Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted April 30, 2003 The Rock is justifiable for wanting Goldberg to improve his ring skills. I'm not saying Rocky is a technical master, but Goldberg sucks pretty bad. Besides that, without his spear or his twitching, no one would cheer him at all. He does not have good charisma, despite what some Goldy-marks tend to believe. No, he's not the worst, but he is by far from being in the top 10. Good wrestling will never be the result or the luxury of good charisma/storylines. It's actually the other way around. If someone came to a show and saw an incredible match between Angle and Austin (ex.), then it makes that fan wonder "what's gonna happen between those two?", and then the pressure is MAJOR on the WWE to capitalize on that particular ****+ match to create a good storyline to keep them feuding, BECAUSE the fans want to have a good reason for Austin and Angle to put on another great match. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I Concur.. also Good wrestling doesn't have to mean a cache of Moves. Good wrestling is how two Wrestlers communicate to put together a story in the ring and how to play off each other, and how one can make himself and his opponent look good equally. Goldberg only sold when he was strapped into the Sharpshooter.....heh even Austin powered partically out of Bret's Sharpshooter 6 years ago. Goldberg had to make it to the ropes..... gee. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted April 30, 2003 The very best example of good wrestling resulting in a great feud is the Austin/Rock feud. Their first Wrestlemania main event featured two top stars battling for their top spot. It wasn't as heated a feud as it is today, but it featured Austin (THE man of the WWF at that point, riding momentum) and Rock (a white-hot upcoming top heel, riding arrogance and athleticism). They had a good main event which showed that despite Rock's heel tactics, Austin won because of more experience and he was just too big a superstar at that time to let a cocky and young kid take his mantle away from him. Their second main event came at a time when Austin was coming back as a wily/crafty veteran who was quickly returning to his dominant spot in pro-wrestling/WWF. The difference was that Rocky was the #1 guy when he was out, and Rocky was much more experienced and didn't want his top spot taken. Their feud escalated on a much higher level. It was "Who is the bigger and better star?". Austin started to realize that Rock had a much better chance of winning, because Austin was older and started to feel his weaknesses, and Rocky's momentum was soaring. The one key advantage was Austin's out-of-control intelligence/craftiness that showed at WM 17 when he tried everything in his power to win. He even showed signs of his heel days with the million dollar dream (Great storytelling), but Rocky, the young but cocky mega-face, was too strong and athletic to lay down this time, so Austin cheated Rock out by aligning with Vince, in desperation to hold on to his mantle of "The #1 man in the business". The third mania main event saw The Rock at his absolute peak in his career, facing Austin who was feeling his age and injuries, and no longer had the stigma of being "The #1 guy". The fans tuned in to this feud again because this time no one knew who would win. Rocky eventually won because he is the younger, more athletic, and stronger athlete rather than Austin, who tried to beat Rock with his in-ring acumen, because he couldn't rely on his athleticism alone. Their whole feud resulted from a good-great match at 'Mania 15, which told a great story. That story of "Who is the bigger and better star" captivated the fans because they were both great in the ring, and thus, the WWE capitalized by creating that aura for great feud, which thus resulted in good storylines/promos. Guest hosserific Report post Posted April 30, 2003 while it does bother me that benoit, rvd etc. arent in the main event, my thing is that thier matches are toned down so much. if the reason for this is that vince doesnt want them showing up the main eventers, then vince is an idiot because the already are on a daily basis
