Guest Mole Report post Posted May 16, 2003 This is from EW.com: Looks like plenty of people were happy to take the red pill and plunge back into the Matrix. ''The Matrix Reloaded'' grossed $42,475,000 on its opening day Thursday, AOL Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons announced on Friday. (AOL Time Warner is the parent company of distributor Warner Bros., as well as of EW.com.) Of course, ''Reloaded'' was all but guaranteed to have the biggest opening ever, since it's playing on 8,500 screens in 3,600 theaters. That $42 million figure tops the previous opening day record, set last year by ''Spider-Man'' ($39.4 million), and it puts the movie on track to challange the three-day opening record of $114.8 million ''Spider-Man'' set during its first weekend. Imagine the grosses if Keanu Reeves' Neo could shoot webs from his wrists Wow, I was wrong when I said Matrix wasn't going to make that much money because it was rated R. Wow, wow, wow. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted May 16, 2003 It's got an awesome chance at beating Spider-Man at this point. Not that I'm thrilled, a record is broken every month these days.

Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Damn. I guess I shouldn't be too suprised though. The Matrix has had a couple years to get a bigger audiance on video and DVD, and the sequel has been hugly anticipated. I plan on seeing it this week. Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted May 17, 2003 42 million one day is just fucking ungodly. Just imagine what it will be like within the week.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted May 17, 2003 42 on Thursday, it'll probably make even more than that tonight. By Sunday, I'm predicting 150 Million.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Aiyaaaaaaah... ditto. question, how much did X2 made the first day? I believe that it was around $32-35 million - which I think one of the producers predicted would be shattered by Matrix Reloaded. They were right.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted May 17, 2003 dear god.... bye bye spidey... christ thats a lot of money, not suprised much though... i knew ALOT of people seeing it that day (some skipped school/work to see it twice)
Guest Mole Report post Posted May 17, 2003 42 on Thursday, it'll probably make even more than that tonight. By Sunday, I'm predicting 150 Million. I'm going out on the limb and saying it won't make that much. Most of the hardcore fans saw it the first day, that's why it made so much. Plus the fact it is on 7,200 screens, that is a big ass number of screens. The average won't be that high because of all the screens, and sometimes the average means just as much, my guess. It won't stay number one next week though, that movie with Jim Carrey is coming out, which will make LOADS of money also.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Is there concrete numbers how much it made just from the Weds night shows AND is that taken into account on these Thursday numbers? If so, this number MIGHT not be touched again for an all time record for one day sales, unless every blockbuster does the same thing now with actually starting the film the night before. " Bruce Almighty " will be a hit, but it won't be # 1. The Matrix: Reloaded will be #1 until either " The Italian Job " or THE DIESEL - LESS WONDER Known As " 2 Fast 2 Furious " comes along. Guest Pegasus Kid Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Is there concrete numbers how much it made just from the Weds night shows AND is that taken into account on these Thursday numbers? These are separate figures. Matrix: Reloaded destroyed the "Sneak Peak Record" on Wednesday previously owned by Jurassic Park (around 3 million dollars) with a 9.3 million dollar take (that's for shows that played from 10:00 - 10:30pm IIRC). The 42 million figure is for the actual opening day gross.

For a sneak peek, that alone is impressive. But JESUS, that's alot of money for a one day total. I'm seeing it tomorrow!

"The Italian Job" will be number one? Ya think so? I highly doubt that, but we will see. "Bruce Almighty" will be number one next week. This is Jim Carrey's first comedy role like this since "Me, Myself and Irene", and has the actress that American loves, Jennifer Aniston. It is PG-13, so little kids can see this movie also. I'll probably be wrong, again, when it comes to prediction box office numbers. If never good at that anyway, but I just want to see Matrix get de-throwned by "Bruce Almighty." Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 17, 2003 The Wednesday night numbers ARE added into the Thursday total. ALL movies do that. Any movie that has a night before sneak preview adds those numbers into the first day numbers. Jurassic Park did it as well. Official story from Box Office Mojo.... "The hotly anticipated middle movie of the Wachowski Bros.' cyber-epic raked in an incredible $42,508,303 at 3,603 theaters on Thursday, storming past the $30,141,471 that Attack of the Clones posted on this same day last year as the biggest weekday gross ever. That raw number also stands as the highest opening day ever, ahead of Spider-Man's $39,406,872. However, there's an asterisk next to that record as Reloaded's Wednesday night previews were folded into the Thursday gross." The thing is.....the early projection of 9-10 million dollars turned out to be way off. The actual numbers look to be closer to 5 million for Wednesday night. Still beats JP's record but those numbers are not as amazing as they originally thought. Subtract that numer from the Thursday total and you still have about 38 million for Thursday. A great opening day but NOT enough to beat Spiderman without cheating.

