JUST so Vince can realize what is wrong with the Raw brand when it pulls in about 500,000 buys less than the Smackdown brand. Dames Wow, You really think that? I think SD will do WORSE in PPV. Same here. SD's lack of bankable stars and HORRIBLE choices of main events are going to KILL them. In all fairness, if the Split PPV's started around October or so, then I would have definitely agreed with my previous statement 100%. However, you guys are right about SD!'s current status. With that being said, even without the great wrestling and Smackdown Six matches we were getting then, Angle, Brock, Benoit, Guerrero's, Rey, Matt Hardy, Hogan and Undertaker would most likely get more buyrates than the Klique and Goldberg right now, I'd hope. Put into the equation that RAW in Canada "averaged a combined audience of 1.025 million viewers" (According to WWE Canada press release), I think there's quite a bit of back slapped going on @Titan Towers today... Although its good to see viewership up, I wish people would stay away just to constitute CHANGE...rising ratings will only promote the status quo. ARGH. I. With the "This Is Your Life" show, I watched having been conditioned that a 20 minute interview segment led to something. For example, someone tunes in during the 10:00-10:10 segment, likes what they see, and stays to watch the 10:10 to 10:20 segment, regardless of what that segment is. If that next segment sucks, they tune out, causing the 10:20-10:30 segment to have lower ratings, even though that viewer didn't even know what would be on. At least that is my opinion. The problem with this rating is that what did the WWE do last week to get it? The only thing I can see that would draw interest is Austin as commish and the Goldberg Cage match. You know how they're salivating to justify so much of him and all, being part of the highest rated quarter hour means more of the same, not a push for Christian or Hurricane. I don't think so...though it is reasonable to say that a mediocre Raw could get a ratings spike by sheer dumb luck or coincidence. The highest rated segment ever was an Austin/Taker match that ran over the 11:00 mark. The rating for "this is your life" was 8.1. The rating for the Austin/Taker match was 9.6. They made 2 big matches a week in advance, they advertised those two matches for a whole week....then wait here is the kicker They didn't do a god damn bait and switch. People tuned in a saw what they expected. Normally on Raw it seems like they di the switch in the first segment or something stupid like that and so people leave. Here they gave what was the advertised mains in I don't know how long. I would hope that accounted for a couple of tenths so they will keep the trend. Guest Downhome Report post Posted May 14, 2003 The show peaked with a 4.9 rating for the 10 p.m. quarter hour, which contained the Goldberg vs. Christian match and the Ric Flair vs. Hurricane encounter. Well that's f'n great, as those were my two personal favorite parts of RAW, heh. Oh, wait a sec... ...I didn't think Goldberg was a draw, and I also thought that Flair's day of being usefull for drawing was over also. Wait, that's just what many here have stated. Perhaps a lot of us "smarks" don't know as much as we think we do, in terms of knowing what draws for the casual fans that is. I wish we could see a break down of EACH segment each week, as I'm really interested in what Jericho/Nash pulled. Still, this rating isn't much to get TOO worked up over, let's just see if they can sustain a rating of 4.0+. I have always said that the ratings wouldn't mean much of anything untill they either went UNDER 3.0 or over 4.0, and for two of the past three or four weeks, they HAVE went over 4.0. Since they started pushing/promoting him differently than the first week or so since he debuted, the interest has been building little by little. Right now he's drawing/pulling in ratings, and one can not deny that. As for drawing buyrates, there is really no way to truly tell that anyhow, as I've said for years. Many fans don't order a PPV if there is only one match on it they want to see, it takes a solid card to really sale a PPV. Goldberg is basicly starting over, thus his new tights, music, and to an effect in-ring style. Give him a few months and then see if the PPV's start pulling in more buyrates, but like I said, even if they started doing really good there is really no way to tell if HE is drawing or not. Not only is it just common sense that higher ratings mean more income for WWE as a whole, but as Dave Scherer has said... They get paid a fee from Viacom for the rights. I am not sure what their split on ads is now, but in any event a better rating means more money in the long run. ...I asked him for specifics about this, and that's what he told me.
