Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted May 27, 2003 right...millions of fans stopped tuning in, not because they wanted to cheer austin, but because they wanted to cheer triple h that badly. In my opinion, Austin is dogshit who was in the right place in the right time and isn't worth a tenth of the money he drew, but you're free to disagree. Actually Austin vs HHH with Austin heel and HHH face would have drawn if only because: 1. HHH was drawing face heat during the second half of 2000 do to the love triangle storyline and with the proper catylist (say Austin forcing Vince to disown HHH as a condition of Austin turning bad and finally aligning himself with Vince and delivering a series of beatdowns with the help of Kurt Angle to try and cripple HHH) would have worked to make the fans see HHH as a top level face and 2. Vince and Steph would have made sure to keep both looking strong during the feud rather than letting Austin or HHH treating the other like their bitch. Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted May 27, 2003 Actually Austin vs HHH with Austin heel and HHH face would have drawn if only because: This is pretty much what I thought. But godthedog seems to think that MILLIONS left because people still wanted to cheer Austin and people love Austin that much. I have to call bullshit on that thinking. Besides, buyrates didn't really die until they bungled the Invasion and they threw a hissy fit at DirecTV and left, breaking the PPV Buying Habit for customers of one ofthe largest carriers in North America. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 27, 2003 The fans didn't want to boo Austin - however, if Austin kept on doing the Stone Cold Schtick, they would have soon enough. The Austin heel turn was a huge, needless, blow to the WWE that set off a chain of events that still go on today.
Guest BobbyWhioux Report post Posted May 27, 2003 I'm assuming that Orton is still too injured to wrestle regularly (going by the reports that came out when he was hurt) and, as such, will be in a non-wrestler / managerial role flanking HHH. Which, with Flair swerving Faster Than A Speeding Russo Angle back to heel manager of HHH, is rather redundant, as Flair is a manager at this point and not a wrestler [full time, anyway] anymore. Oversaturation, Glut, NWO in 98 & 99, et cetera et cetera. If Orton was going to come back to be HHH's corner man, I don't see why Flair is put back there too. If Flair was going to turn right back to HHH's side, I don't see why an injured Orton needs to be out there instead of, you know, recouperating. Unless, of course, the motivation is to put a leash on both of them and, in Orton's case, stunt character growth (which is bad for his future; sure, some of you may say "so what, he's green as hell in the ring." Well yeah, sure he is now, but he's going to get better. Someday. And he should be allowed a chance to still have some credibility and heat-drawing potential when he's veteran enough to actually do something with it, and not end up being like Mike Sharpe or Barry Horowitz or Insert Random Armstrong Brother Here). Why not have Triple H vs Ric Flair on PPV? It got a good reaction, it'd probably draw some money in one of the "dead months" in between really BIG title matches [i.e. a good productive feud to keep HHH busy while they set up their big bucks match with Bill Goldberg]. Sure, a lot of us would grumble about HHH winning *YET AGAIN* and Flair being a jobber *YET AGAIN* but then they've decided to regard us "smart" marks with contempt anyway, so so what? Especially if they are minimizing Nash's camera time because they are AFRAID of him getting an "improper" fan reaction and/or his in ring work. What, Nathan Jones and Scott Steiner weren't enough, they gotta make the same mistake in groups of three? They're going to go with Nash until he has another Shockmaster Moment in the middle of the ring? Why not turn Michaels if they had to turn one? It's not like HBK bombs as a heel. Heck, he's one of the great ones in recent WWF/E history; I sure as hell know I like booing him, so much so I boo him when he's face But it's at the point where I expect them to do the illogical thing, so, whatever, there ya go.
