Bret Hart comes to Jericho's aid.

Oh, and for the "you guys are hypocrites" crowd: there is a big difference about speculating over hearsay on a message board, and actually treating it as fact in a print newspaper article. If the incident never happened, or happened in a way completely different to what has been reported, Goldberg could conceivably sue Bret for libel.

Bob, so I imagined those horrible Wrestlemania reviews?

You say what you want in your writings, and that is your right, just like Bret has the right to say what he feels in his OWN columns. Unless you want to explain why that isn't the case??

One reason Brett came to Jericho's defense is because Jericho either paid or helped pay for Owen Hart's funeral. That and he's probably known Jericho since he was 20 years old.

Jericho gave Martha Hart a cheque for $3,000. But Martha never cashed it

You would think Vince would have paid for the fuckin' funeral!

They're reviews- not columns. There's a difference.

Bret has the right to say what he wants in his column and I have the right to criticise him for saying it.

The WWF did pay for Owen's body to be flown back and did make a wreath for him or something. I don't think Martha would've taken the money either way since the only reason she invited Vince was so he could see the pain Owen's death caused

There is a difference in criticizing him for saying something and telling him he doesn't have the right to say it. Learn it.

Oh, and I laugh at "he can SUE for LIBEL". Goldberg would look like the biggest egomaniacal twat around for suing over comments that he was taken down by a smaller guy. Now if Bret had written that Goldberg rapes babies, then you're onto something....

She took the 16 million, though.

Wasn't it 18 million? I'll look it up later. I think the money from the settlement was more of an admission that yes they fucked up which is why she took that money and probably wouldn't take his money for the funeral.

Of course I'm not Martha Hart so this is all pure speculation

Fact is Bret can say whatever the fuck he wants no matter what a board full of smarks thinks.

Oh and if it's his own column I think that implies that it is his opinion so y'all can't whine that he "doesn't state facts". He states what he wants and it's exactly like Vince & co. making Luger look like a total prick on Confidential.

Luger has made himself look like a total prick for 15 years now.

He doesn't need Vince's help.

I understand Bret's bitterness towards Goldberg, and this article he's posted is a comical response to the Jericho/BG altercation. Nothing more, nothing less. I think a lot of people are making too big a deal out of it. Bret has a right to say what he thinks, as we all do, and calling each other hypocrites sounds weird, but it's a good thread anyway.

Man's got a point. And the same can be said with Goldberg. He doesn't need Bret's Hart in looking like a primadonna.

Yes, they did. The "wreath" in question (according to Martha) was a huge yellow WWF logo that was to be placed on Owens casket which Martha subsequently had removed.

It looks like Vince finally got revenge for Luger jumping to WCW in 1995

Why is it that every time someone states an opinion that's not "Fuck ____" (Insert Goldberg/HHH/WWE) they're a "WWE apologist, a "gimmick poster" or have some kind of "anti-smark bias"?

Get over yourselves, please.

He has a right to be bitter towards him but that means Bret has no room to comment on the Jericho v. Goldberg situation. He wasn't there, doesn't know what happened and is just lashing out against Goldberg for something completely unrelated. That doesn't make me want to read his column.

He's not reporting the news, he's writing an opinion column. He was given a story, and wrote a column based on his experience and opinion.

Your argument here is actually self-defeating. You say that since Hart doesn't have all the facts of the incident, he is bitter and was using this story to lash out. Unless you conducted an interview with Hart, viewed reliable facts on his real intentions, or are Bret Hart yourself, you have no way to know why he wrote the column in such an anti-Goldberg way.

I do believe he holds some bitterness towards Goldberg and that led him to believe what he heard, but I don't find that this takes away value from the column.

I dig what you're saying though, I couldn't stand Bret when all he ever did was bitch and complain about how he was screwed. If this is a direction he is going to take with his column, I'd never read it.

With shit like The little scrappy Calgarian, who is nowhere near Goldberg’s size, nonchalantly wrestled him to the floor, Bret has made himself look a total fool

That sounds like something straight out of Don Cherry's Coaches Corner script. Maybe with the NHL playoffs going on and Cherry being on tv every day, some of it leaked into Bret's column.

and took his own publicity a little too seriously

Pot...kettle...black

INDEED.

How do we know Jericho didn't tell Bret this himself? I'm sure Bret has many friends in the WWE whom he talks with on a semi-regular basis.

I don't think it's fair to say that Bret always complained about the Montreal incident. The facts are that the Montreal story was the biggest wrestling story in a long time. Bret was a big time known wrestler so of course everyone wanted to interview him and everyone who did was going to ask about Montreal. That's not his fault.

The WWE lost 18 million. $10 went to Martha, $3 went to the 2 kids, and Stu and Helen each got $1 million.

This Thread is so embarassingly comical...

Look Bret made a column...Likely we was in his depressed state of mind "No One Likes me, I got screwed and I got kicked in the head..." mode again so while he hangs out with daddy stu (the only person he has left) he hears about his fellow canuck throwing down Goldberg "The Prima donna" of wrestling...

He has an orgasm... and then the flood gates of hypocrasiy and we revert once again to the endless charade of bullshit arguements of Montreal and Owen's death...

Why do we decide to devote such time to a bitter man that lost every battle he fought...

You *do* know that Bret, right now, could have the WWE on their knees if he gave them a hint that he'd like to return, right?

Fuck Goldberg and Fuck Bret, too for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is that he's going on about events he didn't see as if he was there.

So would the Warlord.

But you don't see him making bitter statements.

Goldberg’s wrestling ability often resembled that gorilla in those

old Samsonite luggage commercials. He had a tendency to injure everybody he

worked with

(...)

Maybe Goldberg should come up to Calgary and spend some time

with Stu in the dungeon learning how to wrestle.

Gee, I specifically some kid trained in the Hart Dungeon injuring some guy with a Piledriver.... Forget who.. [/sarcasm]

I mean, I don't like to defend Fuck Goldberg (it makes me feel dirty), but everybody makes mistakes. This article just reeks of this:

well I can say that this thread has given me my daily dose of comedy... I needed a good laugh, thanks guys

The irony in all of you criticizing someone for their views because that particular person "didn't witness this in person" is absolutely hysterical

See my above post. There's enough stupidity in this article to go around, and some of the attacks are justified.
