"So near, so close... something bad is seen, but I seem to be the only that can see...

And they... the others, they don’t know a thing of what’s next, but I’m not here to say what should be done about this.

I just lift my eyes to watch..."

A deep grey mist surrounds all in this numbing cold. The moon that floats peacefully above our faithful planet is afraid to show it’s light, afraid of what it might see on the earth below tonight in Anchorage, Alaska. The clouds in the heavens release their gift to the world and a light shower of water hits the earth... a depression falls upon the people in this land and the depression is about to get heavier.

“Good evening, sir. Welcome to Anchorage Waterside Seafood, what can we get for you tonight?”

Smoke wafts through the air in front of the waiter, and in an attempt to clear the smoke from the air he waves his arm around violently. Watching the disgusted waiter is one Markus Cirillo (known to most as Crow, the newly crowned SJL World Champion) who casually sits in his chair, lit cigarette in left hand and glass of red wine in the other. Markus smirks and continues reading the menu...

“A large serving of crumbed calamari would do quite well, thank you.”

“Very good, sir. Have you decided on a wine?”

“Hmm... No I have not, but just bring me the most expensive in the house. I feel like celebrating.”

“Very well, your wine and meal shall be brought to you shortly.”

The waiter turns away and walks back inside the restaurant, leaving the Antichrist Superstar alone once again. He brings the lit cigarette up to his mouth and draws the smoke back into his lungs... an exhale and Crow sits back in his chair with his own thoughts. Part of him is content with the fact that he is now the Smartmarks Junior League World Champion... but there is still something in his life... which isn’t complete. Markus’ thoughts turn into unpleasantness, and the dark man’s face becomes troubled.

There is a great emptiness in my heart, and here I sit alone, all alone on this night where I should be with my loved ones and celebrating my achievement. Why did she have to leave me... why did she leave my arms for another? Was I not good enough for her? Hell... am I not worthy of being loved by anyone? Everyone I cared for is gone... or has turned their back against me. I do not know why I despair in my moment of glory, but ever since Adam died... I’m haunted.

Crow takes a look around... there is nobody sitting at the tables beside him, they are all inside the restaurant... in the warmth of heaters. Yet Markus sits under the sheltered dining area on the outside, and the cold breeze gushes through his hair as he gazes out into the water, its stillness is frightening.

A wise man once said, if you have no one... no one can hurt you. However, if you have no one, no one can provide you with happiness, and the joys of love and friendship. What would you do? Eliminate the chance of pain and agony, or eliminate the chance of love and happiness? I would suffer through endless torment and agony just for another chance, just another chance at finding love again.

“Just one more chance...”

The Antichrist Superstar sits quietly, thinking and murmuring to himself before the voice of the waiter breaks his trance.

“Your wine, sir.”

“Oh, thank you.”

“Can I get you anything else while you wait for your meal?”

“No no, I’m quite content with just the wine, thanks.”

The waiter hastily returns inside, the frosty weather sending chills down his spine, and once again, Crow is left alone. The rain stops, and the light clattering noise ceases in the background. Markus gazes into the water once again, but this time... someone is obstructing his view into the water. It is a woman, clad in a long black dress... her black hair blossoms gracefully as the wind blows her strands apart. Markus’ eyes adoringly gaze upon her slender figure and beautiful hair, his eyes grow wider as she turns around and faces the breeze, thus letting her hair flail gently in the air.

“My god...”

Who is that? Never before have I seen someone so... perfect. Her face is gentle, her skin shines in the moonlight... is this a dream?

The woman looks over towards the restaurant and catches Markus looking at her with puppy dog eyes, she smiles at him but quickly turns back to look into the water - not sure what to think of him. She clutches at the railing and bites her lip, she’s a little cautious...

“Peaceful... isn’t it?”

The slow, mysterious voice of Crow causes the maiden to jump and hastily turn around to face him, she half expects him to grab her violently but no, he just gently smiles as he looks into her eyes. The raven-haired girl struggles to construct a reply, but eventually manages to whisper...

“Yes it is...”

Markus moves beside her and clutches at the railing, almost immediately she jerks away from him... Markus turns his head and looks at her.

“Hey now...you have no reason to be afraid, I’m not going to hurt you... my name is Markus... what’s yours?”

