Yuna, but I find it exceptionally funny that a teenage, slash fiction writing girl has a better understanding of how angles are supposed to run than people that actually work in the business.

They wouldn't have to push Goldberg so freaking hard right now if they weren't slinging him right into the main event. If you want him to dominate Lance Storm the whole feud, fine... but this is THE ROCK.

So, everyone here has jobs "in the business". No? I didn't think so. I never said I had a better understanding of anything, I was simply stating my OPINION, just like everyone else.

And what the fuck does my writing preferences have to do with this thread at all?! Oh, wait, I forgot that it's apparently "cool" around here to judge me on that.

See, what I meant to imply was that you actually do have a better understanding of booking that people that get paid to do it have.

Why is everyone so upset by this? If you read the original post it said "being beaten down in his second show, and his first not as a surprise, would make him look terribly weak." I interpret this as saying that he had more of a problem with the "second show" and "not as a surprise" part. Sure, the Rock needs to get his revenge, but not on Goldberg's second appearance...and it sure as hell has to be a sneak attack. The Rock refused to face Austin face-to-face until PPV, and he's been running from Goldberg. In what alter-universe would it make sense for him to magically snap to and beat down Goldberg face-to-face??

If Goldberg put the veto on this, I'm glad. It makes sense. Rock will get his revenge, most likely the RAW before Backlash. And, it should be a sneak attack with a foreign object. That would be the proper way to set up the match, and in a way that both men seem to be serious threats.

Anvil, I think the "not as a surprise part" meant Goldberg's first show that wasn't a surprise. Rock still could have sneak attacked him.

Goldberg could veto the Rock beat down, but he couldn't stop the beat down Jericho gave him backstage at that show.

Shit, I hope next week they make him suck the Rock's dick.

Get rid of this piece of crap. I feel dirty for taking the Rock's side in anything.

Agreed. This is a classic HHH power-play situation. Bury Golberg until he's not over and then use his unoverness to reneg on his promise to job the belt to him. The situation doesn't look to good for Golberg, as he's in a catch-22 position:

If he lets the WWE (through HHH's machinations) bury him, HHH will use it to get out of jobbing the belt to him. If he stands up for himself, he'll piss off Vince and give HHH the leverage he needs to reneg on jobbing to Golberg.

And the idea of bringing in Sting is another strike against Golberg, as I can see Vince being willing to fire/job out Golberg the minute Golberg starts rocking the boat and standing up for himself on the grounds that he can simply plug Sting into Golberg's spot.
