Some Observer TNA Notes, Raven Signed Contract

Recommended Posts

Guest BoboBrazil

-Politically Jeff Jarrett has the upperhand now over Russo and is in good shape as there was a feeling that Russo and Raven had complained so much about Jarrett to Dixie Carter that it backfired on them. Russo appeared backstage at the 5/7 show like he had been taken down a notch and he was a beaten man.

-The owners of TNA would like to turn Jeff heel.

-Raven and TNA signed a contract a few days after the 4/30 show, so the whole angle of him without a contract is a work.

-After the 4/30 show, there was a loud fight between Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo. Russo and Gilberti thought the content of the show was bad. Most people thought it was a good show, but noone was defending all the runins and Jarrett surviving so much before winning the match.

-Shows in early April were doing 10,000-12,000 buys, but the 4/23 show looks to be much lower than that while the 4/30 show seems much higher.

-There has been discussion on if building several weeks to one major show is the way to go. Bob Ryder and Dixie Carter are both in favor of this, while Jeff Jarrett is opposed to it feeling afraid that people would pick up on this and only buy the major shows.

Well, I guess I understand Russo's and Raven's feelings, since Jarrett seems more center of attention crazy.

-The owners of TNA would like to turn Jeff heel.

...why does this NOT surprise me? Could it be the fact that EVERY fan on the 4/30 show just booed the finish of the match?

-Raven and TNA signed a contract a few days after the 4/30 show, so the whole angle of him without a contract is a work.

Heh, so it looks like I was right about this really being a work, cause in Raven's latest interview he said he was signed. Now, not saying I said it from the start, just since that interview.

-After the 4/30 show, there was a loud fight between Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo. Russo and Gilberti thought the content of the show was bad. Most people thought it was a good show, but noone was defending all the runins and Jarrett surviving so much before winning the match.

Heh, I like how no one defends all the run ins and Jarrett walking away.

Although, isn't it funny that Gilberti complained and is now main eventing? If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was to silence him or something.

 Sorry, my WWE pissiness of how things are run there has gotten the better of me. Ignore the last thing I stated. (ie: I left it the previous line on, cause I don't edit anything out of my post unless it's grammatical err, or I can word it better).

...again, do we wonder why so many turned in on the 4/30 show? Because everyone thought destiny was going to be fulfilled.

Ok. If there is actual build then people will stay for the whole thing. Although, I can see Jarrett's point of view (ie: WWE and how it's PPVs and regular shows are run nowadays).

Can't there be a wrestling company without all this stupid backstage crap.

There has been discussion on if building several weeks to one major show is the way to go. Bob Ryder and Dixie Carter are both in favor of this, while Jeff Jarrett is opposed to it feeling afraid that people would pick up on this and only buy the major shows.

This is an interesting conundrum. On one hand, they could build to single major shows (perhaps monthly, when Australia can also buy) and run the risk of people being disinterested in the buildup and therefore only buying the major shows. On the other hand, each show could be built as equal in importance and they would be running the risk of too much routine.

I for one don't think that the last option is viable. Whereas you may be more likely to have fans buy every show following the last option, I don't think new fans would be attracted, which is pretty much the kiss of death for a company like TNA. While it is true that buyrates will probably fluctuate and not as many will buy the "buildup shows" as the major ones, the positive in this situation are also great. If major shows are promoted as such (like the Raven/Jarrett World Title match), new fans are more likely to be attracted to see what everyone is talking about, and if they are pleased with what they see, they are very likely to keep buying shows every week (especially if said fans are upset with WWE and looking for a new alternative). Regardless of which may be viewed as "buildup shows" and which may not, I am certain there would be some that would buy every broadcast purely for the quality, if TNA can keep it up every week. My point? TNA would gain the most important commodity a fledgling promotion can attain: a steadily-growing fanbase, which equals PROSPERITY.

It's interesting. Still, I don't think they can truly put ALL the focus like that onto one show until they have a TV Deal. But, if they put at least one or two matches that look to be good, they can afford to build up to a big title match.

Oh, and I'm all in favor of turning Jarrett heel.

Well...if we think back to the buildup for the Raven/JJ match...

the two weeks BEFORE that week had the AWESOME 4 team X match (that got down to XXX vs. Lynn and Red) and the next week had the actual XXX vs. Lynn Red tag title match. I would rather have seen those weeks than the JJ/Raven week just because each week had a match that was better.

Build to a big match at least a 4 weeks in advance. All the while, continue providing good matches on the undercard, with one "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS GOOD" match every few weeks or so. Continue to give the fans what they want to see, and they will hand over their money.

Hopefully they put Raven back in the title run.

When I first read about the "put the focus on 1 show", I thought right away about how the world title is only defended about once a month. If they have one major feud booked up to that one show, then that is fine, but during the build up of it, have the title be defended at least once, and let the X-Divison take the rest.

I like the idea of using three or four weeks to build up to one big World Title match. During the 3-4 weeks you could have the X title defended in the main event time slot. The main eventers could have promo time or what not before the X title match. That way, the wrestling is still put above all else, yet the NWA World Title will be a focal point as well. Then, when the NWA title defense does happen, people will want to see it too. If built properly of course.

What do you do for the other hour and thirty minutes during the 3-4 weeks though? I mean, you have the tag divisions and the factions. However, you have to have a great match to start the show off. Perhaps a tag title match featuring stars like Christopher Daniels, Low Ki & Jerry Lynn could curtain jerk? How long would that last though?

Well, they also have the rest of the United States to get indy talent to give some TV time.
