Bored 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2003 The first A.L. voting results are out (N.L. tommorrow). Unfortunently Giambi is leading at 1st but Delgado is close so I suggest everyone vote for Delgado as he has by far the best numbers of any A.L. first baseman. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 28, 2003 I just hope the league prevents Matshui and Giambi from making the team. What's so bad about Giambi? Sure, he's having a bad year, but he's been outstanding the last four years, and he's easily the most recognizable first baseman in the league. I wouldn't vote for him, but his winning wouldn't offend me the way David Bell almost did. What about setup men. Hawkins, Hasagewa, and Shuey are all having great years and the latter two have ERA's under 1.00. None of the three have pitched 30 innings yet. Give them time, those ERAs will climb. I think teams should have two closers MAX, and the rest should be starters. There's no comparison, IMO, between a starter and a reliever.

This is why fan voting should be abolished.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 28, 2003 I'm not saying he deserves to start. I'm just saying his selection wouldn't greatly offend me. I've voted for Delgado on my ballots personally, but I have no problem with a guy who's put up .400+ OBPs the last four years. I simply don't trust two months of stats. Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Two weeks, I could see...one month, even. But TWO months pretty much tells me everything I need to know about what kind of year the guy's going to have. Jason Giambi simply does not deserve to be an all-star at all this year. I mean, that'd be similar to voting for Willie Mays during that HORRIBLE last year he had with the Mets.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Delgado will end up winning at 1st. Just a feeling the league won't let someone with Giambi's numbers win.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Why not? They let Ripkin in. Regarding Giambi, it seems he's been having eye problems this season, which would explain his lack of hitting. All this said, I do hope Delgado makes it as a starter.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Ripken is Ripken and he didn't deserve to win the last couple of seasons. If the Giambi's eyes are a problem. He should think about sitting. He isn't helping the team.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Or maybe if Giambi is voted the starter he should be a man and decline the spot and not play but I doubt it...BECAUSE HE'S THE PUSSY WHO WENT AND SIGNED WITH IS FORMER TEAM'S DIRECT COMPETITION, A TEAM WHO BEAT HIS FORMER TEAM TWO YEARS IN A ROW IN THE PLAYOFFS AND MIGHT HAVE WON IF HIS FAT FUCK BROTHER KNEW HOW TO SLIDE!!!!!! Whoops sorry went off on a little tagent there.

Whoops sorry went off on a little tagent there. I think he might of been safe on that play. Posada just barely grazed his front leg before it touched home although I've always thought the umpire called him out because Posada tagged his back leg but in the end he was out and should have FUCKIN' SLID! And I'm pissed about the Twins tonight too!

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 30, 2003 1st Base is not a strong position. Todd Helton has inflated stats. However by the All Star-break Jim Thome will have deserving numbers and I think he'll still win at 1st. The outfield looks like a 5 man race for 1 spot.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Helton's numbers are inflated, but he's still a great hitter. There is a tremendous drop off after the top 3.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Helton's road numbers .268 2 hr's 13 bi's 16 runs and a .415 slugging % in 25 games.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 So, does Shea's vote totals move over to the NL now that he is a Diamondback? He'd be in second in the NL
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 30, 2003 True Vern, but through 2000-2002, Helton hit .306/.402/.573 in 846 at bats.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Don't know. Although with the lead Rolen has it wouldn't matter.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Hillenbrand's votes will be transfered to the N.L. but as already pointed it out it won't matter with Rolen already having a sizeable lead.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Okay its Monday so I'll update my All-Star picks again. This week with the first voting update out last week I'm going to put players on the team that I think will voted in as starters. Not all of them are leading at this point but its how I think things will shake out and of course it can change from week to week. They will be listed in CAPS. Players not listed last week will have an * next to their name. This week I've decided to go with eight outfielders in each league because there are just too many one team all-stars at that position. Also the request of the Vern Gagne I took a look at some set-up men and I did pick one for the A.L. team but its not someone he had suggested but this pitcher's numbers jumped out at me (0.32 ERA, 28 innings pitched, 31 strike outs, 15 hits allowed). AMERICAN LEAGUE C: JORGE POSADA, New York; A.J. Bored 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Why do you have Matsui on the team? Read what I said. I listed players that I believe will be voted as starters. Believe me I would NEVER put Matsui on the team but once the Japanese voting kicks in (I don't believe they were counted in the first voting update last week) he'll make the top 3. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Sorry didn't see that part. I hate all-star voting.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I didn't think the next A.L. update was until tommorrow but its out today and Matsui actually dropped from 5th to 6th. Berine Williams is still 3rd and actually if he's still hurt by then it won't be the worst thing for him to be voted the starter because someone deserving would get his spot and no one would be snubbed. Giambi's lead on Delgado has shrunk some this week. First Base Player Team Total Votes Giambi, Ja. Yankees 182,654 Delgado, C. Blue Jays 163,217 Palmeiro, R. Rangers 118,574 Sweeney, M. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I think Giambi might have a good chance at winning. The Japanese voters tend to vote for teammates of Japanese players.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted June 3, 2003 The reason that happened in 2001 was that Mariners games were broadcast in Japan, so that's all the Japanese voters saw.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Remember Mike Cameron almost was voted in last year. Japanese voters follow the M's and they see Cameron plays for the Mariners so their more inclined to vote for him. They at least have an excuse.
