Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted May 24, 2003 Fuck, I think she did well all things considering. Besides, it's stupid for people to critize ONE tourney so much. Give her a couple more and if she doesn't do well, then I could see the case of the scrutiny. But geezus, she just did it once. Lay off the arguement of her doing "bad or good". You can't judge a person by one performance.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 24, 2003 What is wrong with scrutiny? Is that off limits because she's a woman? I'm pointing out the problems she'll have playing on PGA golf courses, and why she played poorly today.

I just mean it's one tourney she's trying out for. Plus with all that damned media and people following around her, and everything else, I can't really help but think that she needs to be seen as another player of golf (albeit on the men's tour), and adjusted to having that much spotlight on her before the scrutiny can really fly. You know, have as much attention as she did this tourney, I mean, wouldn't YOU be overwhelmed?
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted May 24, 2003 God I'm glad I don't give a crap about this issue. By the way, is the PGA set up for only men to play or is it one of those things where any sex can participate but it has always been men that played?... Guest MrRant Report post Posted May 24, 2003 PGA has no gender rules.
Guest PencilJobber Report post Posted May 24, 2003 Annika did prove alot ot critics wrong but was all that stuff with the Media saying she could definatly win a PGA tour event one day on that first day she hit the ball nearly as perfectly as she could and still only scored a 71 given with great putting it would have been say a 68ish and that was her at her best so saying she would definatly win a tournament someday which i heard a few journalists say was over stating her impact a little too much in my oppionion. I think if she played on the tour a few more times you could maybe make the cut and finish top 20 but i can't see her winning an event also i saw 1 guy say he has never seen a round like that in his life what the fuck she hit a 71 when have you ever seen any golfer hit over Par and have people say they played the best round ever seen. She played well but people are making way too much out of it IMO. Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted May 24, 2003 Everyone's also overlooking the fact that Annika didn't even say that she was trying to win. She wanted to see how well she could do in a men's PGA tour event. Also to whomever said she didn't have the length to hang with the boys, her av. drive was up there in the top 5-10 IIRC and was around 268(???). Too bad she didn't make the cut but she definitely silenced those critics who said she would bomb. One other thing to add, she was crying in the tent due to the pressure from the media. I'm surprised she played so well with that much scrutiny.

It was definetly unfair to her to have that many cameras following her around. She says that was it for her. Maybe another LPGA player will wanna try, but unless one can qualify for the tour, the media won't treat her any differently.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 25, 2003 She couldn't win, but neither could 3/4 of the field. They deserve to play. Why should she be any different? Any legitimate sports media knew she had no chance to win, and would very likely not make the cut.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted May 26, 2003 I couldn't believe she didn't make the cut. Thought she'd make it. Oh well, just a bad tourney for her, but I don't think she did as horrible as everyone said she would. Nerves got her, and that was it. I'm further saddened that she won't be willing to accept another invitation elsewhere.
