Question for y'all

Recommended Posts

Guest Lil Naitch

I have a question, and since I don't know where to put this, I'll put it here.

I just saw on ebay somebodies selling their entire DVD collection for around $900 (if you buy it now).

I'm in the process of converting my VHS collection to DVD's.

Do you think people would be interested in buyin my entire VHS collection in one bulk buy? I'm thinking of $900, but do you think it would sell?

How do convert VHS movies to DVD? I know I'd save a lot of shelf space if my meager wrestling tape collection was converted.

Also....anyone know how to get past the annoying copyright bullshit on VHS tapes? I recently started an Edward Norton tape and was able to get Primal Fear onto it, since that was in '96, plus the tape is a rental. What's weird is I was able to record Death To Smoochy onto my tape with no problems whatsoever. Odd, considering Keeping the Faith wouldn't let me copy worth shit. So, yeah, back to the original copyright question: How do you get past it?

Depending on how many tapes are in your entire bulk collection.

I work at a used book/music/movie store. And the average price of a used video now is $5...but if you're going bulk you'd have to slash that big time.

ANd if you wanna pass copygaurd you need a video clarifier. You can get them at Best Buy or Circut City...they start at probably $40.

Clarification: I'm buying the movies I currently have on VHS on DVD now, because I really don't like VHS unless I record something. I guess should have said I'm REPLACING the movies I have on VHS with their DVD counterparts.

And I don't know how to get past the copyright thing. Last tape I tried ot copy was Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles 3, and it didn't work. And that was a LOOOOOOOOONG time ago.

Hey DVD Recorders are down to $500 now. Hopefully soon they'll go lower.

DVD burners for computers are around $300

You won't get much for your VHS tapes. You can offer it as an entire collection, but you'd probably get more interest if they were broken down into lots. Maybe break them down into genre based lots.

People on Ebay will buy anything you tell them to buy. But, you might make more money selling them seperate. The best thing to do is to search ebay to find out what videos other people have sold in bulk and how much they went for.

To get past the copyguard, you'll need something along the lines of a Sima Copymaster, which will get right around it. I got one for Christmas and have been meaning to do some copying, but still need to go and replace a second VCR. I have a Go-Video Dual Deck VCR, which will allows you to copy most tapes, but it's an older model, as the newer ones won't even dub a commercial tape at all.

As for your VHS collection, few tapes are worth more than a couple bucks these days, unless it's something rare. I second the idea of going over to eBay to see what they're going for before you decide what to do with them.

Yeah but I want one I can hook up to my TV and use to record like a VCR and those are still in the $500 range.
