Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 What do you think the best federation in the history of the sport is??? I had a hard time with this one, don't get upset if I didn't include your federation so please post your favorite if I didn't include it.......
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Late 80's NWA. Specifically around 1987-1989 was the best workrate wise. 1997 was the best angle wise, for both companies(Hart/Austin war, nWo).
Guest HBK16 Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 This is a tuffy. I was gonna go with ECW but they lacked a lot to be considered the best out of the ones listed. I went with Early 90's WCW. The early 90's WCW is what originally got me into wrestling.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I'm going with ECW. I know it isn't the right answer. But 1995-2001 ECW is far more exciting then any other 6 year span for any other wrestling company...to me anyway.
Guest HBK16 Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I was a Foley follower so where Foley went I was ussually there. I picked early WCW for two reason, it got me into wrestling and because of Foley. I I skipped out on WCW around 1993 and stopped watching wrestling period. Then I got ino ECW when Foley got in it around 1995. I couldnt really follow him into Japan because I couldnt get a hold of any tapes at that time. I never really liked the WWF but it was alright around 1997. Each federation has their time but I cant really consider ECW or WWF the best federation because they didnt eally interest me as much as early WCW. Dont get me wrong, I loved ECW. They had great times but they werent the best.
Guest Tim Cooke Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Tons of criteria is needed for any reasonable picks. All companies have had their peaks and valleys. NWA/WCW: Two periods that spring to mind are: 1986 when every angle was on fire, including the ability to be able to run Dusty v Flair on one house show circuit and Midnight Express v Rock n Roll Express on the other circuit. 1996-1997 with the NWO on top and the above solid undercard lead to great things. Starrcade 96 is the height of this with Sting v Hogan at Starrcade 97 being the $$$. WWF/E: 1999-2000. 1999 brought the tremendous ratings success while 2000 brought more influence on wrestling (even if it still stunk). Not sure about PPV buys but TV ratings were sound and the company was financially on top of the world. NJPW: 10/95-4/96. NJPW v UWF-I, the angle that sparked the NWO, sold out 3 consecutive Tokyo Domes, plus sold out plenty of smaller houses. 60,000+, 3 times within 7 months is incredible. AJPW: 1993-1996. Sold out over 14 straight Bukodan Shows (16,000+) while putting on world class wrestling. Those are the top companies. ECW was an Indy, the Japanese Indy's didn't run buildings more than 10,000 max. Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 The WWF from about Wrestlemania 2 until the Diesel title win in late 1994 is by far my favourite period in wrestling history.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 NWA. WWF/E in second, but Mid-South/UWF just behind. I mark out for Bill Watts.
Guest razazteca Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I enjoyed CMLL 2002 but Galavision basically showed the same match ups every week. I never got tired of Shocker vs Guerreros de Inferino or Dr Wagner as tag champ. WWF had the best Main Event while WCW had the best midcard and ECW was hardcore, 90s was great. NWA had tag team wrestling which always got my attention. And remember face paint rules.
Guest tank_abbott Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Since the WWE/F is the only one to not go out of business, I pick them
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Jim Crockett Promotions (NWA) 85-89
Guest Memphis Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Old All Japan owns everything on that list.
Guest Cover of Darkness Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 There are three canidates: NWA 85-89 WWF 2000 AJPW 95
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 80's NWA. WWF drew me in, but watching stuff from that era made me a true fan.
Guest wildpegasus Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Favourites: 1)AJW for the better part of the 90's. Toyota, Kong, Kyoko Inoue, Takako Inoue, Hokuto, Shimoda, Mita, Malenko, and Hasegawa made this the league the most fun ever. The fact that they had so many interpromotional matches just made everything sweeter. 2)All Japan for the better part of the 90's as well. The matchups were just simply put incredable. 3)New Japan: Not for their heavyweight division but for their cruiserweight division. Benoit, Lyger, Sano, Samurai, Otani, Dynamite, Tiger Mask, Cobra, Owen, Davey Boy, Fujinami, Hase, and Takada made this division fantastic 4) Stampede-Late 70's-Early 80's Just for Dynamite Kid's work alone.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 My favorite NWA 1985-89 . I started with WWF 1984 but once we got cable, NWA got me hooked as a fan. Mid-South 1985-86 TBS picked this up to put on Sunday nights and it was dramatic and captivating. My first memory of blood in wrestling was Jake Roberts DDT ing Terry Taylor on a chair in an impromptu brawl. ECW1995-98 Most of this is watching tapes but it's great stuff.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I picked 80s NWA, but mainly because I saw more of it than my other other two finalists. (UWF/Midsouth and early ECW). Any federation that had Flair, Road Warriors, the Midnites, Ole and Arn, etc. has to be my top choice.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I'm going with the Attitude reason mainly because it got me into wrestling, so I remember it fondly...
Guest BAR Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 (edited) I've loved all of those feds at different periods, so I can't decide: NWA/WCW: 80's is self explanitory, nWo period had it's high points and it's low points. NJPW: 90's junior shit can't get old, haven't seen much heavies. AJPW: 90's heavies own, ain't watched in about 3 years, though. ECW: the Cactus era is spectacular. '97 I started disliking the product, (N2R) except Barely Legal. I really got into it again in the last years, Tag Tournie, Lynn/RVD: all this shit picked up again. WWF: The 80's, no matter how bad it was at times, it's nostalgia, just gotta love it. I love everything up to '98, I haven't watched much since then. I watched Judgment Day, though. Now, I know why I don't watch it. Other: Stampede, Dynamite, Bret, Owen, the worst commentator ever, what more could you ask for?! Edited May 23, 2003 by BAR
Guest Lemon Drop Kid Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 "WWF Attitude Era" "80's WWF" and "WWE" are not really different feds ya know.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 "WWF Attitude Era" "80's WWF" and "WWE" are not really different feds ya know. obviously you have had quite the time figuring that out. They are totally different periods in wrestling thought Einstein........
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 (edited) Then why not say era, Galileo? sorry, I figured that you would be able to figure it out. IT SAYS ERA SO, there you go...... Edited June 4, 2003 by dynamite1980
Guest two_tuff_toddy Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I would say 90-98 All Japan is the best as they put out far better product than any fed ever from what I've seen. NWA/WCW from 1987-1992 would definitely be a close 2nd. AJW in the early 90's would probably be right there as well but I haven't seen enough of it to say that fairly.
Guest oxymoron Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Being a Joshi mark, and i may be bias, but it's easily AJW 92-95. They simply put amazing cards one after another imo.
