Guest Downhome Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 1) Roy Orbison He's not in the genre I focused on, but Orbison was indeed tremendous. It's my belief that "Pretty Woman" is the best rock song ever recorded. Orbison just emotes so fucking well on every note he sings... it's incredible. Van Halen's remake can't hold the proverbial candle to Orbison's original. It's too bad that most never even think of, much less mention him, when talking about this.
Guest welshjerichomark Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Like everyone else i think Freddie Mercury, also i like: Meat Loaf Axl Rose (who is also one of the sexiest men of all time) Aretha Franklin Tina Turner Ronan Keating, although nearly all of his solo songs have sucked, he has a beautiful voice.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Jeff Buckley tops my list. Dionne Warwick runs him close.
Guest goodhelmet Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 for males, freddy mercury no question although geoff tate showed incredible range in his day. for females, this one is hard... i really love gladys knight. i think she would be my favorite female vocalist... yeah, neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye.
Guest spiny norman Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I think for females Whitney Houston. She had a beautiful voice, and I think Mariah Carey wishes she could be more like Whitney. As for males, I'm suprised Prince has had so many votes. His voice is unique, yes, but it's more what I'd label as "different" than "best". I think it is quite good though. Personally, I'd go Elvis or Roy Orbison as #1.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Male: Steven Tyler Female: Pat Benatar
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Out of the many that no one has mentioned: Sammy Hagar David Coverdale Dean Martin (Better than Sinatra) My favorites: Jim Morrison Elvis Presley Axl Rose Bon Scott Brian Johnson
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I love Martin and I think he was better than Sinatra in style, but Sinatra was the better technical singer and had the most exquiste breath control you'll ever find this side of an opera singer. Every June I go to the Dean Martin festival in his hometown of Steubenville, Ohio. They always bring in these two impersonators, one a Martin the other a Sinatra, who are spot on vocally.
Guest Renegade Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Freddy Mercury, followed distantly by Axl Rose.
Guest TheGregWitul Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Billie Holiday. She poured so much emotion into her singing, from 'Strange Fruit' to 'Loverman', nobody sang quite like Billie... j.
