The last three cover boys for Madden were George, Culpepper, and Faulk. Look what happened... Year before cover: George makes superbowl. Year after: He gets hurt...career goes downhill. Year before cover: Culpepper is premiere player...brings Vikings to NFC Championship game. Year after: Career starts to go downhill Year before cover: Faulk and the Rams make Superbowl. Year after: Rams do horribly. Year before cover: Vick revolutionizes the position of quarterback and becomes the most talked about player in the league. Year after cover: ?? Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 5, 2003 Well that would have something to do with the fact that all of those people featured on the cover have been more or less one-season wonders that the rest of the league wasn't really prepared for and broke out. Except for Eddie George, who was mainly just an above-average running back. Why haven't they ever had Favre, Moss, Garcia, Seau, Strahan, or Urlacher on it? Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 6, 2003 Eddie George: the constant pounding he was taking was going to catch up to him eventually, especially now that he's not as young as he used to be. It was a matter of time before injuries did him in. Jerome Bettis, another physical, workhorse running back, has had the same thing happen to him for the past couple seasons. Culpepper: I don't think his career has started to go downhill as much as the Vikings have turned into a shambles. Between Stringer's death, the "Randy ratio," their draft-day foibles, and questionable coaching, that's a team in disarray. It's no surprise that their star young QB is sinking with the ship. Give Culpepper a change of scenery and he can flourish again. Faulk: He's always been injury-prone, and it was bound to happen that the Rams' offense would implode sooner or later. Mike Martz has never been an offensive genius, Warner was hurt, Faulk was hurt, and those three factors sank St. Louis' season. Faulk is still a tremendous offensive player, and if he's again the focus of the offense, I think St. Louis can still succeed. Jinx? Bah.
