HurriShane 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 I think that this might actually end up being a good idea in the long run. It'll give guys like Christian and Rhyno a chance to do their thing on PPV and maybe make their way into the upper level of WWE superstars.
Guest JDMattitudeV1 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that guys like Chavo, Christian, Rey and Rhyno will get more PPV time, but for the life of me I can't see how these PPV's are going to draw any money what so ever. I can see what some people are saying that by giving the PPV's more time to build it could increase peoples interest and hence buy-rates will increase, but as I said earlier thats putting a lot of faith in the WWE creative team and at the moment I have none. If this was a company that were consistently coming up with creative angles to build matches, split PPV's and more time to build them could work, but at the moment that is just not happening. And don't forget although the likes of Rhyno, the cruiserweights and Team Angle may get increased PPV time, I can guarantee you that Albert, The Big Show, Nathan Jones and various other hosses will also get more time. Gert T 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Although six weeks to build a storyline is great, the WWE always wants to blow their load to pop the ratings, so I really do not think there will be very excting matches on a consistent basis. I just really do not think they can put on more than 5 or 6 good matches per brand on each PPV. And by good that can include "name" wrestlers.
Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Can I just clear something up about the split PPVs - there will RARELY be a 2 month build up for the brand exclusive PPVs. Raw's first 2 month build up won't be until this time next year, because of the dual brand PPVs. The more things change...
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Right now, I put WWE PPV as slightly higher quality than TNA. So $15 is as high as I go.
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 1, 2003 I don't think the brand specific PPV's will happen. I think Wrestlemania and Backlash will have significantly lower than expected buyrates, and they'll get spooked and realize they'll get even shittier buyrate for a Raw only PPV and not do it. To me, if they want to do 16 PPV's a year, I'd do 4 extra this way. One, just squeeze and extra one into the schedule by pacing them better. Sometimes there's 5 or 6 weeks between shows, squeeze those weeks and you can easily get an extra PPV in. Next, make one BRAND SPECIFIC PPV a year for something special. If champ gets hurt, do a TITLE TOURNAMENT SHOW. Only the tournament, nothing else. Do a TAG TITLE or CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE SHOW for Smackdown. Do the KOTR as a seperate show, just the tournament! Put one of the foreign shows LIVE as a PPV, or on a short delay and pretend its live! That's four more shows without killing the drawing power of the exisiting shows by making them contain only have of your drawing stars. Just my opinion. niko
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Guys, they logistically cannot change the cost for each PPV, because it would send the message to the fans, despite the fact that its true, that you'll get less on each show, at least in star power and matches. He cant send the message that getting these shows give people less bang for their buck, because they wont want to pay for less, even if they're paying less.... That's what they used to do with In Your House remember? Like IYH 1, 2, 3 etc. They were cheaper until around about IYH 14. And that was when they got popular. If Vince were to lower the price, and build up the brand PPV's like IYH's, it might work e.g the big matches can be announced for Summerslam now, with the build up being spread over the brand only PPV. I'd get the brand only PPV's of course, but then again I don't have to pay for them(except 4) being in England. So I guess my opinion doesn't matter in the price side of this. But they have advantages like more talent, diversity of storylines, people like Richards and Christian with something to do other than carry on others' storylines. To me, if they want to do 16 PPV's a year, Err...16 PPV's a year isn't happening dude. It'd still be 12 a year...
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 1, 2003 No, the reason for the switch is to get people used to it so they can expand next year to 16 ppv's, with 4 shared and 6 brand specific each. niko

More proof that Vince has lost his mind. Those will be the lowest buyrates ever for a wrestling PPV (yes, that includes WCW and ECW)...who the hell's going to shell out for 16 PPVs a year? They're having enough trouble with 12 as it is.