I'll make my official prediction after I know Reloaded's final weekend #'s ( Sunday ) But, don't sleep on " The Italian Job " it'll do better than many people think. I know i'm hyped up for it. I'm pretty sure Spider Man did a similar trick, although all of its "sneak previews" started at 12:01 so that they would begin on a Friday.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Italian Job will not be #1, it will be lucky if it made $15 million. There are too many action movies out and this Marky Mark project will just another victim to the Super hero movies. The Hulk will be the movie to knock Reloaded off the #1 spot. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted May 17, 2003 from boxofficeguru- Dropping 26.6% from its massive opening day, The Matrix Reloaded downloaded another $31.2M on Friday, according to preliminary estimates. If the estimates hold, Reloaded would have the fourth highest Friday gross in history, following Spider-Man which made $39.4M on its opening day last year (including night-before previews), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which made $32.3M on its opening day in November of 2001, and X2 from two weekends ago, which made just over $31.2M on its opening day (also including night-before previews). Reloaded had a higher percentage drop Thursday-to-Friday than Star Wars Episode II did this same weekend last year. Episode II dropped 18% from its opening day tally, but the higher drop for Reloaded was expected. Episode II had preview showings starting at midnight while Reloaded had previews starting at 10pm, meaning more people would be able to attend the late night showings for Reloaded. Also, the anticipation for Reloaded was arguably higher than for Episode II, and the die-hard fans would want to see the movie on opening day. Over the three-day weekend, Reloaded could hit $92-97M with its four-day total going up to $135-140M. In a dead-heat for second place were X2 and Daddy Day Care both with estimates of $4.9M. Both movies should end up in the $16M range for the weekend and will continue the battle for second. Landing in fourth place was the only other new release this weekend, Down With Love which grossed $2.3M in its first day of wide release. The Ewan McGregor/Renée Zellweger collaboration could take in $7-9M over the entire weekend session. For a review of The Matrix Reloaded visit The Chief Report. Be sure to check back on Sunday for the complete weekend box office report featuring official studio estimates.

Um... it won't be #1, but will make WAY OVER $15Mil. Reloaded will not be knocked off by " The Hulk ". Reloaded will enjoy 2 weeks on top before being knocked off by " 2 Fast 2 Furious " , which will also hold 2 weeks until " The Hulk " takes it away. And yeah, I know what your going to say... " 2 Fast 2 Furious SUCKS... it should BOMB... blah, blah, blah " Face facts, folks... it will not BOMB. People (myself as well ) are going to see this. Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 17, 2003 I undertand that Fast & Furious has a following but I believe that there are more sci-fi fans than say street car racing fans and besides Vin Diesil is not in the sequel, I don't believe Paul Walkers or the acting singers & rappers can carry this movie. It will be top 10 but it will not be #1. Reloaded will be #1 for a long time. Italian Job looks ok but come on Marky Mark as the lead character? Whats up with that? Ed Nortan........hell Jason Strathan are better actors than Marky Mark.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Eh, everyone has their own opinions. But, I still believe it'll be #1. Also, in case you forgot TFATF was a " Surprise Hit ". Few people knew who Vin Diesel was back then, it wasn't until after that when he became Mr. XXX / Mr. 1 Million Dollar Man, & has 800+ movies that he has signed on to. Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Don't get me wrong, fans of Pitch Black (myself included) knew who Mr. Diesel was. But, Pitch Black didn't put $20Mil a movie in his Pocket. Also, nice to see that this has turned into a plain old " Debate " without everyone getting heated. Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Pitch Black got people thinking that Vin was an action star, Fast & Furious made him a draw, XXX was his 1st lead role movie and he got paid for it. Paul Walker, well I have not followed his career but I do believe he is not in Vin's league. I can't remember if that movie about that truck driver stalking him made any money if it did I will give credit to the female lead.

Fuckers butchering a Lancer Evo for that movie. *hiss* It's even WORSE what they did to the god of Japanese Sport Cars, The Nissan Skyline R-34 GTR..seeing what they did to one of my favorite cars(It was the Motorex Skyline Blackbird..badass machine and powered by..A`PEXi if I remember right..god amoung tuner shops). As from listed on DSMtuners.com about the Eclipse Step 1: Tune-up, replace all fluids, and check recalls (like the transfer-case and O2 sensor). Step 2: Determine your goals before you start buying parts. What's your target 1/4 time? Step 3: Forget everything you saw on the Fast and the Furious. Think tuning, not NOS. Step 4: Choose your car below to see popular upgrade paths and results... I don't think the Jim Carrey movie will make that much, maybe it'll debut at number 2..but debuting at #1 over Matrix:Reloaded? I doubt it, I'm not saying the movie won't make a ton of money..jus' saying I don't think it'll debut at #1..not in it's first week at least.
