Eminem denies Weird Al permission

Recommended Posts

Oh boo fucking hoo Marshall, I guess you can dish it out, but you can't take it. Bitch.

NEW YORK, May 9 —  Eminem may poke fun at himself in videos, but he doesn’t want “Weird Al” Yankovic doing it. Eminem won’t give Yankovic permission to shoot a video for his new song, “Couch Potato,” a parody of Eminem’s Oscar-winning tune “Lose Yourself,” Yankovic said.

“THE ONLY REASON I could glean was that making a Weird Al music video would detract from his legacy as a serious hip-hop artist,” Yankovic said Thursday. “It’s very disappointing. This could have been my best video ever.”

A representative for Eminem did not immediately return a call Friday.

Mathers has proven time and time again to have no sense of humor about himself when it comes to other people poking any kind of fun at him in any way (see: the Triumph incident).

Admittedly, Eminem is tremendously talented. That having been said, I don't enjoy his music and I hate absolutely everything about him, but that's just me.

Remember Triumph at the MTV Music Awards? Marshall was a real prick, and had no sense of humor.

What the hell is Mathers holding in his hands? And what's with that expression? It almost looks like he's imitating Moby, somewhat ironic.

That's Al as Eminem, staring at a TV.

Hence, "Couch Potato."

The funny thing is that when Shady's new album comes out (whenever that may be), there's going to be like 20 Weird Al disses...

Why would he do that? I mean, he gave Weird Al permission to do a parody. That would make no sense to do that...

Then why is he so afraid to let Weird Al do the video?

Maybe he just doesn't think one should be done. Frankly, I don't really know. Maybe there's valid reasons behind it that aren't him being a punk. Maybe he has a complex about it or something and those ARE the reasons. But frankly, who really cares?

I mean, we're still gonna hear the parody. What does it matter if he makes a music video or not? I honestly think people just look for reasons to trash Eminem. That's me personally. He's doing the parody already, who gives a damn about the music video?

That's what this whole thread is about.

Let's return to this thread in 5 years and see who's still around -- Al or MM.

Coolio had a problem with Al's "Amish Paradise" a few years back -- come on rappers, lighten up...

Weird Al > Eminem

Yeah, because Weird Al actually writes the music for it...

Have you ever SEEN a Weird Al music video?

They're glorious. They're like, the reason for Al's existance. He can take a pretty "eh" parody (let's say... "Fat," for example") and make it a classic with a video. His videos are Godly. All of them.

Yes, I have seen Weird Al parodies. That doesn't change my opinion on the matter though.

What I don't understand is why Al even bothers asking for permission? He DOESN'T HAVE TO ASK for permission. Parodies are protected under law. The video would be protected in the same way the song will be protected. Al is just TOO nice a guy.

In the "Weird" Al Behind the Music, it is explained that through some sort of mix-up Al thought Coolio gave his permission for Amish Paradise. As it turned out Coolio never did. Coolio tried to have his lawyers stop it, but they couldn't, because as stated above parodies are protected under law.

Eminem is such a pussy. He attacks people left and right in his music, some of which I'm sure could be considered slander. But when Al wants to rib him in good fun (Anybody that knows "Weird" Al knows that he is NEVER malicious) he gets all pissy. What a whiney little hypocrite bitch.

Al doesn't like to burn bridges in the industry by parodying people who don't want it. Most people take it as a compliment, as Coolio is the only one I know who pissed and moaned about it.

Most of the artist who get parodied like what he produces, although some figure he could have done a better job. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were a little disappointed at Bedrock Anthem, which was a parody of Under The Bridge and Give It Away Now. They figured it would be something better than "Yabba Dabba Yabba Dabba Yabba Dabba Dabba Doo Now".

I'm just hopeful that this album will be as good as the last one, Running With Scissors. There were only about two actively bad songs on there (Truck Driving Song and My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder) as opposed to Bad Hair Day, where the only good songs were Amish Paradise and the polka medley.

I'm hoping he does more interesting original work on the album like Albuquerque, which I've quoted in my shoot reviews at least once.

Eh, "Gump," "TNSWC," and "I Remember Larry" are all a riot, IMO.

