The *Official* X2 Hype thread!

Personally I was surprised they didn't use Sinister for this movie. They could easily work him in and personally I thought he'd be more interesting then Stryker, though Stryker was a better villain then I orignally thought.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

Apocalypse had ALL the good lines.

I hope they work him in at some point, because Mags can't be the Big Bad in like 9 consecutive movies.

ps - get Cable in there too. But not Bishop. fuck no.

Just came back from the movie, and let me tell you guys, it would be a crime not to see it. X2 totally lived up to all the hype, and was leaps and bounds better then the first one.

Striker certainly surprised me, as he came off as a great, ruthless villain, even if he was totally different from the comic book character.

Magneto is cool, calm, collected. A "classy" villain, if you know what I mean. And his trusty sidekick, Mystique, is as hot as ever, and even deadlier. Magneto's escape from prision was specially good.

Let me tell you, this isn't "The Wolverine Show" as X-Men I was. This movie really highlights almost the entire team, including newcomer Nightcrawler. And watch out for some cameo appearances by some fan favorites, including a recently deceased one. Some were under-utilized, like Rogue (which I didn't mind) and Cyclops (although near the end I felt he delivered his scene quite well. You'll know when you watch it). And I think Iceman is the next character to be highlighted more in the next film.

Without spoiling anything, I think I can reveal that there are casualties on the team. But if they can follow on the circumstances regarding this (and believe me, they SHOULD), then what we have in store for X3 is nothing short of unbelievable.

If I were giving stars, I'd give ****3/4 out of five. That's how strongly I feel about this movie. And if it doesn't do a shitload of money at the box-office (and I'm talking about $200-$250 million territory here) then there is no justice in the world.

Marvel's streak of great pictures continues in 2003, and I hope "Hulk" doesn't dissapoint either.

Go watch the movie as soon as you can. And if you like it (I know you will) watch it again and again. I know I'll repeat a couple more times at least.

Don't read if you don't like spoilers...

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Well if they're gonna do the Phoenix thing, as is supposedly hinted at, I'd rather they use Sinister as the villain at some point then. And though I'd prefer NEVER to see Apocalypse anyway, due to the one-dimension character he has as Kahran mentioned, I definitely think Sinister has to be used at some point before him.

I would see it tonight, but I'm going to a RAW House Show so I have to wait until tomorrow. Ebert liked it (he didn't like the first one) so that's a good sign at least. He is usually pretty accurate when you compare his ratings for films in the same genre.

My thoughts on it....spoiler and non-spoiler alike.

First off, right now this is the BEST comic book movie I've ever seen. Spider who? Incredible what? It has an incredible amount of backstory for a movie that is mainly action-oriented. Every single character is given their moment to shine, some more then others.

Now, for those who've seen it or just want to get their shit spoiled for them, here we go.......

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Wolverine KILLLLLLLS~! YOU in this fucking movie! KILLS! I'm talking stab, slash and gutting DEATH! His fight with Deathstrike had me cringing 'cause they go fucking balls out with the stabbage. I loved it. And so will you. But, the two mutants who steal this flick are PYRO~! and NIGHTCRAWLER~!. Nightcrawler was done to 100% perfection, from the crucifix to the tail to the teeth to the blue smoke. Kudos to Allan Cumming for taking one of my favorite characters and making him into a perfect reality. Now.....onto Pyro. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. This boy is a DICK~!. Harry Knowles at AICN said in his review that we can "see something horrible in Pyro's heart" and I 100% agree. Line of the movie: "You know all those bad mutants you see in the news? I'm the worst one". The sheer sadistic bliss on his face when he sets cops on fire had me jumping up and down in my seat. He's gonna make a nice apprentice for Magneto in X3 and I await the Fire vs Ice showdown between him and Bobby in X3 with baited breath. And the Pheonix? Chills down me spine.....can't fucking wait for X3.

Overally, fan-fucking-tastic movie. I can't see Spiderman 2 beating this one or even coming close to touching it but we'll have to see......

Prof X: They make him out to be the most powerful mutant in the world... and that's because he is. The hinted as the scope of his power in the first one, and here they take it all the way.

Magneto: Shit. It's a totally different character from the Cartoon. In the toon Magneto was more passionate and strong and just someone who stole your attention. In the film he is WAY more lowkey, but that just makes him even MORE badass. There are a few scenes where your jaw just drops and you think "this man is the most dangerous man on the planet".

