When ALL of your freakin hype is on a battle of guys in their 50's, and one isnt even a wrestler you're not gonna get a good buyrate. IT seems that Vince always has to be involved at Wrestlemania, either in a match or run in......You guys may hate HHH, and Goldberg, but at least they're performers. Instead of a guy who can barely get off the air for a legdrop anymore and a guy who isnt even on the roster. They need to get their shit straight NOW or else next yeras mania will draw a .35

Those matches were pushed as the main events and drew the strong buyrate. Angle v. Benoit wasn't hyped up to the level of the other two matches so it probably did not affect the buyrate at all.

 

I wouldn't be suprised if WM didn't do that well this year because they didn't hype it around a wrestling match, they hyped it on a 'sports-entertainment' spectacular. And as the rating have shown for things like the Rock concert- the fans prefer wrestling

This low buyrate is not surprising at all. I was expecting 600,000, but the only people really shocked is the WWE. They were probably expecting around 700,000 (though the idiots told their investors to expect 850,000, the same as last year).

I said centering the show around Hogan v. Vince was a bad idea. I don't think the show was "ruined" as you put it. He still sold out Safeco Field and made a killing at Fan Axxess.

 

The show did a dissapointing buyrate because Vince centred it around the wrong match but I wouldn't say the show was ruined

That makes zero sense as Hogan/Vince was just as much a wrestling match as HHH/Steiner, if not moreso. The latter was very much centered around "sports-entertainment" skits, so to say that the fans 'prefer wrestling' is not only jumping to conclusions, but supports Angle/Benoit as well.

EDIT: And Bob, you can bet your ass that the buyrate for the Rumble would have been MUCH lower if that Angle/Benoit match hadn't gone on. You make it sound as if you can attribute ALL of the buys to Steiner/Trips and the Rumble match. While the Rumble match always draws very well (and with good reason, I love it too), you can't totally discount the Smackdown side of things.

I think had they hyped it around Brock v. Angle they could've done a bit better

 

And ratings for things like The Rock Concert (Which bombed) shows that the fans would rather watch wrestling.

 

The hype for the Rumble was around a 60 minute battle royal and HHH v. Steiner- two wrestling matches, one a "dream" match.
