Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I'm writing a short story for my English class about an older wrestler and an up and coming wrestler on the road and today we had other students critique our work in progress. This one girl, nice girl too, after reading my story said first "Is Pro Wrestling fake". I was stunned for 5 seconds before I responded. I mean, I can understand someone not being familiar with the sport if they don't watch, but I thought it was common knowledge that it wasn't totally legit. But like I said, she's a nice girl and I'm not trying to make fun of her. It just caught me off gaurd hearing that.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Wow. That would catch me off guard, too. What did you say to her?
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Well, I finally said...uh yeah it's fake (though I hate using that word). She said that's cool, cause my story was pulling back the curtain. I say my story is an excuse to use words like mark, sell, job, stiff, work, 'boys', card, spot, etc.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted April 18, 2003 The same thing happened to me last night while watching SD. I just told her that yes, the outcome of the matches is predetermined, but they do get hurt by the moves, though not as much as it appears.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted April 18, 2003 You should've just asked this deep-ass rhetorical question like "In this world can we actually tell what's real?" and watched it fuck her up royally. I ignore people that ask those questions though. Regardless of your answer they're never satisfied.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I never say it's fake. If somone asks me that, I just say that it's entertainment, physical entertainment. I hate using the word fake, it makes it sound like anyone could do it and that people don't or can't get hurt.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I just say the results are pre-determined.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I say my story is an excuse to use words like mark, sell, job, stiff, work, 'boys', card, spot, etc. * * has flashbacks to the Scotsman "Letters to Scott Keith" article where 'Scott' was using insider terms to talk about sex. * * Just tell her you'll give her examples of the terms in bed. "I'll stiff you when I break your hymen," "You'll be doing a job to my dick because you're swallowing," "When I'm done with you, the 'boys' will be getting sloppy seconds," "Come on, I didn't donkey punch you that hard. It was worked," etc. The possibilities are endless.
Guest evilhomer Report post Posted April 21, 2003 You should've just asked this deep-ass rhetorical question like "In this world can we actually tell what's real?" and watched it fuck her up royally. I ignore people that ask those questions though. Regardless of your answer they're never satisfied. The argument I use is that it's real, real entertainment. You watch men running around, shooting blanks at each other, staging huge explosions and choreographing fight scenes. I watch men rolling around on a mat performing carefully choreographed moves to reach a predetermined conclusion. This either goes way over their heads, or I get the great rebuttal "wrestling is stoopid."
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I just say it's a physical soap opera with better acting.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I just say it's a physical soap opera with better acting. That's debatable...*WINK*
Guest notJames Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I call it the "violent ballet"; all the moves are staged, but people still get hurt out there.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Could of responded with something like "Yes, Pro Wrestling is fake but Olympic and MMA is real"
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Report post Posted April 27, 2003 On 'The Unreal History of Pro Wrestling', this one guy explained it really well: "If you call wrestling fake, you're faulting it for something it's not supposed to be. Would you call a perfomance of 'Hamlet' fake?"
Guest AM The Kid Report post Posted April 27, 2003 I get that alot, pisses me off because I refuse to call it fake. Most of the time I'm like "yeah...but...well ya see...grr...nevermind".
