Should I sue the WWE?

Recommended Posts

Guest Coffey

I just recently got in contact with one of my friends from the past via e-mail. We lost contact over the years do to conflicting interests. I've always been really big into wrestling and he never was. I watch wrestling. Talk about wrestling. Post on message forums about wrestling and play tons of wrestling video games. I never really realized how big a part of my life it was until he pointed it out like that.

I don't have a job. So, all day long all I do is post on wrestling related message forums. I'm up to 5-6 of them now.

Now, the topic title was a joke, but with all the lawsuits in the past like people sueing McDonald's for the coffee being too hot and people suing fast food for making them fat, it actually doesn't seem to illogical nowadays. LOL! Not like I would seriously even consider doing so.

Still though, it did make me realize how big an impact wrestling has had on me.

Maybe now I realize what people are talking about when they say that you should grow out of watching wrestling.

Yes...yes you should

If you win, then I'll proceed to sue them myself.

Or we could blackmail them.

"Either you give us 1 Billion dollars....

OR...

Give us a quality wrestling product~!"

Sadly though, we all know which one Vince would choose.

I only started in 99, so I'll take a small settlement.

So...what I'm thinking...we get together a group big enough to take 3/4's of Vince's money.

Vince will then be forced to either shut down or release alot of talent. Knowng Vince he'll release everyone good and keep the cheaper hosses.

We start our own wrestling company, hire all the guys fired from WWE and form a partership with NWATNA and Ted Turner. Then we put Vince out of business by using money to steal any decent wrestlers he has left.

I've been watching since 84 so I would get a fat check! Of course I'm satisfied watching sexy hosses wrestle so I can't really complain.

You've done all of this by your free will.

Same with the 'McDonalds made me fat' stuff.

This would easily get tossed out of court, but think of the media attention it would recieve! WWE sued by their own fans? Media would have a field day with this!

And to be brutally honest, it might actually serve as a good wake-up call to Vince. I doubt it, but it might.

I'd like to get in on this, but sadly, I did not even have a life before I got into wrestling.

In the US you can sue for anything. It would be more wise to sue them for the Vengeance 2001 deal (still have time to do that) where they advertised HHH and he didn't wrestle.

Doesn't 'card subject to change' prevent you from being able to sue?

There is only so much "card subject to change" can do - it has to be within reason. They advertised the "vengeance" show for months and had HHH all over it...but just delivered a video package. That's false advertising. That's misleading the fans and people who would buy the show - people paid to see HHH get his "vengeance" and he didn't. That is a fundamental reason for them to buy a PPV.

I'd HATE to have to sue for NOT having HHH on the card. Especially, on the same show Chris Jericho won the Undisputed Title in.

The WWE will win once they prove that you never had a life in the first place.

Only because the WWE took away our childhood! Those years could've been used to decide what direction to head in life!

I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on tv so don't take my word as final, but

Unless they are giving an absolute guarantee that a performer will be at a show, they don't have to deliver. "Card subject to change" covers them in the event of any no-show. Sort of like how in baseball, a Cinncinati season ticket holder can't sue the team because Griffey Jr. isn't playing. There are factors beyond the promoters control, and they can't be held responsible for them.

The Vengeance ads were misleading but they were not false advertising. They didn't explicitly state that HHH would be at the show, wrestling fans were just led to believe this. And like Nelson on the Simpsons, Vince pointed at us all and gave a "Ha Ha!" when we realized we got ripped off.

So the only recourse for pissed off fans is to not buy tickets or PPV's. Hmmm, what are the latest buyrates anyways. Think Vince will ever catch on?

You should sue WWE because everyone else is. Maybe they'll finally get tired of the negative publicity and the shareholders asking why they can't seem to avoid getting sued, and just settle out of court with you.

I'm in the same boat, WWE needs to be stopped before it ruins other innocent lifes.

I watch wrestling, but I never followed wrestling on a consistent basis. There have been three instances in which I have stopped watching. One was from about 91-92 (forgot why, a bit young). The second one was from about 92-96, in which I barely watched anything that wasn't a major ppv. That's four years in which I was phased out of wrestling. From 1996 until the summer of 2002 I watched pretty consistently, then i left until January of 2003, but ever since then I've watched, at best, sporadically. The court would throw this case out before the actual trial (in the arraignment), but it would make for a lot of media coverage ("Fans sue WWE for mistreatment"), and that would definitely make Vince notice.

But the factors WERE in Vince's control. They could have easily had HHH run in on a match.

The Vengeance ads were misleading but they were not false advertising. They didn't explicitly state that HHH would be at the show, wrestling fans were just led to believe this.

Having HHH on a poster that says "vengeance" and then talking about him getting revenge is explicit enough.

So the only recourse for pissed off fans is to not buy tickets or PPV's. Hmmm, what are the latest buyrates anyways. Think Vince will ever catch on?

Yes, he will... when the WWE is dead.

Actually, you're wrong. Look up the false advertising laws.

I started watching both WWF and WCW in '94. In '96 I watched mostly WCW because the WWF was kinda stupid at the time. In '97 I got back into the WWF and watched both again. Then I went to college and hardly watched wrestling at all, except during the summer. I watched mostly WWF during '98 cause that's all my roommates really watched and I went back to only seeing it in the summer and winter breaks from '99 - '01. Once I graduated I've watched regularly.

I chatted on WWF.com chat for awhile and even wrote a wrestling column for awhile. Then I started posting on TheSmarks ezboard around late '01.

For Vengeance yes, but I was talking in general. If someone breaks an ankle the day before a PPV, they can't exactly throw them out there. "Card subject to change" covers this eventuallity.

Like Jago said, technically it's not false advertising. Every possible assumption you could make would be to have HHH make some kind of appearance and Vengeance, but the key word there is assumption. They didn't specifically advertise that HHH will make a live appearance, so they didn't have to deliver.

It's all about Vince going for one big buyrate and not giving a shit about who he pissed off. In his defence, a HHH run-in would be tough to do (Jericho was going over, and HHH couldn't attack a face), and they wanted his big return to be on Raw, but hey, how about keeping that in mind and not leading fans to believe he'll be at the PPV. The few extra buys that they got from people wanting to see HHH have been lost many times over since then by fans who tuned off because they got ripped off.
