With the NBA, I rarely see a good fashioned playoff rivalry built

Lakers vs Kings

Lakers vs Spurs

I also like that with the NBA you are seeing some of the best athletes in the world compete.

But from 1979 to 1999, you saw THE best athlete in the world compete.

But Jordan didn't start playing til 84...

:P

NBA hands down, I can't get into Hockey, It takes too long for a NHL game to get going and its like soccer on ice to me. NBA is exciting especially the games during the weekend, what five players scored 40 or more points.

Lakers vs Celtics was a good rivalry. That was 20 years ago though.

All things considered, I'll take the National Lacrosse League playoffs over the NBA playoffs anyday. GO ROCK!!

Most points in basketball are inconsequential. Goals are only relevant in the last seconds. Hell, the announcers don't even mention some baskets made.

In hockey, one goal can mean the difference between an incredible comeback throughout the game and into the next on the way to a Stanley Cup and elimination. When Modano scored on the Oilers with 3 minutes left in the third, you just knew the coffin was just nailed shut.

The NBA Playoffs will suck as long as the Lakers are still alive and the refs are cheating and stealing wins for them.

when i took that little survey, i was actually surprised on how many people actually prefer hockey over basketabll

Yeah considering how poor the NHL TV ratings are compared to the NBA.

It's simply because it's the trendy thing to say. Oh yeah, Stanley Cup playoffs, I watch them every year. If every person that claimed to love the Stanley Cup Playoffs actually WATCHED them they'd be the highest rated sporting event ever.

I went with the NHL. Just more exciting. Nothing beats overtime. And nothing beats five overtimes like the Ducks and Stars went to last night(or actually this morning).

I'm a Flyers fan and I still stayed up to watch all of that one. Just one errant pass, a wrong bounce of the punk off the boards, off a player's skate, and it could be over.

And there's none of that terrible refereeing(see Lakers vs. T'Wolves from last night, as well - which I watched the four quarter of after the Ducks/Stars, and went to bed instead of watching overtime, thankfully the Wolves won). In the NHL, they pretty much let them play when it's in overtime.

Plus, I'm just amazed at how they can even play hockey. How they handle the puck. The soft touch passes. The hard shots. The improbable saves. Just amazing.

Well, this is just the internet. Look at all the Buffy and Angel fans(hell, even wrestling fans). It's not a matter of "if everyone who said they watched (insert whatever) actually watched it, then it'd have huge ratings". The internet isn't close to a majority of people(especially just the people off this board). The general public prefers shit like American Idol and Michael Jackson specials and what-have-you(those and CSI, which is a GREAT show).

So... yeah. I think there was a point in there.

I think people flip past it for about 20 seconds and go "Wait, this is HOCKEY!, God No!" and change it back to E! True Hollywood Stories: Andrew Dice Clay
