I have been a huge fan of the first DKC since the day it came out. Easily stands as my favorite. While the sequels may be said to be better than it, I never really played them all that much.

Oh, and to add, I thought DK64 was horrible. One of my biggest gaming disappointments ever.

i liked and didnt like DK64... i wish they had gone a different direction with it and made it not just like Banjo-Kazooie

DKC was awesome... i remember the first day it came out i was real young and i was simply in awe at it.... i hated those stupid mine cart stages... i was stuck for weeks on those and it was pissing me off soo badly

Donkey Kong Country 2, period. One of my all-time favorite games. It features, IMO, the best graphics and music on the SNES. The storyline and settings are original (the storyline is debatable, but besides Mario is Missing, where else do you have to rescue the series' hero?). Levels such as the Brambles and theme parks are so great that I still go back and play them today. The co-op system with the throwing and climbing on top of the other monkey's shoulders was a great way to include more puzzles. And the Lost World was a great idea, as was getting 103%. You had so much to do, with two or more bonus levels per stage, hero coins, and then beating every level in the Lost World just to find that you had to face K. Rool again. And on the subject of villains....

They are all dressed up as pirates. The first levels are on a pirate ship. I love pirates, and fighting a buncha giant crocodiles dressed as pirates on a pirate ship is gonna get an A+ from me any day.

And don't diss the mine carts.

I guess Diddy Kong Racing doesnt count? (Not that I would have voted for it, but a fun game none the less..)

The 2nd one for the SNES is easily the best...

Donkey Kong Country 2... probably because I played this one more than the others but they're all pretty damn good if you ask me.

The first one on the GameBoy. Donkey Kong '94 or whatever it was called (it was the first game to take advantage of the Super GameBoy). It starts like the original Donkey Kong, and then extends that same gameplay over several worlds and gives Mario a few new moves. I still play it from time to time. By far the best Donkey Kong game out there.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is probably my second choice.

Simply because it was the first, Donkey Kong Country.

From the moment Nintendo sent me the preview/promotion video for DKC, it immediately became my favourite game of all time. Did anyone else ever receive that promo video, btw?

I admit that I hated the animal stages where you had to nab a certain amount of medallions in an amount of time, but everything else it had going for it was just so innovative and unimaginable on a 16-bit machine. It was just so fun.

I really liked the improvements in Diddy's KONG QUEST (Not Diddy Kong's Quest). But I didn't really enjoy not having DK around. Diddy wasn't a strong enough character, in my mind, to carry the license. I loved the roller coaster stages, though.

It just went to shit after that. I didn't like DKC3 at all. It just felt too different from the original.

And have any of you guys ever seen the Donkey Kong Country tv show on Teletoon/Fox Family?

So what? It played in every way superior to the original. DKC doesn't stack up anymore. DKC2 is still an awesome game.

You weren't totally screwed if you didn't have the right character like you sometimes were in DKC, the bonus stages in DKC2 are superior, Cammy Kong is a shameless ripoff of Tails but still manages to expand the gameplay, and the Lost World was a great addition to add many hours of gameplay to an already huge game.

I'll agree on that.

Ouch...yes. It was very painful.

So what? I didn't like the idea of not being able to use the game's main character in the game. It is, after all, titled DONKEY KONG Country. I figured I'd explained this already, but I'll go in depth:

While you may be judging a game's value based on its level of gameplay, I'm judging it for its overall feel. Why would some people choose Super Mario Bros. 3 over Super Mario Sunshine as their favourite Mario title? Isn't Mario Sunshine superior in every way to SM3? For that matter, why would some people in this very thread choose the original Donkey Kong over Donkey Kong Country? Gameplay is not the only thing that counts. When determining a personal favourite anything, a number of factors are used, some of them going beyond the basics. I like DKC1 simply because it was the first. By the time I played DKC2, the amazement and shock had already worn off. I possess more fond memories of DKC1 than I do its successor.

BTW, her name was Dixie Kong.
