Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 21, 2003 ESPN2 tonight is broadcasting the Yankees-Red Sox game. Interesting game, for a few reasons.... -Winner takes the lead in the standings -ESPN's Legends of Broadcasting series begins, as Curt Gowdy will call the game -Roger Clemens is seeking win #299 Unfortunately, the game will probably get blacked out, leaving me with the YES Netowrk broadcast (grrr....). Still, should be a good game.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 21, 2003 If Rog was going for #300, he wouldn't be pitching tonight, I'll bet you anything on that. There will be the usual boobirds but I think the crowd (well, the ones that haven't visited the Cask N' Flagon beforehand) should be respectful, since this is probably his last season and all. Should be a good game too (the first two have been decent). It's nice to know that the Yankees' bullpen is just as poor as the Sox.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Why wouldn't Clem be pitching tonight if he were going for 300? It would be apropos, no? Either way, if he wins tonight, his next start would be against the Red Sox at home. I've GOT to see if I can get some tix. Dames
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted May 21, 2003 We can't get it in Cincy either. They are showing the reds-braves on ESPN2 instead.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Too bad Berman has to be on. Gowdy at 85 is 100 times better than Berman.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I'll be flipping. Sox v. Yanks on ESPN2 and Sens v. Devils on ESPN.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Why wouldn't Clem be pitching tonight if he were going for 300? It would be apropos, no? Let's see: - Pitching on the road against a fairly potent offensive team in front of the most hostile crowd imaginable vs. - Pitching at home in front of a happy, positve crowd against a cupcake team (the Blue Jays, I believe is their next series) Which one has the most pressure? Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 21, 2003 It was set for Clemens to go for number 300 tonight. He lost to Texas on Friday, so it will have to wait.

I think it would be more memorable if he won his 300th win against Boston, especially since he spent most of his career there. Why do you think he'd be facing the Blue Jays? According to the rotation, if he wins tonight, he faces the Sox on Memorial Day at the Stadium, which would be GREAT. Dames
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 21, 2003 You asked why wouldn't he pitch if he already had #299 and could get #300 tonight.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Steinbrenner wanted 300 in NYC ($), Clemens wanted it in NYC (he's a pussy), Torre wanted Clemems to take his regular turn (he's a man).
The Dames 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2003 You asked why wouldn't he pitch if he already had #299 and could get #300 tonight. No, I said that if he WAS going for 300, he'd be going tonight and you said no, so I asked why. Dames
Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I wouldn't want to pitch against the Blue Jays right now. They are HOT and have the best offence in baseball.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted May 21, 2003 You asked why wouldn't he pitch if he already had #299 and could get #300 tonight. No, I said that if he WAS going for 300, he'd be going tonight and you said no, so I asked why. Dames That's what he said Dames. And PK is right. Roger would not have pitched here tonight is he was goign for 300, unless his mother wasn't sick and could coem to Boston to watch him. He's kind of a pussy when it comes to big games. He's a kook. He tends to get over-excitecd and sucks as a result. Facing teh Red Sox (who he played for for 13 years or so) at Fenway and going for the biggest win of his life with a crowd that isn't exactly friendly to him wouldn;t bode to well for him hystorically speaking. He got his ass kicked here in the 99 ALCS, and he got lit up here last year. Steinbrenner hates the Sox VP and wouldn't want Boston to get the moment. He also wanted a guarenteed sell out against TO, which the Yanks would be unlikely to get at this time of the year for a regular game against a 3rd place team. Joe Torre wanted to keep his rotation in tact and nto fuck with everbody to accomodate Roger's lack of balls and George's wallet. I wouldn't want to pitch against the Blue Jays right now. They are HOT and have the best offence in baseball Yeah, by 6 runs over Boston.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 21, 2003 EDIT: Some Guy already pointed out what I wanted to say, so I'll just reiterate that George Steinbrenner is the Anti-Christ. Thank you.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 21, 2003 How does anyone know Clemens wouldn't of pitched if he was going for 300 tonight.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted May 21, 2003 He said he didn't want to. George said he didn't want him to. Torre said he wanted him to. This was a huge story here in Bsoton this week. Furthermore he booked himself to do an autograph sesion today for charity, I doubt he'd have done that if he planned on going for 300 in Boston.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I actually think he would do it, since even if he loses, there are other chances, but I don't think Lord Steinbrenner wants to pass up all those bucks, so he'll order Torre to pass him over and wait until they are back at the Stadium. EDIT: Dammit SG!!
Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 22, 2003 I wouldn't want to pitch against the Blue Jays right now. They are HOT and have the best offence in baseball. There you go. The Blue Jays are certainly not a "cupcake team," and could give Clemens quite a drubbing if he didn't have his A-game. Toronto has yet to put it all together, but their offense is doing *very* well right now, and I'm sure they'd love to stick it to Clemens as he looks for #300. Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 23, 2003 Yup. Ask Andy Pettite how much of a cupcake team the Jays are.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 23, 2003 <covering my ass> I MEANT that since the Blue Jays offense is so sweet right now, they are a cupcake team, which is also sweet</covering my ass>
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 23, 2003 (edited) Yup. Ask Andy Pettite how much of a cupcake team the Jays are. Looking at Andy Pettite's numbers this year and he'll tell you alot of teams aren't cupcakes. After the Boston game New York goes on a 9 game road trip. If he doesn't win Monday, than it's likely he'll get it on the road. Edited May 23, 2003 by Vern Gagne

Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 23, 2003 (edited) I hope he goes Monday, and I hope he faces Pedro who is expected to go after dealing with his groin injury). THAT will be a really good matchup. Edited May 23, 2003 by Kingpk
