I really liked it, but I do have some squabbles with it........

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

So Zion, the last resort for humanity......isn't the Zion people think it is. Way to go. That just basically demeaned every single iota of buildup for Zion by saying "Oh, this is Zion but it isn't real." So what can Neo do again? Fly? Ok. Anything else. In the first one he could alter others codes and fuck with them. Does he does this here? No. Neo looked like a pussy in this one. Morpheus dies in Generations, quite obviously. Neo "died" in the first one, Trinity "dies" in this......so, will they actually legit kill Morpheus?

He was a pussy taking on 50 Smith Agents? I wouldn't consider that being a pussy

I think I called the "I was disapointed thing"

Like I said, Im still gonna go see it, but be damned if Im gonna fight crowds of Matrix Geeks to see it this weekend, plus I'll probably be able to go into it with lowered expectations and enjoy it moreso.

carry on.

Well, I managed to get in to the 11 PM showing. And I gotta say that although I'm somewhat dissappointed after all the hype, overall I still liked it. Fight scenes were kick ass, Agent Smith's lines ruled it all, and the freeway scene was amazing.

However, being the middle movie of a trilogy, it had to be a plot driven movie. It couldn't dwell on any one thing in particular, it had to connect Matrix with Revolutions. I feel that's why the Brothers had to edit it like they did, kinda jump cutting around so they could cram it all in to 2 hours. Still, they did what they could to make it understandable.

Now, my take on the end:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

The Architect (isn't it spelled like that? He did build the Matrix after all) told Neo that this version of The Matrix was as close to perfect as he and The Oracle could create it. Given a choice, 99% of the population would gladly stay in it. However, that 1% "anomally" has to be accounted for, otherwise that 1% would eventually spread into the rest, eventually creating a majority. At that point, the Matrix itself would become unstable. So, to get the 1% out of the way, the machines created Zion for them to "escape" to. Then the machines created the Prophecy, giving the 1% someone to follow (aka, the One). This One would be endowed by the Matrix with the abilities Neo has, thereby fulfilling the Prophecy.

However, once the 1% becomes too big for the machines to control, they have to be culled. However, Zion has to still exist in some form for the continual 1% of the population to go to (sort of a holding pen). So, the One is told that Zion will be destroyed and that it is up to them to choose who will rebuild the society (total of 8 men, 16 women. Nice odds). The rest are killed off in the name of efficiency. The 5 Ones before Neo all chose to give up hope and exit out the door to the Source, thereby saving the remnant. Neo chose to reenter the Matrix, and keep hope alive that the machines themselves could be destroyed. When that happened his power over the Matrix's system became tangible in the "real" world, resulting in the EMP'd Sentinels. However, his body wasn't used to the shock, and he went into the coma.

OK feel free to :gas: it all you want. My head hurts trying to figure it all out at 2:30 in the morning. Best I can do.

That made perfect sense and said MUCH better than I could say it.

I think my final judgement on this movie will depend on Revolutions, because unlike the original I think these will need to be watched together. I will say that I liked it but was somewhat disappointed. There is way too much inane pseudo-philosophical babble, some scenes drag on too long, and other than the twins I wasn't all that impressed with the "new" special effects. I really liked the freeway scene because:

1. It looked great.

2. It was nice to see some old-fashioned agents instead of Smith (not that he wasn't good, but there was certainly enough of him in the movie).

3. I liked the triangular nature of what was happening: it wasn't just machines vs. humans, but instead you also had the twins who were working independently but towards the same goal.

The ending was ok but again it would be better to watch this then watch Revolutions, I think.

I will leave you with the words of Roger Ebert, who could not have said it any better:

Commander Lock: "Not everyone believes what you believe."

Morpheus: "My beliefs do not require that they do."

Characters are always talking like this in "The Matrix Reloaded," which plays like a collaboration involving a geek, a comic book and the smartest kid in Philosophy 101. Morpheus in particular unreels extended speeches that remind me of Laurence Olivier's remarks when he won his honorary Oscar--the speech that had Jon Voight going "God!" on TV, but in print turned out to be quasi-Shakespearean doublespeak. The speeches provide not meaning, but the effect of meaning: It sure sounds like those guys are saying some profound things.

That will not prevent fanboys from analyzing the philosophy of "The Matrix Reloaded" in endless Web postings. Part of the fun is becoming an expert in the deep meaning of shallow pop mythology; there is something refreshingly ironic about becoming an authority on the transient extrusions of mass culture, and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) now joins Obi-Wan Kenobi as the Plato of our age.

One more thing: I think showing Final Flight of the Osiris before the movie would have been a good idea.

Ok I saw the 10:30 show last night here in CA. ($9.00 here). First off, let me say that the whole Matrix-fighting scheme has worn thin a little since I first saw it. I really don't need every other bullet, jump, kick, punch, flip, landing etc.....to be shown in slow motion. By this movie, we should all understand how it works by now. Secondly, This movie kind of just destroyed everything that the first movie built us all up into believing. That isn't a necessarily bad thing, but it was kind of frustrating. I think the freeway/highway scene MADE THIS MOVIE. Without it, I would have merely thought this movie was average.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Someone said the other survivor was agent smith, I am assuming they are talking about who the camera panned to as the movie ended. I dunno, to me that looked NOTHING like agent smith. Unless it was supposed to be a human that the program Agent smith was based from!?! If I understand this correctly, if Neo would have gone to the source, all it would have done was basically start the whole zion/matrix process over? And so, he figured, screw that, we can destroy all the machines manually(or some other way) ?? MAJOR POSSIBLE SPOILER: I read somewhere that Trinity ends up being an agent. I doubt it is true though. Oh well always nice to spread the bullshit~!

