Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Just wondering if there is any known reason on how Bobby Heenan landed the Brainbusters (Arn and Tully) and then later Ric Flair when he came over to the WWF. Was it coincidence? Did Vince feel they needed someone to give them a heel rub?
Guest Dmann2000 Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 C'mon, Heenan was made for the Horsemen. I still remember Arn's shoot where he said if Ric came over in 89 with him Tully and Barry "can you imagine, the 4 Horsemen managed by Bobby Heenan in 1989?"
Guest alkeiper Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 In his book, Heenan said it was Vince's idea that he manage Ric Flair. It only lasted a few matches, however, as Heenan wanted to stop taking bumps and get away from managing.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Yeah, I just think it was a good match of personalities and putting Heenan with incoming guys who may not have been that familiar to WWF fans was a good way to give them quick heel heat.
King Cucaracha Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 For Flair's 'Real World's Champion' gimmick to work, they needed the heel commentator to get behind him to build him up, and Heenan just happened to be a manager as well. Anderson and Blanchard as Deacon said needed the heat. Putting them with the Heenan Family was the perfect way to do it.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 hell Heenan fit the Horseman mold more than JJ Dillon did as a manager. The fact of the matter was that Vince never brought the Horseman in as a group or at the same time.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 If the Four Horsemen made a Radicalz-like debut in the WWF, that would've been the best ever.
