I'm here to pimp emll!

Guest El Gato del Estilo Diferente

In an attempt to add content to the new board I would like to take this time to pimp EMLL as the greatest promotion in the world right now.  I don't get Galavision until weeks later because I'm in Canada but the EMLL part of the 3 hour block on Galavision is my favourite wrestling show hands down.

The Pay-Per-Views EMLL puts on are great as well.  They have big matches on them with stipulations that actually STICK such as

-Villano III's unmasking on 3.17.00

-El Hijo del Gladiador's unmasking on 8.4.00

-Cien Caras losing his hair on 12.15.00

-Perro Aguayo losing his hair and RETIRING on 3.30.01

-Mascara Magica's unmasking & Satanico/Averno/Mephisto winning the rights to the Infernales name while Ultimo Guerrero/Rey Bucanero/Tarzan Boy/Mascara Magica had to adopt the Los Guerreros del Infiernos name on 9.28.01

-Brazo de Plata losing his hair on 12.15.01

-Emilio Charles Jr. losing his hair on 12.15.01

WWF had their big blowoff PPV with the Alliance but alliance guys were back on tv within weeks or never left the house show circuit at all.

Great technicos like El Hijo del Santo and Mr. Niebla are about as smooth as it gets when they do the flippy-jumpy-super-elaborate-armdrags-and-headscissors.  Other technicos like Felino, Olimpico & Black Warrior are a step below Niebla & Santo but being rated below those two is no shame at all.

In my opinion the best rudo by far is Blue Panther.  There are other rudos like Black Tiger, Ultimo Guerrero, Dr. Wagner Jr. & Shocker who may be a bit flashier but Panther meshes with the technicos seemlessly while never blowing anything.

Even the old slugs like Los Hermanos Dinamita (Universo 2000/Cien Caras/Mascara Ano 2000), Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Gran Markus Jr. & Los Guapos (on their bad nights) can be enjoyable when in with some spry opponents.

Last but not least EMLL does the sports entertainment better than anyone as well.  They don't take themselves that seriously in that department.  The worst you might see from EMLL is a luchadore fantasy dream sequence which is much more tolerable than Stephane McMahon wailing like a baby (and badly I might add), Billy & Chuck, Torrie Wilson pantsing Vince McMahon or Kurt Angle trying to act tough by threatening to throw Steve Austin off a bridge.

The WWF is more likely to deliver the real comedy in its matches while its real storylines are put across in promos and vignettes.  EMLL's stories are told in the ring and settled there which is only right considering there is a wrestling ring out in front of thousands of people and not a Hollywood set.

There isn't nearly enough lucha libre discussion on this board.  Now that Bixenspan is doing reviews for the main page and such, this may change.  It is obvious that you love the EMLL, but what is kind of product does AAA put out?  I know Raven Mack says it's the "gayest" promotion in the world, but how's the wrestling?

Check out some IWRG tapes, it's sorta EMLL on crack.  You'll see EMLL guys like Felino, Pantera, Los Guapos, Santo, Negro Navarro, & more, plus great local talent like Dr. Cerebro, Cirujano, Los Megas, Fantasy, Rambo, Multifacetico, Starboy, Black Dragon, Ultimo Vampiro, Micke "Suicida" Segura, some fun lower card guys (including the oddly gimmicked Star Wars guys Galaxia R2 and Guerra C3).  Most of what's available is mixed with Monterrey lucha footage, which has some good Local guys and main events w/ EMLLers. I'll review some soon.

Hey Bix, its me...your IWA Winnipeg/APTN wrestling/weirdo Canadian sports hook-up, en mascara!

About AAA, it has EMLL beat in terms of production values for starters.  However, its mostly lucha brawling from what I have seen of the recent stuff.  Bad lucha brawling at that.  The minis matches are usually good due to the awesome Octagoncito so the promotion isn't a total wash.  Los Vipers y Los Mini Vipers all have super cool masks that rival those of the Los Boricuas in EMLL in swankiness.

I know you said you're going to review some of their shows in the future but do you have any shows, off the top of your head, you can recommend?

MR:Hey, I'm in Canada too! I gotta pop for DirecTV one of these days

MR: Ack, I hurt you! I've only just caught up to 12.15.00 last night and I've somehow managed to avoid the results of most of the PPVs this year.  I'll be watching the rest all over the weekend.

MR: Santito always catches me off guard when he does the elaborate armdraggery. I just never seem to expect it from him, but there he goes looking flawless at it.

In my opinion the best rudo by far is Blue Panther.  There are other rudos like Black Tiger, Ultimo Guerrero, Dr. Wagner Jr. & Shocker who may be a bit flashier but Panther meshes with the technicos seemlessly while never blowing anything.

MR: Ultimo Guerrero is so great in what I've seen. Seeing Silver King under the BT mask will be the highlight of my weekend, I'm venturing to guess.

MR: More like the best! I was so eager to see the Wagnerstein skit that I hopped out of chronological viewing just for the chance. So frigging cool. Bless Alfredo for putting together blocks of the Galavision show.

From what I've seen, the very best volumes of Alfredo's IWRG/Monterrey series are:

1,2,21,28,35,36,37(a match gets stopped for blood IN MEXICO),38,41,44(KING HAKU JUNIOR)!

They're all good, but I'd start w/ these.

Hey!  it's Ryan!

AAA has better production...are you on CRACK?  I could light a show better w/ birthday candles.

EMLL is one of the few things that's keeping me hooked on wrestling right now. Guys like Black Warrior, Black Tiger, Los Infernals( Sans Mephisto, but hopefully they'll add Zumbido), Ultimo Guerrero's group( I'm sure they announced a name but i forgot) Santo and Negro Casas, Blue Panther, and Wagner are consistently entertaining and the feuds are always providing quality matches. AAA on the other hand sucks ass and the only noteable exceptions are the minis, Abismo Negro, Perro Jr., Hector Garza, and (every once in a while) Heavy Metal.

EMLL has definetly been growing on me, the lucha libre style takes some getting used to but once you do it's great. I am dissapointed thet Rey Misterio,El Nicho and Juvy only appeared for a few weeks as they helped me get into the product but CMLL still have lots of talent on the roster.

AAA's mini's have been the highlights many times when I have stayed tuned to watch it but overall the product is a letdown. The women especially Lady Apache tend to be good and can only get better if Ayako Hamada ends up there. Has there been any news on her situation as of late?
