Guest ManKinnd Report post Posted April 30, 2003 Ki/Dragon from the Round Robin tournament was ***** from where I sit (tm JR), with severly awesome build and storyline. As for you, YouthNAsia, do people need to jump off 20 foot ladders through tables to not bore you? This match was matwork at its absolute best, even better than most of Angle/Benoit beginning spots, because it played a part in the match. If it bored you, fine, but you still need to understand that was you saw was fine pure wrestling. It's like reading a classic book for school, if you hate it, that's ok, but you won't win an argument saying it's terrible, you just need to accept it for what it is. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted April 30, 2003 Don't get pissy with me cause the match didn't give me the same boner it gave you. I just wasn't as impressed as everyone else was. In some cases less is more for me. I'll rewatch the match in a few days.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 30, 2003 The thing about American Dragon's matwork is that even though he's working holds a great majority of the time, he's always ... ALWAYS... doing something to either sell the hold or setting up an escape. The guy is flat out awesome in that regard to the extent that I haven't seen anyone approach him on that level in quite a long time (maybe Regal during his WCW TV Title run). There's very little sitting there with Dragon, and that's what draws me into his matches.
Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted April 30, 2003 The ROH Low-ki Vs American Dragon match was fairly daft for me as they worked a pretty good subs match and then turned it into CZW style spot fest halfway through defeating the object of the previous half hour. Then they throw in a token submission finish at the end. Try and get hold of the JAPW submissions match from July last year. They work a better match without resorting to highspots to pop the crowd and work a logical and very enjoyable match based on submissions only. The four way iron man match from ROH 5 is worth a mention. Somewhat spotty at times but Daniels and Williams hold the thing together well and they manage to pull of an hour long match that keeps your interest throughout. I just finished "Road to the Title" a few days ago Ditto. In fact Ive just seen up to the bunkhouse brawl, which I thought was shite! The commentators absolutley wet themselves over that match, they compare it to CZW's and XPW's ultraviolence, but its just plain crap if you ask me. Ive heard you guys talk about Homicides singles push, but I cant see how thats gonna be succesful, because he does nothing for me as a tag wrestler. ChUnK! This match used one of my favorite formulas for a wrestling affair: Two men try to outwrestle the other, using various submissions and smart, but generic holds and moves. After a while, thought, frustration sets in and they just start laying in the high impact moves to try to finish the other off. This was the story to Misawa/Kawada 94, Eddie/Edge from SD, and many lucha matches like Rey/Psychosis or Pillman/Lyger (to a lesser extent). This time, however, Dragon was able to go back to a submission after the high impact stuff didn't work either, and that time it did work, and LowKi tapped. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Homicide the singles wrestler is worlds above Homicide the tag wrestler- Boogalou was weighing him down. If you see Glory by Honor you really get the full effect of how good he is.

Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted May 3, 2003 Token submission finish? That's American Dragon's FINISHER. It what he uses to finish matches. It's his favourite hold, and his most effective. I don't see how you can call it a token submission finish, as if it was just tossed in so the match would end on a submission. That's his move - That's how he ends matches. That's just how it is. And yes, I do believe it was a slight variation he used, but that's no different then Low-Ki using a Super Ki-Krusher as opposed to a normal one. It's still his finish, just a slightly different one. Guest permagrinning Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Ki vs Dragon was fuckin boring! I can deal with submission matches but they slowed it down way too much. dude, you bitch about that but it's gotta be one of the coolest displays of mat wrestling I've seen. They don't just sit there and huff. They actually make the submissions look painful and lead to a purpose.
