Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I've seen a lot of threads around here about recommendations on single songs, but what about entire CDs? Are there any CDs that you, the sMusic board, feel are essential to everyday life? For those of us looking to expand our CD collections, this could be a very helpful thread...... I'll start things off here: Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde Whiskeytown - Pnemounia Fiction Plane - Everything Will Never Be Okay Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast Tenacious D - Tenacious D Again, this could be very helpful to those of us looking to pick up some more CDs....maybe some comments on the CDs would be nice too? Enjoy, boys and girls.

Guest HHH's 'Roid Needle Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Eyes Adrift(Self Titled). Its Curt Kirkwood from Meat Puppets, Bud Gaugh from Sublime, and Krist Novoselic from Nirvana. Its basically Meat Puppets III, but with a more mello and relaxed feel. Bargain Music--C002. The best indy vocalist in music today. Period. Find some of their acoustic stuff of Kazaa. Knock your socks off. Descendents--Milo Goes To College. Classic album that must be in everyone's collection.

Guest BAR Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Well, I could go on about Sabbath, Floyd, Met, etc. all day but you've heard of that. Pick up some Kyuss, you should like it. Particularly 'Blues for the Red Sun' (1992) and 'Welcome to Sky Valley' (1994).

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Anything by Stevie Wonder from the early/mid 70s. Talking Book would be the place to start, I'd say. Everyone's heard "Superstition," I'd imagine, but the whole album is fucking unbelievable.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Double post. To make it worthwhile: Clutch-Elephant Riders Elephant Riders OWNS. I still think the self-titled disc is Clutch's best, but goddamn, Elephant Riders is fucking great.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 1, 2003 It's a close call for me. Elephant Riders has Wishbone..the s/t has Spacegrass, which may or may not be my favorite Clutch tracks. I definitely think ER is put together much better, but it has a couple throw away tracks, like Cracker Jack, which is a decent enough waste of an interlude, but doesn't need to be on the album at all. Another album: Les Claypool's Flying Frog Bridade-Live Frogs Set 2 It's Pink Floyd's Animals, covered in its entirety, 10-8,9-2000. Brian, as a Floyd fanatic, you owe it to yourself to check that out. I can assure you that you will shit your pants upon hearing it.

Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Sunna "One Minute Silence" I just cannot say anything bad on this CD. It's FANTASTIC. There's a good deal on Amazon, where you get the selftitled from Professional Murder Music as well. ANYTHING Mars Volta. At The Drive IN "Vaya" or "Relationship Of Command." Nonpoint "Statement" Screw the new CD. Statement is just superior in every way. I was really disappointed when I heard "Your Signs". Blech. "What A Day" has comedic value to go with it. Sunna "One Minute Silence" Mudvayne "L.D. 50" IMO, the finest metal album made. I know, I know, "dont say Mudvayne seriously." But, Mudvayne is not only who got me into metal, but who inspired me to learn bass. And Ryknow is a phenominal bassist. Not Claypool level, not Wooten level, but still excellent. Interpol "Turn On The Bright Lights" Wow. Sappy rock that I like. Never saw that coming. It's a very well made CD, with only one real lemon ("Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down") on the CD. They are strange at first, least, they were to me. But its a surprisingly good CD. The Apex Theory "Topsy Turvy" First and only album of theirs, since the singer left. Fucker. There was such promise there... Any songs from Guilty Gear/X/X2. Sunna "One Minute Silence" Thee Michelle Gun Elephant "Gear Blues" Only J-rock I'll ever listen to. They're....somethin' else. Worth checking out. Oh, and Sunna. Otherwise, that's it.

Guest Anorak Report post Posted May 1, 2003 A few random recommendations. From this year so far..... The Jayhawks: Rainy Day Music Calexico: Feast Of Wire Gorky's Zygotic Mynci: 20 (Re-issue of 94-96 Ep's'Singles) I'm not exactly a metalhead but for louder stuff Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger , Monster Magnet's Spine Of God and Blues For The Red Sun by Kyuss. Electro-Shock Blues by Eels is one of the main albums from recent-ish years (98 I think) which deserves greater recognition IMO. A very affecting and rewarding album. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 2, 2003 I'd just like to state once again that I think Audioslave is one of the most disappointing over-hyped bands in the history of music. Given the collective skill involved in the band, they should've been able to come up with something MUCH better than the middle of the road rock album they put out. I owe it all to the University radio station I worked in oh so many years ago. I like your picks as well, especially Curve and Lush. They were fun bands to see live, with the light shows and ethereal qualities and whatnot. Very evocative of Siouxsie during her Superstition tour. Les doing The Floyd always works. I loved the Primus cover of "Have a Cigar" so I'll no doubt pick that one up. The Clutch s/t also contains "Animal Farm" which just rocks hard ass from beginning to end. Pure Rock Fury was pretty cool, but it's probably my lesat favorite Clutch album. Haveing "Spacegrass" live at the end of the disc makes it worth picking up though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Ever heard Transitional Speedway League? It's definitely their heaviest album, with tracks like "Binge and Purge." It's good, but they're much better when they've got a good stoner jam going.
