Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 22, 2003 First off, I MUCH prefer the real DVD or real CD. My problem however, is that I'm not a total fan of say, Hard Rock. There might be a band, who I like maybe one or two of their songs. Now I don't know about you, but I really don't feel that comfortable paying $15 just for one song. If these were all able to be bought on singles, I'd just buy them. What I do, is take a bunch of bands who I ONLY like maybe one or two songs by, and but them all on a CD which ends up with maybe 20 or so songs on it. With my doing this, I'm not actually taking away any music from the artists and the such. My reason, is that if I couldn't do this myself, then I just wouldn't have their music in the first place. Hell, I've done this for years, even before CD burners. I used to keep a tape in my radio, and would record the songs off of the radio, and just make a custom tape, nothing has changed in my eyes. As for films that I download that are still in the theater, I only do that with films that either aren't going to be playing ANYWHERE near me, or films that aren't in the theater yet. When I do this, I almost always end up buying the DVD of said film (just like I will be picking up One Hour Photo soon, and just like I'll be picking up The Hours and Chicago when they are released). When I watch a film (like House of 1000 Corpses) that isn't in the theater yet and I can watch it early, I do so, but when it IS released near me, I just buy a ticket for said film and just don't go watch it. As I said, I somewhat do not agree with this the way some people do it. I do NOT download entire albums that I would want to buy, I just go buy it if I know I'll enjoy it. I'd much rather have the actual CD than a copy of it. I also would NEVER buy, or sell, a burned CD of any sort. I'll burn CD's for people, like I've done with wrestling matches and the such, but I NEVER ask for money in return, I am not comfortable with that at all. I do burn Dreamcast games, but I do NOT burn off PS2 games, XBox games, PSX games. My reasoning there is that Sega has given up on the Dreamcast and the such totally, so it doesn't really matter all that much, but hell, maybe that just makes me a hypocrite, lol. There is my rant, heh. Sincerely, ...Downhome...

Besides, an early show here where I live is only like $3.50, so I figure what the hell.

Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Besudes personal preference for the packaging or whatever, you souldn't feel bad about burning entire albums. Bands get virtually no money from album sales anyway.

Bands get virtually no money from album sales anyway. It isn't the bands I'm worried about, becase I know full and well that basicly every artist/band of every genre, basicly gets NOTHING from album sales. Where my problem is, is with the songwriters and the such.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2003 We're not talking about that, IDRM. We think Downhome is crazy for downloading a movie, then buying a ticket for it that he doesn't use because he feels bad. Dames
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted April 22, 2003 I just think he's crazy in general. This sort of compounds it, though. I'm getting a vision of some guy who looks kind of like Dusty Rhodes walking up to the box office, asking "One for the Lizzie Maguire movie, please," and then just turning away and walking back to his car with a big, mildly frightening grin. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Yeah, that's crazy, I was just making a point that seemed appropriate to the thread. I tell people that all the time. As for movies... what you should do DH, old pal, if you feel that bad, is buy the ticket, go in the theater, but see a different movie. See the most popular movie in the theater. $3.50 will mean nothing to them.

The Dames 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Personally, this is what I see. A guy who looks like a balding David Arquette walks up to a ticket window and hands him three fitty. He walks back to his car when his cell phone rings. "Who is this?" ...Click. He throws the cell phone down, starts stomping and kicking at it, yelling about telemarketers....goes back in the car, rips up the ticket and drives back home. The End. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted April 22, 2003 I don't usually have the patience to watch movies on my computer. The only times I do is if I saw a movie in the theater and it was so good that I wanted to see it again. OR if I was looking to see a movie, but never found the time to see it with my friends. So instead of going by myself I download it. Music is a completly different story. I burn whole CDs whenever I can.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 22, 2003 But if you're gonna throw your money away why not give it to a charity or something? And buy buying a ticket to a movie- aren't you possibly preventing someone from seeing the film?
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Hmm..I have a funny view on this. If you are willing to pay the money to go see a movie, but don't because you already saw it for free by downloading it, why not just grow a little bit of patience and wait for the movie to come out? If you are going to end up paying the price to see the movie, why not enjoy the benefits that come with seeing it in the theatre (sound, big picture, etc.) instead of esentially paying for a crappy version that you download?
