Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 15, 2003 I can't wait for the "I was disapointed" posts. I can see them coming from a mile away. Sure it might be a good movie, but its not going to live up to all the hype and expectations...
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 16, 2003 Hate to say I told you guys so, but I told ya'll motherfuckers. Warner Bros. has set a new opening day box office record with the mega-hyped sci-fi sequel The Matrix Reloaded which on Thursday grossed an astounding $42,475,000, according to estimates, from 3,603 theaters. The remarkable tally included grosses from Wednesday night previews from 2,750 theaters, or about three-fourths of the total playdates. That was enough to beat the previous record set last year by Spider-Man which grossed $39.4M on its opening Friday but also included Thursday night previews. Matrix is rated R and began its previews at 10pm while Spider-Man was rated PG-13 and started its previews at 12:01am. Warner Bros. is not separating the Wednesday night preview gross from the total, but according to industry trade papers the figure is estimated to be in the vicinity of $10M. The incredible $42.5M tally also outgunned the $30.1M opening day of Star Wars Episode II which, like Reloaded, opened on Thursday of this week last year with night-before previews.
