Guest Mole Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I've only seen two weeks of TNA, and that was a long time ago. I know that WWE's product has been really crappy lately, so I was wondering if TNA is better than WWE? Since I can't order PPV's at school, I can't watch TNA. However, when I get home for the summer, if TNA is as good as everyone says so, I might just order one PPV to see how good it really is. So, is it better? Storyline wise? Wrestling wise? Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I can't answer that question fairly. I've been watching TNA for so long that I'm tremendously biased. There isn't any star power...which would be a major turn off for most people. But when you watch it enough guys like America's Most Wanted become stars...to me at least. I guess it depends what you're looking for. There are growing parts of TNA that I am not a fan of...namely the hardcore "matches" but I am a fan of the fast paced X matches...even if they aren't always "good" as far as star ratings. All that being said...I would suggest that if you or anyone else is thiking of trying TNA anytime soon this would be a good day to do so. They've been building this Raven/Jarrett match since January and the card has a 4 way X eilimination match which (although we don't know who's in the match) is the kind of match that firts got TNA it's "buzz" around here. Everytime Kash does his double-underhook piledriver I turn my head away. And did you know D-Lo Brown could suicide dive over the top rope? I didn't until he did it against Raven a couple weeks ago. Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted April 30, 2003 With TNA, the guys have free reign over the type of style they use. In WWE, guys use the same kind of plodding style in each and every match. So to me at least, a *** 1/2 match on TNA is so much more entertaining than a *** 1/2 WWE match because you're geting a lot of different working styles put into one match. TNA's main problem is that they don't have unlimited funds, bring people in then forget them, switch people's alliances randomly at times, etc. But at the same time, if I have to choose between a Hardcore match that accompanies a great Mitchell promo or a combination of Hoss vs. Hoss on Smackdown and 3MW wasting time with Steiner, I'm picking the Hardcore matches. I've enjoyed TNA more than WWE since the beginning, but I am very biased because I was one of the few who believed TNA would succeed. Some of them were mentioned in responses prior to mine. Despite all that, however, I still enjoy their product a great deal. Guest Burning Hammer Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I find it refreshing that there isn't any "star power". Star Power these days just screams old and washed up and not able to do anything new and fresh. The biggest problem with the WWE is that they don't have anyone new or fresh to do things with. In the NWA you have new guys who are hungry and put on pretty good matches. I just got three episodes of TNA recently(episodes 38,39,40) and after watching them my impression was that they have something that potentially could be very special. The matches are fairly good and entertaining most of the time. The hardcore matches that receive a lot of complaints on this board are actually pretty solid for that type of match. The X division is pretty good although I could do without Kash. The tag division is the strength of the promotion at the moment. With Tripple X, AMW, Red/Lynn you have three tag teams that are very good to excellent in the ring. The video packages are well done and always help to hype up whatever is going on. Another big positive that has been mentioned already is that the wrestlers can go out and work whatever style they want to. AS a fan I appreciate this since I hate being forcefead boring HHH style matches. The Raven/Jarrett feud has been the best feud over a title I've seen in a long time. Hopefully we will get a great payoff tonight. My one negative about TNA is this type of show belongs on tv not on ppv. It would make a great weekly wrestling show on any cable network. Right now it is easily heads and shoulders above the WWE as far as long term booking goes and in ring work. So yeah the NWA is better than the WWE right now. Guest RedJed Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I'm in the same boat with others here that I'm probably biased since I've seen every TNA show since it started, but then again maybe there is a reason for that. I'd safely say this much though, 9 out of 10 weeks, the TNA show is usually better than either Raw, Smackdown, or both........EASILY. I think they currently are doing the best solid run of their history, in say the last 3 to 4 months of TV. Seemed to really start picking up storyline wise around November or so. And the storylines are definately probably at an all time high for the company right now. Sure, once in awhile there will be a shit night of stuff or an occasional WTF moment, but the shows never have seemed to insult my intelligence like WWE has for so many months here. The matches themselves have already been explained........they aren't held back by anything really, and will really turn up the intensity at times which you dont see at all in WWE anymore. Anyway again I might be biased since I've been a fan of the shows just about right off the bat (since I love the whole southern "redneck theater" feel to it) but I still think that even if WWE had a more solid foundation right now, that I would still be enjoying these shows better. Just about everything is there that you want from a wrestling company, to me at least. My only comaplaint is that its not on free TV, so there have been a few weeks where I couldn't order because of lack of money, but when I do order Im almost always entertained for 2 hours. Its fresh and different. It isnt the same old, same old as WWE. The emphasis from the start for the most part has been on wrestling. Title matches mean something. We get to see smaller or lesser known guys treated like stars. Guys who were jobbers in WCW and WWE given new life. Suprises show up almost every week, from legends to recent stars. Awesome moves and dangerous spots that you'd never see in WWE, and an overall faster paced match. I've loved it and really hope it can get a TV deal so I dont have to make tough decisions not to order every few weeks. But if this was on head to head against RAW or Smackdown like Nitro or Thunder I'd watch TNA and tape WWE... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

But lately, they've been having a few ACTUAL matches (with psychology, good transitions, etc.) on TNA programming (the prime example that I can think of is Saturn/Barton, where Barton sold each punch THAT HE DELIVERED as if his hand were breaking, targeted Saturn's bleeding head, and then Saturn won with a submission hold on Barton's injured/worn hand). In a few weeks time, the fans of TNA should be conditioned to enjoy actual technical wrestling as well as the hardcore brawls and the spotfests that they're already used to. I mean, a wwe cruiserweight match is basically the same as a heavyweight match(due to the WWE style) and the hardcore matches in wwehaven't been entertaining since Steve Blackman was the champ(i kow theres no more hardcore title, but hardcore matches follow the same setup still) My beef with NWA has to be there whol "bring a guy in for a week or two and then never see him again". Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 7, 2003 I'll admit I have only seen a few shows of TNA (mainly earlier shows). The thing that sticks out is the environment. IT isn't an ECW environment (although the additions of New Jack and Snadman can make me question it) but the NWA fans are some of the most rabid around... very similar to ECW. I read this article at the oratory and thinks it makes a good case for TNA not getting a cable deal... http://www.rajahwwf.com/~oratory/index.php...comments&id=572 the initial knee-jerk reacion is that TNA needs a cable deal but this author makes a very compelling point that the audiences' paradigm needed to be shifted and TNA does that. With that said, I wish, at least once a month, one of their PPV's had a big-time feel to it. I think last week's show did that but it could occur a little more often.