Nothing else is TOO bad, either.

This just goes to show how much EE can dish it out, but can't take it. If anything, Wierd Al at least makes funny videos and I am sure that this new one he wanted to do would have been good. Many things come to mind that Wierd AL could make fun and still do it in a harmless way.

I trully think that Eminem thinks he so great and above being made fun of, that when he finally falls from his pedastal, he will fall hard. I personally am getting sick of Eminem, who has been playing the same character for the longest time. I mean how many "I hate my mom" songs will the general public take? I think that Eminem takes himself too seriously. I mean threating a sock pupet? Saying he will hit a guy in glasses? What a quality individual. But I guess when you couldn't even finish high school, you are bound to act like uneducated buffoon.

Maybe EE is just jelous that Wierd Al's paradies are more creative than anything EE has done.

Larry is a true Weird Al classic- my favourite Weird Al song.

Eminem is just being his usual dickish self- oh no someone is gonna make light of an overrated song you did- OMG NO!!

Lighten up and give Weird Al fans the chance to see what could be a classic video

My problem is that most of the albums have b-songs that are pretty damn good in addition to the a-songs (the parodys that sell the album).

With the exception of Amish Paridise, the polka medley, and The Night Santa Went Crazy (which I just remembered), I haven't listen ed to anything off of Bad Hair Day in years. Contrast that with some of the other albums (the lists are the highlights of each album, not the entire contents. NO polka medleys are on this list.):

Weird Al- A-Songs: Ricky, I Love Rocky Road, My Bologna, Another One Rides The Bus, Stop Draggin' My Car Around. B-Songs: Happy Birthday, I'll Be Mellow When I'm Dead, Such A Groovy Guy, Gotta Boogie.

Weird Al in 3D- A-songs: Eat It, I Lost on Jeopardy, King of Suede, Brady Bunch (Safety Dance), Theme to Rocky XIII (Eye of the Tiger). B-songs: Gonna Buy Me A Condo, Nature Trail To Hell in 3D, Midnight Star, Mr. Popiel.

Dare to be Stupid- A-songs: Yoda, Like a Surgeon, I Want a New Duck, Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch. B-songs: Dare To Be Stupid, One More Minute, Slime Creatures From Outer Space, This Is The Life

Polka Party- A-Songs: Living With A Hernia, Addicted To Spuds. B-songs: One Of Those Days, Dog Eat Dog, Christmas At Ground Zero

Even Worse- A-Songs: Fat, Lasagna, I Think I'm A Clone Now. B-songs: Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White, Melanie, You Make Me, Good Old Days

Off The Deep End- A-Songs: Smells Like Nirvana, I Can't Watch This, The White Stuff, Taco Grande. B-Songs: Trigger Happy, I Was Only Kidding, When I Was Your Age, You Don't Love Me Anymore

Alapalooza- A-Songs: Jurassic Park, Bedrock Anthem (Under the Bridge and Give It Away Now), Achy Breaky Song, Bohemian Polka, Livin' In The Fridge. B-songs: Frank's 2000" TV, Young Dumb And Ugly.

Bad Hair Day- A-Songs: Amish Paridise, Gump, Phony Calls, Cavity Search(Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me). B-Songs: The Night Santa Went Crazy. (The others are so unremarkable that I can't remember anything about them)

Running With Scissors- A-Songs: The Saga Begins (American Pie), Pretty Fly For A Rabbi, Jerry Springer (One Week), It's All About The Pentiums, Grapefruit Diet. B-Songs: Your Horoscope For Today, Albuquerque, Germs.

While I may be a bit biased, the A-Songs from Bad Hair Day tended to blow (Amish Paridise and Gump were good... Cavity Search and Phony Calls weren't even parodys of GOOD songs) and the B-songs were unremarkable outside of The Night Santa Went Crazy.

The only other album on that level is Polka Party, which had a great A-song in Living With A Hernia but the only other song that was any good was Christmas At Ground Zero.

Holy shit! I thought that was Mathers... that's eerie. I can't find any semblance of the "old" Weird Al at all. Shoot, now I would've been interested in the video too.