Stryker: AWESOME! I wasn't sure of him going into it, afterall, he is human - how could he actually be a threat to someone like Prof X or Magneto? Well, HE IS. His motivation and hatred against Mutants makes perfect sense and you can't hate him for that... but he takes pleasure in what he does and for that he truly is evil.

Wolverine: Oh... So badass... So very, very badass... Oh boy...

Pyro: You know how badass Wolverine is? Well, Wolverine doesn't necessarily enjoy his abilities or embraces his mutant-self. Pyro does and that makes him 10xs more badass than our clawed hero.

IceMan: A nice hint at things to come.

Rogue: Didn't do much. She had her time in X1.

Cyclops: Didn't do much. He will have his time in X3.

Jean: I am split on Jean. She's really hot, but in some places she is really annoying. Let's hope X3 fixes that up.

Storm: She got a lot more action this time around, I still don't think Halle is right for this role, but she did good enough.

Nightcrawler: There were a bunch of Highlights in this film. For me it will rank 1)Stryker, 2)Pyro, 3)Magneto, and 4)Nightcrawler - it's hard to have 4 showstealers, but hey, they did it. Perfect casting, Perfect Voice, Perfect FX, everything perfect... except the teeth... those were annoying.

Lady Deathstrike: I am torn here. I mean, she isn't the same character as she was in the Toon.. by any means. Her claws aren't the same claws as the Toon, her role isn't the same role, her history isn't the same, and she doesn't have freakin special regenerative powers. But, still an effective character and they worked it pretty well... dispite the glaring creative licencing.

Mystique: Used pretty much well like the first one, just better. I liked her a lot more here.

Winks and Nods: There were a ton of em, which made the film all that much more enjoyable.

I'm hoping and praying that they step it up hardcore with Pyro in X3. Aaron Stanford has great eyes (well he does!) and he can effectively express hatred through them. Just watch him blow up cars and set police on fire. That man enjoys what he does for a living. He's basically the polar (pun!) opposite of Iceman who is shy, quiet and leads a sheltered existence. Pyro is proud to be a mutant, he fucks people up in public without hesitation and, most importantly...............he has fun doing it. Pyro owns.

This film owned beyond all recognition. Just who was the fucking coolest? Right now, its a toss-up between Magneto, Nightcrawler, Pyro and Wolverine, but shit, Mystique kicked so much fucking ass. When she slides through the doors with the middle finger salute...yeah, coolness. Apocalypse owns. What makes him cool is that he goes beyond Xavier and Magneto's opposing beliefs into something so much more pure. All he cares about is survival. And he's big and tough, too. I keep seeing people wank on about the Hellfire Club for X3, why? Those losers sucked majorly, deeply annoying. Apocalypse and Sinister are where its at, as long as they lose the Cyclops fascination and actually get some kind of handle on what Sinister and Apocalypse's powers actually are.

Actually, she did have the regenative abilities- you see her heal during the fight, when Wolvies calws are in her gut.

I think Triple R was complaining that she does have regenative powers in the movie, but actually (in the toon and comics) she doesn't.

Might as well post here.

Conquering the box office with ease was the highly anticipated sequel X2: X-Men United which opened at number one on Friday with an enormous estimate of $32.5M. If the estimate holds, the Fox tentpole picture would edge out Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the second-largest opening day in history trailing Spider-Man's record $39.4M from this weekend last year. X2 kicked off the summer movie season in a record 3,741 theaters and outdistanced the $21M opening-day haul of its predecessor, July 2000's X-Men, by a whopping 53%. With its loyal fan base rushing into theaters on opening day, the first mutant film grossed a very high 39% of its full weekend take on Friday. As a sequel, X2 could be slightly more frontloaded, even though it opened during the school year. For the Friday-to-Sunday period, X2 may be able to generate a colossal $80-85M.

Far back in second place, but still delivering an impressive debut, was Disney's The Lizzie McGuire Movie which grossed $5.7M in its first day of release. The opening exceeded the $3.4M Friday opening of the last pre-teen girl flick, What A Girl Wants, as well as the $4M Friday debut of Hilary Duff's last movie Agent Cody Banks. Lizzie could take in $17-19M over the entire weekend session.

Among holdovers, Friday-to-Friday declines were 46% for Identity, 43% for Anger Management, and 49% for Holes.
