Texas Woman Kills Her Children

TYLER, Texas (May 12) - A woman accused of fatally beating two of her sons with rocks remains on a suicide watch Monday at Smith County Jail, where she was held in lieu of $3 million bond on capital murder and aggravated assault charges.

Deanna LaJune Laney, 38, is accused of killing Joshua Laney, 8, and Luke Laney, 6, and injuring their 14-month-old brother, Aaron. Aaron remained in critical condition early Monday at a Dallas Hospital.

Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith said Laney called 911 on her cell phone early Saturday and calmly told the dispatcher, "I've killed my boys."

She reported that she had just ''bashed their heads in with a rock,'' according to Smith.

When they arrived at the home, sheriff's deputies found Joshua and Luke dead in the yard wearing only their underwear, large rocks on top of their bodies. Aaron was found in his crib with a pillow over his face, alive but bleeding.

Wearing bloodstained pajamas, Laney told the first deputy on the scene ''I had to'' when he took her into custody, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Smith said Laney acted erratically Sunday during interviews with investigators.

''Sometimes she is incoherent, sometimes she's in a fetal position and sobbing. Sometimes she's singing spiritual hymns or muttering about God and sometimes she has a flatliner (poker) face and not saying a thing during interviews,'' Smith said. ''But she has not spoken of the crime anymore. She said it all on the 911 tape. She said she had killed her children.''

Laney, he said, claimed that God ordered her to kill her sons.

The boys' deaths were announced Sunday to more than 200 members of the First Assembly of God Church, where Laney sang in the choir and her brother-in-law, Gary Bell, is the pastor.

Bell told his parishioners that he and his wife, Judy, would stand behind Laney.

''This was a brutal and horrific incident that has changed our lives (and will) for years to come,'' Bell said. ''But we all believe as a family that this wasn't our Dee that did this to her children.''

Another Texas woman, Andrea Yates of Houston, confessed to drowning her five children in a bathtub in June 2001 and was convicted of murder. The jury rejected defense pleas that Yates was innocent by reason of insanity. She was sentenced to life in prison and is not eligible for parole until 2041.

Do you think she is a religous fanatic that goes too far or just fucked up in the head? Hopefully they will give her the death penalty.

WTF!!!!! Being a mother myself, I just don't understand all of these people who are killing and hurting their kids. Parenting isn't easy, but come on! The safety of my child is foremost on my mind! These women have serious issues, and although they may be mental, derannged, whatever!! I don't have even a sympathetic hair on my body for them. I think that innnocence because of insanity is bullshit. I think people need to be held accountable for their actions and the insanity plea is over-used.

Does anyone remember Norm Macdonald's bit about the guy who killed his family cause the devil made him do it?

Hey, my Mom has a friend who went to their church. She says they were a normal type family. Details at 11. Or when I hear a bit more.

I'll echo the same sentiments that I did for Andrea Yates. Any parent, mother or father, that would go as far to kill their own children in such a brutal fashion, should no longer be allowed in society in any way. In other words:

Give-Her-The-Chair *clap clap clapclapclap*

Sounds like major schizophrenia to me. Of course I also believe in demonic influences so I can't rule that out either, especialyl considering how quick the news that she said "God" told her to do it got out and is given prominence, despite the obvious mental problems she's exhibiting in interviews.

People are crazy.

And what's sad is that I can totally see our legal system fucking up on this one and giving her life or locking her up in a mental institution instead of strapping her to the table like they should. The one time the death penalty's actually deserved, it won't be used.

Just saying.

<dies laughing> That was an inspired quote, Tom. I was thinking of Samuel telling Saul to "utterly destroy all that [the Amalekites] have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass," but yours was way better. I salute you!

YES.

"Okay, Satan, I have killed my family, dismembered their corpses with an axe, and stuffed their remains into this duffel bag, which I now offer unto you as a sacrifice, O hoary god of the netherworld."

*then the devil takes off his mask* "Hey, it's me, Bob!"

"Ohhhh!......Oh god....God, Bob......You really got me there, Bob! I mean.....got my family in a duffel bag......good one, Bob."

Norm rules. Nuff said.

Fuck that bullshit.

I somehow doubt that god "told" this woman to murder her children the way she did.

She deserves to die the exact same way she killed her children, then whoever kills her can use the excuse that god told him/her/it to do it.