Thanks mole and Bacchus. Just wanted to show that I was open to discussion on the ending and was willing to listen to reason, as it were. That and it was an way to early in the morning attempt at humor that apparently failed miserably :) .

I saw it for free. :D Radio station contests rule.

I've already posted the review of it, which you can find right here.

As for the end...

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Remember when former Agent Smith "assimilated" that guy at the beginning of the movie, then got absorbed into the phone line? I'm pretty certain that's him recovering next to Neo at the end. Also, that Trinity-is-an-agent rumor is just that: a rumor, and a rather silly one. There has been *nothing* in either movie to suggest that she is, and for her to magically reveal herself as one in Revolutions would be uber-cheap.

Tom-

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I'm quite sure you're correct, sir. At the end they mention how the 5 ships that went on the counter-attack mission against the machines got fucked up somehow and I'm quite sure it's the undercover Agent Smith that's behind it. It's now 1:20 here in Canada and I've had about 12 hours to take the movie in and I still really enjoy it, though I don't think it fully lived up to it's potential. The Architects speech was pretty mind-blowing, though. Wouldn't mind getting a transcript of it and going through it word for word because it's way too much to take in at the theatre. Was I hearing things or did he say that The Oracle is basically a program that was designed for human research who went awry?

I really loved it, all the massively-hyped movies always get shit on afterwards by people who hate mainstream stuff, I don't buy it, the movie was good.

WARNING FOR ALL PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT:

Do not go home people, there's a Revolutions preview after the credits, I didn't stay but my mate did, I'm spewing, apparently it's MAD!!

Onto my take on the ending and stuff:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

The Architect (yes, that's the spelling, it's true what they say about Americans and literacy... :bonk: ) alluded to a second anomaly, a female anomaly, who Neo assumed to be The Oracle, the Architect scoffed at the suggestion and continued. Neo never really pushed him on the matter. I think Trinity is the second anomaly. Morpheus' character in Revolutions will be really, really interesting. His unbreakable faith has to be broken by the one he believes in entirely, Neo. To answer an earlier question, yes, the other survivor of the sentinels attack was Agent Smith, in the form of the 'soldier' he 'assimilated' (to borrow a term from earlier) at the beginning of the movie. He had been infiltrating the army all the way through and it was him who set off the EMP early and disabled the forces counter-attacking the machines. I'm not too sure on Smith's motives here, but it would seem he is looking to become some form of all-powerful entity. I can't wait 'til Revolutions, so many questions to answer, just wish I'd stayed for the goddamn preview!! I'm gonna see it again next week.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

possible other annomalies are Agent Smith or The French Guy. I believe these possiblities because Agent Smith was able to cross over to the "real world" and the French Guy has the ability to control code like Neo does as in the case for the Orgasm by Chocolate scene.

Don't like my spelling too bad :D

Fuck, I'm not even going to try to figure out all this shit all of the rest of you are........the story was all too confusing and complicated for this small brain of mine to fathom. With that said, there certainly was some parts that really went too long with dialogue and everything, but it was made up for it with those few insane fight scenarios. I'm sure everything will make more sense by the 3rd one, so I guess I enjoyed it enough, still liked the 1st one much better though, everything was more cleanly put together or something.

I'm seeing it again tonight, but I've got a question for those who've already checked it out AND watched the Generations trailer afterwards.....

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

So did I read correctly? Agent Smith was at one time or another in Neo's place and had to choose who to take to Zion with him? I remember reading somewhere that Smith was the last human in Zion but does the trailer for Generations do anything to give us the indication that more of Smiths past will come out?

One thing you have to remember Blue, there was no FX back then. I am sure if there was, Lucas would of but a whole bunch of it in the film.

Sir as a student of film I am offended by your blanket statement that FX didn't exist when Star Wars came out.

Computer FX might not have existed but Special Effects have existed since the begining of cinema.

I won't spoil anything for you.

And it's Revolutions not Generations.

I have another question for those who have seen it......

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Was the guy who tried to kill Neo in human form with the knife(right before he gets on the elevator to leave zion) Agent Smith after he transferred into Zion through the telephone? I mean, he tried to kill Neo, and then I don't remember seeing him for the rest of the movie. He didn't happen to be the other survivor on that table did he?? Oh and how about Roy Jones Jr....haha, not a bad job actually.

Yes that was Smith and yes that was the guy on the table at the end. He also tried to get Roy Jones Jr. to volunteer to go after the Nebuchadnezzer

It was every bit as good as the first one. For anyone debating on whether to see this or X-Men 2, this is the film to see.

Yeah I agree with that sentiment, went through some boring drawn out scenes in the first half hour easily, but picked up soon enough. The effects they were able to impliment in this film STILL amaze me a day later. Cant wait to see all of the "making of" vignettes on the DVD down the road.