She looks up at Crow, but then turns her head back down... not wanting to make eye contact with him.

“...my name’s Jessica...”

Jessica’s voice is weak, and a fear of the unknowing can be detected...

“Jessica? That’s a beautiful name...”

Crow stops... he’s dumbfounded, he doesn’t know what to say... he’s nervous... but he’s never nervous when talking to the opposite sex. There’s something about this girl, just something about her... Markus opens his mouth to speak, but is stopped by the waiter standing next to his table.

“Your meal is ready, sir!”

Markus looks over and nods, then he looks back at Jessica.

“Would you like to join me?”

Jessica looks up and a hint of a smile appears on her face as she sees that Crow is blushing...

“No thanks... ”

She turns her head and looks into the water one more time.

“Something else calls my name.”

Markus nods and walks back to his table, where he sits down and begins to eat. His eyes cast over often to see Jessica, who stands looking out into the water... but one time, he looks over... and she’s gone.

... Usually I blow off chicks like her... the ones who don’t speak openly to me, I usually hate that... but there’s something about her... something I can’t take myself away from... my only hope is that I see her again.

Time passes... and Crow has left the restaurant and is on his way home in his car. He drives his car into his driveway and hops out, grabbing his SJL World Heavyweight Title Belt on the way out. Markus can sense something bitter in the air, but he quickly shrugs it off... he just wants to go to sleep in his warm and comforting bed. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet (which has keys attached to it) and finds his front door key. Crow walks up the steps leading to his porch and stands in front of the door...

...

The door is open... only slightly, but it’s opened.

What the hell!? I locked this fucker before I left.

Markus cautiously and slowly pushes the door open... it’s pitch black inside... he quickly sneaks over to his candelabrum and lights it up with his lighter. The candles illuminate a small section of his living room and Crow looks around...

No... no...

...To see every single piece of furniture broken...

Fuck! What the hell has happened!?

...He runs further into the living room and sees holes in his walls... and he runs straight into his bedroom to see his desk thrown over onto the ground and every possession smashed. Crow’s guitar has been smashed against the wall and broken into pieces... the box full of marijuana has been burnt to pieces... and his photos of he and Adam have been burnt to a crisp, the memories begin to fade.

Oh my god... who did this? WHY!? WHO THE FUCK DID THIS!?

Markus kneels down besides the photos and hovers the candelabrum over them... he sees a photo of him and Natasha... half burnt. His mind flashes back to a long time ago...

***

Crow breaks the lock and bursts through the door into Adam’s apartment - it is the epitome of pigsty. Chairs are thrown everywhere... broken, scattered all around the room. Shards of shattered glass lie on the floor next to the window... Crow walks over it and looks out. He begins to worry as he frantically looks around the wrecked apartment... he stops at the table where a photo of Crow and Adam used to stand. The frame has been smashed and in front of it lies the photo...

Adam’s half has been burnt off and only Crow remains...

***

Crow hears a noise and he quickly turns around to see it... but nothing can be seen... he turns his attention back to the photo and picks it up on the floor. On the front of the photo a message is scrawled across Natasha’s body...

“There’s a darkness coming... and it’s calling your name...”

Crow flips the photo over...

“...Markus.”

...

"I saw it coming... something bad, I saw it coming... something bad...

...A darkness coming."

Man, he gets the world title, and the whiny bitch is still miserable. There's just no pleasing some people.

On a more serious note, good promo. I don't think it's your best work, though... I think it was the dialouge that didn't do it for me. Crowe has always struck me more as gritty and cool, opposed to sensitive and waxing the poetic every time he speaks. Definitely not the kind of guy to be the LEAST bit polite to waiters, either way. :D

Outside of that, it progresses your storyline. Now just keep them coming, keep the story rolling at regular intervals, and you're golden.

Thank you muchly, Z. Your comments are always the best (no offense to anyone else, of course :) ) and I really needed some ones that stuck it to me. I agree with you on your comments that this is not my best work, after posting it and reviewing it the day following it just didn't have "it" in my opinion. Plus, I probably should cut down on poetic bullshit when Crow's thinking... it does sound a bit too melodramatic for the style of character. I just write like that cause.. well, I like bullshitting. :D

Very nice work, Crow. You create atmosphere as well as anyone around here can.
