Raw Rating Goes Back Down The Crapper

Recommended Posts

Guest BoboBrazil

After scoring a 4.4 cable rating last week, this week's edition of Raw dropped back down to recent levels and scored a 3.6 cable rating, with a 5.3 share, off of hours of 3.5 and 3.8. Last week's number was up almost a full point from the 5/5 show, which did a 3.5. I expected that the audience would drop this week since I attributed much of last week's increase to Goldberg's first television match for WWE, but dropping 8/10 of a point is pretty steep, especially on the day after a PPV when the number often rises.

....*Sighs*

Poor Ric and Jericho...and Xstain...

Since Nash only had TWO segments and Goldberg ONE...That was the reason for low ratings!

Seriously! Put Goldberg on the opening segment...Set up his weekly squash...CLEARLY inform the fans that goldberg will be wrestling at 9:58-10:02...

It takes time to build new stars...plus...the WAR

It's not above 4 or under 2--so it matters not.

It was ALL post-PPV hype, thank God.

And will get worse. Just watch it sink ever quickly towards the 2.0 range as the hype for Shit In A Cell cranks up a gear.

Since they already got Goldberg hyped for a match/Segment a week in advance...maybe those goldberg fans saunter back over...

I think last week was just a mirage, a screw-up at Neilsen, or whatever. It never really happened. 3's are where the WWE are destined to be until the 2's come knocking.

Hmmm, Hurricane was one of the guys involved in the highest ratings segment last week. No Hurricane this week......

Helms = ratings

From what I hear, Raw was actually interesting this week with Austin being funny and the build to Flair/HHH being very well set up. The funny thing is, I read last week's recap, and Raw was terrible, but it sparked a pretty decent rating.

People have been saying that since the Invasion and it hasn't happened yet, so I wouldn't hold my breath. It seems like the core WWE audience brings in at the very least a 3.3 rating.

No, Goldberg put them in the 4's.

I'm not saying he's the answer to the WWE's problems, but unlike other short term quick fixes, he is impacting for the positive.

Deal with it.

Realistically, won't this week's show quality be reflected in next week's ratings?

I mean, if this RAW was above average, then it should attract viewers to next week's show by word-of-mouth.

Then why weren't ratings at the same level (or better) this week? Wouldn't people want to see who tried to run him over?

Even I could've gave a shit about that angle. Not only had we seen it done before, but last week it was basicly nothing more than a side thought.

I expect a good chunk of the core audience to be leaving by fall. 2._ here we come.

It was either Austin as GM or Goldberg that did it for the fans. Add that to the fact that May is the highest rated sweeps month the WWE has and usually has an odd spike or two that isn't consistent with the rest, and you get what you got last week.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about all the 4's that RAW has been popping since Goldberg showed up. Too bad that streak was finally ended this week, but I'm sure next week we'll go right back up to the 4's, hell, maybe even into the 5's, after all, Goldberg is here and he is 'impacting'.

Dealt with.

Goldberg could've done something and effected the WWE - but it would have taken a *really* good storyline to have made it work. The WWE didn't and hasn't come close to delivering on that - so it's back to square one with Goldie... which makes me question the reason why they brought him in in the first place if they were just going to do this with him... I mean seriously, they had 2 years to come up with a storyline for him for fucks sake.

I was about to say that myself, bravesfan. Seriously, most ratings spikes come from word of mouth from the previous show, while most major drops come from people who saw last week's show and went "Screw this garbage."

I think this proves last week's rating was some bizarre abberation since it's settled back down into its usual territory. Probably a show that bout five Nielson viewers got cancelled or something and caused them to go to RAW :P

I think its a few things...

1) I think Goldberg/Christian was something people wanted to see, and Goldberg wasn't even on the PPV. He was bumped to second fiddle to HHH/Nash.

2) HHH/Nash is a match no one wanted to see once, and it is the focus a second time.

3) Austin/Bischoff had been beaten to death in only a few weeks. Its EVERY FREAKING SEGMENT almost.

4) PPV blew big chunks and led to you thinking monday would feature MORE hhh/nash and new champion christian because Booker T was squashed once again. Oh, RVD got tossed out in 2 seconds too.

I don’t understand. They had a White Boy challenge with an “ESTABLISHED” White Boy that according to JR is very popular with the fans.

On a more serious note, I think they should have has Goldberg make some sort of an appearance in the first hour and a half of Raw.

Once again proves that then American public loves crap! Last week's Raw was the typical suckfest but it did a decent rating and now we actually a pretty entertaining Raw with a main even that was built very well and the rating drops almost a full point.

I bet the Kenny Smith fishing show got better ratings.

Nobody likes to watch a person suffer a hangover on camera, poor Bishoff. Forget the wrestling just make Raw the 2 Hour Austin Reality Show. It would get 5.0 ratings!
